- We caught up with bay area rapper Adrian Marcel on Sway in the Morning and got to talking about his new music, Warriors’ championship and more. In 2014, the Oakland artist broke out with hit single “2 AM” and has followed it up with a number of mixtapes, establishing himself a growing fanbase. A couple months back, Marcel released his debut project GMFU (Got Me F**** Up). The album’s single “MOBBIN” features Too $hort, Lil Boosie and M-City Jr., but for the most part it’s Marcel spitting his truth.

SEE! I knew it. I need to stop second-guessing my intuition because I'm typically right about these things..... Pero anyway, this is what happens when you pump a young new artist's head up prematurely. This boy is the perfect example of way too much expectation and hype. When he first came out, Lenard (Charlamange) and them were pumpin' his head up claiming that he was just too dope and yadda yadda yadda. I said *ok, well let me just go see for myself.* I was like *dang, that's it?* Another Chris Brown wannabe just w/ better vocals, obviously. I understand that standards have dropped and singing (in it's traditional form) is a lost art. I get it. Unfortunately, Adrian just has a voice that sings. No character. Nothing behind it. He can sing, pero he ain't singin' about nothin'. I don't feel it. Call it a generational thing, whatever. He's only 4 years younger than me. Most of his songs have that annoying trap beat w/ the senseless Chris Brown lyrics. Adrian, I guess you see that being "cute" and light-skinned isn't all it's cracked up to be. For _urban_ (black) men in yo' age range, you will indeed be marketed as a Chris Brown wannabe. He is the prototype and it is what it is. There are roughly 15 other brothas waiting for that position. They've been trying far longer than you've been: Trey Songz, Mario, Lloyd, Jeremih, Sammie, Bryson Tiller, etcetera. See, these labels done pumped yo' head up and left you w/ hella broken promises. That's the part that really sucks. The run-around of it all. Bottom line, if you don't have a record label behind you that can push, promote and market you to the masses.....good luck on that independent grind. It's heavy heavy load and road.....

Oh, so because you like it then that means my professional opinions are false? I gotcha. There are just way too many young brothas out there that are doing what Adrian's doing. They're always gonna market him as a Chris Brown wannabe and he knows it. His music and singing are mediocre. It's not what you know, it's who you know. Hopefully he can maintain in this independent market because mainstream's looking pretty grim. I know he's tired of the broken promises and run around.....
LaChele it's not about me liking it, you're saying that most of his music are trap beats with senseless lyrics when that's not the case a lot of his music was produced and cowritten by Raphael saadiq. That was the only thing I felt like I needed to correct you about because most of your opinion I agreed with besides your opinion on his okay singing voice. I was the opening dj at one of his concerts the boy has pipes...
