One of my all-time favorite TV shows - I used to run home to watch it. The corner drug store sold packets of Dark Shadows trading cards (with bubble gum) and I used to collect the trading cards.
I used to run home from jr. high to watch this. It came on at 4pm, got out of school at 3:30. I was not a track star, but made it just before the music started.
I was so delighted to find Dark Shadows. what memories it brings back. I was quit a bit older then my young foster sister, who was in middle school. When I was back home I can still see her in my minds eye, racing home from school, with her books under her arm, hair flying in the wind, cheeks flushed, but for one reason, to get home in time to watch dark shadows. Thanks for the memories.
I've heard so many stories about people running home from school as fast as they possibly could, just to watch the show. My mom was already married and had three kids when she started watching this. Then I was born in 1968 and named Josette.
I watched this as a child, with my great grandmother, in the 60s. I started with episode one on January 5th, 2016, and completed the final episode, #1245, on November 19th, 2016. Now I will begin again from episode 1. Love the series!
To Dark Shadows on its Fiftieth Birthday...Thank you for entertaining me, my generation, those that came after me through reruns, and to all the actors, alive and deceased, who performed their roles magnificently for the four and a half years that the show was on ABC Television. It was worth coming home from school for. And to the late Dan Curtis...Thank you for creating the series. May you R.I.P.
I think it would be very soothing to have the background music from Dark Shadows playing in my day to day life. Probably because my mom used to watch it when I was a toddler and it's one of my earliest memories.
Thanks for posting this. The library's collection (and disc one I might add) starts at episode 200 :-/ I loved the 1991 show so I am eager to watch the original.
Starting watching this series I found by search true blood series and very lucky 🍀 I found this Amazing dark shadows love it absolutely 😍 thank you❤👍❤️👍👌
Damn this is a strong pilot. It just pulls you in right away. Hard to believe it wasn't originally intended to go the horror and supernatural route, this first episode is just dripping with so much gothic atmosphere and mystery. They must have at least been toying with the idea of dipping into the macabre. Anyway, this episode, and the few that immediately follow, really hold up today... 50 years later.
What a change in the format of the show. Even the original background music was so typical soap opera soft rather than the eerie Gothic stuff that came later. Dark Shadows was originally intended for housewives with a taste for Jane Austen type intrigue, but the show was not taking off. That is when the producers opted for a school kid audience and a horror-supernatural theme.
I'm a Dark Shadows neophyte but it's easy to see how this is the child of The Haunting, Psycho, Disneyland's Haunted Mansion, Spider Baby, Munsters and Addams Family and an influence on generation after generation of television, film, and video games creators, writers, directors, and producers -- Maniac Mansion, many of Stephen King's works such as The Shining (Maine native), the ornate and intricate qualities of the mansions and estates in the Resident Evil franchise, David Lynch and Mark Frost's Twin Peaks -- Carolyn Stoddard is like Laura Palmer when she visits the biker bars and causes people to get into fights -- and later works by the creator of Dark Shadows, Dan Curtis, particularly Night Stalker with his character Kolchak were predecessors to Chris Carter's X-Files! I had avoided Dark Shadows for so many years because of it being a soap opera, but it is truly a missing link for me in the maze of mansion/large estate mystery thrillers.
Many of the videos on the channel are eventually going to be out of synch. Here is an alternative site :watchseries.lt/serie/Dark_Shadows_(1966) The link 'MovPod' via watchseries online Dark Shadows has most of all the beginning videos Episodes 1-107. I thought I would post this to avoid frustration. P.S. Thanks, Jacqueline Wilson for posting these your time and thought is appreciated.
Thank u 4 posting this episode and the other episodes as well. I've been DYING to find these episodes ever since I heard about it. Do u, by any chance, have the version from the 80's/90's?
thanks for posting the entire series-but I'm having a serios mandella effect because the storyline is completely different-for instance Joe Haskell is dating Maggie in the 'other' version and that's just the beginning-unless they taped two different versions at the same time-oh and David is not a disturbed kid but is only lonely for his mother and nice to everyone-very strange
There WERE two versions, as I remember, with the same actors in two different timelines. I haven't watched these yet, fthat's from memory...someone correct me if I'm wrong.

As a kid, I imagined this was how most of Salinger's non-Catcher in the Rye works would be like if they existed in The Twilight Zone.
B. Henderson ha ha
Thanks for uploading this. I've always been fascinated by the pre-Barnabas episodes.
"Hey! That's my slip you're packing!" Back when girls and women had to wear slips with some of their skirts/dresses.

It took less than 13 minutes and I'm sucked back in! LOL
13 seconds for me
First time watching the tv series
After the first installment, the show rarely had more than five speaking roles in each episode.
The waitress at the diner offers up pie to everyone, episode 1 and episode 3 so far, just like Twin Peaks lol -- damn good coffee... damn good pie!

I would like to know how someone comes into posessing these episodes?
I am just curious.
Josef Venport what do you mean? Go to eBay and buy the DVD they are everywhere.
I did not think you could buy these unedited versions with the conversations behind the clapper footage.
why does no one have episode 131 posted?
I noticed that in the credits it lists a Robert Costello as the producer. Does he have any relation to Lou Costello?
+Jean McGee Doubtful. Costello is a common last name. (It is actually Irish, though Lou Costello was Italian).
I don't think so. Lou's birth name is Cristillo.
Diana Gruver I was unaware! Thanks for sharing!
Is that Conrad Bain working in the hotel?
Yes
+Moosetta In a much later episode, he would be killed by the werewolf.
WOULD BE NICE IF YU WOULDUNLOCK ALL EPISODES. ITS BULL TO BLOK SOMEAND NOT ALL
n
We were NOT allowed to watch this : )
