I like to use inserts that can be found on eBay when searching for MGGN H01 The work very well on my SC4 that is converted to cnc. I mainly do aluminum and brass, no idea how they would hold up in steel. They are dirt cheap and work very well for my applications.
I have not used the inserts you speak of but have used inserts for turning aluminium to turn free cutting steel. Work well in a lathe low on power, don't last that long but as you say they are so cheap it does not matter.
Thanks for that Nigel much appreciated 👍 and yes you did answer my question, now I have a better idea which one to get.
Cheers Ian
Glad I was able to help. Nigel
Excellant video as usual
Thanks Colin

I use ground MGEHR style ones, they are meant for cutting aluminium but they work well for brass and steel, but obv wear down a lot quicker.
Hi, thanks for your comment, I thought that was the code for the tool holder rather than the insert.
Yeah it is my bad the insert is MGMN 200-G AK10 and they fit in the MGEHR tool holders.@@smallcnclathes
@@Festivejelly I looked them up and what I found looked much like any other inert but polished rather than coated. Nigel
Just released another video where you get a mention. Nigel
