Pink Floyd had a 4 album run that cemented them as the God's of psychedelic rock. From DSOTM to Wish you were here, Animals and finally The Wall. Everything from start to finish of those albums is a masterpiece.
FYI - they had to change the time signature for the solo because Gilmour had difficulty cultivating a solid solo in 7:4 time... (some say 5:4 then 2:2 repeat)
Lex is a maternal music guide, she always ‘gets’ the music and leads Brads thought process down the right rabbit hole, whilst loving the music herself. Keep rocking’ guys!
The production of this album changed the way that music is prouduced forever. This song in particular is so technically done it is mind-blowing. First off it's in 7/4 time - which is rarely done and incredibly difficult (aka pain in the ass). This is also before sampling, so all the noises at the beginning and even the gentleman speaking at the end (who just happens to be the janitor telling a story about his wife) were all done in real-time at the studio. Real people dropped coins and worked cash registers rythymically to get the effect. Another great song on the album has a bunch of alarm clocks going off at the same time - and all of those clocks were actual clocks in the studio that they'd set to go off simultaneously. If you ever ever consider listening to the entire album at once (43 min) I think many of us would listen and watch - it will change your life 🥰
@@Fakename70 I think rick wright explains the technique they used to make the clock sample in a doco, it was done on some sort of synth and took an eternity, he scoffs at the old tech they had to use
That album must have been so much fun to make! Creativity and ideas and great music and synchroniciy just flowing! The story behind the vocals on The Great Gig in the Sky is just one of many incredible things that went down making Dark Side of the Moon.
A lot of songs have beat switches, but usually the time signature remains similar and just change percussion and flow. This song literally changes time for the solo, from seven beat measures to four, then back for the lyrics at the end. Difficult and underrated expert switch without losing the groove of the overall composition. And it ROCKS!! ❤🎸🔥

The guitar solo is actually played on 2 different guitars. The first two parts are played on David's iconic Stratocaster, while the last part is played on a custom Lewis guitar with extra frets which allows David to just belt out incredibly high notes.
The sound effects at the start was Roger Waters in his back yard, throwing coins into a metal mixing bowl, tore paper, cash register ding, coins etc, 7 sounds total all recorded. They took those 7 pieces of recorded tape and splices them all together into a loop, going thru a tape player. The other end of the tape was pulled tight and wrapped around a mic stand. 7 sounds made for a crazy 7/8 time signature so dancing to this was a tough groove!
Pink Floyd was/is a great show to see, my first concert was Pink Floyd for the Division Bell tour in 1994 on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames. It is still one of the most memorable experiences of my life.
This takes me back. My mom had this album and this was my favorite song on that album. I was only about 5 or 6 when I started listening to this back in 1975 or 1976.
I love the way your expressions change as the song progresses. Brad, you absolutely lit up at the beginning when the "created beats" were playing with the cash machines. Then during the instrumental section (sax solo and then guitar solo) Lex was absolutely feeling it. You mentioned it sounded like the song cut off abruptly. This song is from "Dark Side of the Moon," which should really be played through in its entirety, as every song bleeds and blends from one song into the next, and the end of the album mirrors the beginning, so it could really be played on a continuous loop and the music would never stop. The song "Time" that Brad mentioned is on that same album, and the ticking clocks actually fade in from the fading out of the previous song, and the piano at the end of "Time" leads into "Great Gig in the Sky." Lex--you are absolutely correct about the Pink Floyd concert experience. It is a treat for all of your senses. Your ears luxuriate in the powerful and yet subtle and intricate sounds of the music; your eyes are dazzled by the video, lasers, and pyrotechnic and practical effects; your body feels the powerful vibrations of the music as well as hearing it; and you smell what everyone around you is smoking during the show. I suppose if you are into edibles or if you are with a girl that is wearing flavored lip gloss, you could add taste to those sensations as well! You've already listened to the album version of "Comfortably Numb;" to get a sense of what the concert is like, I would recommend the 1994 Pulse concert version of that song to see it performed live. Traditionally, that is the last song they play before any encores.
I got to see them at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse back in ‘94. One of those concert you’d never forget. Lots of lasers and flying pigs - the show wasn’t limited to the stage! Amazingly true to the studio sound. 🐖
I met David Gilmour in 1984 back stage at a concert in Hollywood Calif. He gave me a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know, and I know all the great ones.
I love your vibe! It's like paring up an engineer and a free spirit. Great match. Would love to see you react to JJ GREY. BRIGHTER DAYS, SHINING DOWN AND ON AND ON. HE HAS A ONE OF KIND VOICE!!! REALLY ENJOY YOUR CHANNEL
I’ve been waiting forever for another Pink Floyd song. Btw their album dark side of the moon, which the song money comes from, is the 4th most bought album of all time, not just in its genre. Pink Floyd is a very special band and all their songs sound so unique. If you do plan on listening to more Pink Floyd in the future I DEFINITELY recommend Shine On You Crazy Diamond. That song is out of this world. Definitely should have it in your reaction to-do list
That was a genuine sax you heard. You'll hear it again in Us and Them, from the same album. I went to a Pink Floyd concert back in...the early 90s, maybe '92 or '93? It was a great show and was held in an outdoor stadium and I'm guessing 50,000 people were there. They had speaker stacks set up all over the stadium so it was a true surround sound experience. They sounded so good, just like an album, very clear. And of course the big laser light show that went with it. There was no violence or threats of violence that I was aware of. I've been to many rock concerts and other live music and have never seen fights or felt threatened, so if such things happen I'd say it's an exception. Most people at rock or metal concerts are welcoming and tolerant of others since they tend to be marginalized or misunderstood themselves.
the 'Dark side of the Moon' album is best to hear , experience the entire album . one of their early works ' Echoes live at Pompeii ' is awesome. they performed it in ancient empty stadium .Pompeii was a city buried in ash when Mount Vesuvius erupted AD 79
For some reason this song NOW makes me think of Byron Allen. He was recently talking about buying a football team. I think it might be the Denver Broncos he is considering.
The voices speaking at the end as the song fades out are actually those of Paul and Linda McCartney as well as Wings guitarist Henry McCullough. How they got the voices was actually quite ingenious. Both bands were recording at Abbey Road studios. Roger Waters invited them to do the voices and sat down and interviewed each member with a series of questions on cards. He started off with easy questions to get the ball rolling. The responses you hear are answers to 2 specific questions: "when was the last time you were violent?" and "Where you in the right?"
@@maniacguitar I saw it on a series called Classic Albums featuring DSOTM. Roger Waters talked about that moment. If you can find that series and episode, you'll really enjoy it!
The TIME SONG beginning is clever, as it starts with the beating of a clock--the passing of time--and then overplays it with the beating of the human heart--the clock of life ticking down, and that is why the tempo of the song at the end gets very slow.
I'll say it first since others eventually will; It is mandatory to listen to this entire album from beginning to end. Maybe even check out the Wizard of Oz mix

The song "Time" that Brad mentioned is on that same album, and the ticking clocks actually fade in from the fading out of the previous song, and the piano at the end of "Time" leads into "Great Gig in the Sky."
Lex--you are absolutely correct about the Pink Floyd concert experience.
I recommend Pink Floyd's "Have a Cigar " . Has one of my favorite guitar solos from David Gilmour and a very bluesy sound.
I got to see them at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse back in ‘94. One of those concert you’d never forget. Lots of lasers and flying pigs - the show wasn’t limited to the stage! Amazingly true to the studio sound. 🐖
Lex, you are a national treasure. And, Brad, thanks for doing these videos with Lex ;-)
Yaaas!!! Brad actually found a groove!! 🤣 that intro had him! And the lyrics are so straight forward and easy to grasp 😝 I love when he loves it!!!
I have been to 4 pink Floyd concerts and I have seen a hell of a lot of concerts and Pink Floyd is by far the best live show I have ever seen.
I was growing up with this kind of music glad to younger folks digging it as much as I have for the past 50 yrs
Also good thing you didn’t pause in the middle of a David gilmour guitar solo. One of the biggest sins in the rock community, so good job
Finally more Pink Floyd! Great gig in the sky now please! PLEASE! Can't wait to see Brads reaction!
I love the bass guitar in this.
the 'Dark side of the Moon' album is best to hear , experience the entire album . one of their early works ' Echoes live at Pompeii ' is awesome. they performed it in ancient empty stadium .Pompeii was a city buried in ash when Mount Vesuvius erupted AD 79
For some reason this song NOW makes me think of Byron Allen. He was recently talking about buying a football team. I think it might be the Denver Broncos he is considering.
They should do a live review of the whole Dark Side of the Moon album!
yaaaaaaaaaaasssss
I’d definitely watch that!!!
Open minds and hearts is one key to happiness. Love your vibe.
“Young Lust” “learning to fly” “echoes live”
This is the music I grew up on in the 70s.
The sax Pink Floyd used was awesome.
They are one of the top bands of all time.
não tem música que se compare. Qualidade em tudo...
Wow I did not know that! That’s awesome :) thanks for sharing
@@maniacguitar I saw it on a series called Classic Albums featuring DSOTM. Roger Waters talked about that moment. If you can find that series and episode, you'll really enjoy it!
"I was thinkin more about the lemon" lmao I love you guys!
Love the shift from 7/8 time to 4/4 time when that fabulous guitar kicks in 🤗 !!!
I will never get enough of Lex describing how things make her feel or what they remind her of.
When I was at school in the late 70's my drama teacher used tracks from Dark Side of the Moon to inspire us in lessons. It worked....
The TIME SONG beginning is clever, as it starts with the beating of a clock--the passing of time--and then overplays it with the beating of the human heart--the clock of life ticking down, and that is why the tempo of the song at the end gets very slow.
You can thank Alan Parsons for the Clock intro to "Time", and also for Claire Torry's solo on "Great Gig in the Sky".
They already reacted to that track 3 weeks ago.
Arguably, the most amazing music concert EVER was Pink Floyd PULSE. Definitely a must watch.
I'll say it first since others eventually will; It is mandatory to listen to this entire album from beginning to end. Maybe even check out the Wizard of Oz mix
Thank you.
No..,.........Sauçerful & UmmaGumma and all nighters in London is Floyd.......
Many died........ Drugs.
Pink & Floyd were black bluesmen in 20's America. Floyd were a blues band..............nice they loved their influences...,.....,and simply grew beyond Syd..........fans will know.........xx
Watching you guys digging on Pink Floyd makes me happy.
B&L, Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon became one of the best-selling albums of all time. The album remained in the Billboard Top 200 album chart for 736 consecutive weeks!! (from 17 March 1973 to 16 July 1988).
This album HAS to be listened to start to finish to get the full vibe and experience. Nothing that came out around the same time could compare IMO.
"Only Leer I have owned is a truck topper!" Me too bro me too.
For your next Pink Floyd selection try Dogs. You'll want the lyrics for that one too.
I’m really enjoying your reactions to the songs I grew up with & still listen to today👍
Your onscreen chemistry is great & your beautiful smile & energy is contagious 😃
You are a lucky man 🤩
Keep up the good work 🌟
I’m a drummer from the Uk living in Spain 🇪🇸🌎💙
The teacher reads out the little boys poems in another brick in the wall video: It's this song !
A new car, caviar, four star daydream
Think I'll buy me a football team
Money, well, get back
I'm all right Jack, keep your hands off of my stack
Lex you are such a gem and one creative thinker, I agree, never change!!!
Lex is so weird but I end up totally understanding what she means, I love both of your views
reexperience these timeless classics from one of the most recognized and adored bands to ever play live. See them live under PULSE, Momentary Lapse Of Reason and Delicate Sound Of Thunder tours. The light shows and live performances are truly amazing. And yes that was saxophone.
So many great songs from these guys...."Time" next perhaps?
They have already reacted to it
@@amirhossein1382h they did? Thanks for the update..
Hearing how Roger Water recorded the opening is interesting.
*Have A Cigar*
man .. Lex looks at you all the time .. you can tell she loves you . You are a blessed guy ..
It was a Sax..
Most of the songs from the Dark Side of the Moon album flow in to the next one, which is why it sounded cut off.
Hey guys, if you wanna hear a great guitar solo that will make different sounds, you gotta listen to Van Halen - eruption guitar solo reaction. Lex will love it, you both will for that matter.
Lex, I was fortunate enough to see Pink Floyd live several times - Dark Side, Animals and the Pulse tours - their concerts are not shows, they are experiences unlike you'll ever have at any other band's concerts. They may not change your life but they will touch your soul as never before. RIP Rick Wright. Cheers....
If you want to see a jump in views and subs then you need to get on some Rage Againstthe machine asap!
Welcome to the party, you're late. They did a couple already, 2 & 3 months ago
