Im new and trying to get into ‘metal’ more, these videos really helped! Its nice that you’re so jokey about it, it helps me feel more welcome to it. Keep up the great work!
Power metal is my favorite genre of metal up there with death metal. As far as power metal with growls Unleash the Archers is the best example of that and yes they do actually play D&D together.
I was at the Metal Hammer Fest in 1985 in Lorelei-St Goarshaven WGermany. One of the highlights was watching the members of Venom's Legions Deutschland and Slayer's Satanic Wehrmacht kick the living shit out of each other. That and seeing Metallica roll out Disposable Heroes.
One thing I would like to add about Sabaton, is that they tell everyones story. They sing about D-Day in Primo Victoria. They pay homage to war hero’s such as The Red Baron, and Sergeant York. They describe the horrors of war in songs like Great War and The Attack of The Dead Men.
The best clean singing in heavy metal belongs to symphonic and gothic metal, because of lyrical, sometimes operatic, mainly female, singing, in my opinion
Ive grown to be a fan of both, but when I was a teenager I was an asshole who would make jokes about Dave getting the boot. Metallica was my favorite band before I found death metal. If you break it down to brutality, unrelenting, and technicality, Megadeth Rust In Peace is the thrash metal champion. However song structure, feel, and production Master of Puppets is the winner. They both deserve thier place and thats why Slayer Reign In Blood becomes the greatest thrash album of all time. You cant pick Rust over Master and vice versa.
AJFA is metallicas most technically proficient. Maybe it drags on a bit but if you sit down and decide to sit down and listen to AJFA, it is mindblowing.
Boy oh boy, I didn't know about that specific Sepultura lyric lmao. But as a brazilian, I can explain it: "died" should be replaced by "killed" (obviously), but it doesn't denote the same idea. In portuguese, the verb "morto", conveys the idea of "become dead", which doesn't make it explicit that one was killed by an individual. That being said, Max (or whoever wrote the lyrics) probably thought the verb "died" existed in english and just tried to translate "morto" directly ;b EDIT: having watched episode 6, now I know why I'd never seen this lyric: it's not a Sepultura lyric lol, my explanation still stands though
Maybe it's coming up in a future episode (I'm binging these now because they're fucking awesome!), but I'm surprised that Pantera was practically overlooked in this episode. They completely changed the metal scene in the late 80's when thrash and glam were being pushed out by (ugh) grunge. Maybe there's a groove metal genre coming up - I hope so - Pantera deserves a huge mention. How have i missed this series for so long? Glad the algorithm suggested it. It's fantastic! EDIT:. please disregard. Just watched part 4. Right on!
“FUCKING SLAYER” was a school wide meme with me in high school it was such a great time for real metal was all I listened to at the time and them and Pantera were my TOP listens no matter what
I’ve always explained it as Thrash being the score for people beating the shit of other people, while Power is the score for people beating the shit of dragons and fantasy monsters
While I can enjoy other forms I and a primarily a power metal guy. Its fun and full of hype and I like being able to sing at work without sounding like Im choking.
I loved the contrast between the lead singers really nice voice, and the guitar players growls popping in intermittently. Do they not do that anymore? Haven’t heard shit from recently
"Cheesier than a Frenchman's bloodstream" just cemented your place with Goniloc as my metal memelords. Can't believe this channel is so small god damn.
Just in case someone might wanna take a look, here are some Japanese Power Metal and Trash Metal bands that are fucking awesome: Power: -Galneryus -Versailles Trash: -lynch. -Nocturnal Bloodlust (some tracks, they go between that and death metal) -the GazettE (same as above with more sub genres)
I'm usually more of a Thrash/Prog/Djent/Mathrock/Metalcore (yes.) Kinda guy but throw on some Powerwolf and I'm headbanging *I don't care about the street cred*
Regarding power metal using growls: On the albums The Frozen Tears of Angels and From Chaos to Eternity, Rhapsody vocalist Fabio Lione does a fair bit of growling. "A dragon condemned to abandon his world Could open his eyes, awake and reborn Led by the angels he could finally rise Enflaming the air of the Northern skies A battle too hard to be faced by a man A fight for who owns the magic of Earth A sacrifice needed to stop a new hell A mystical weapon, the forbidden spell"
Speed Metal has been revived with bands like Ranger, Riot City, Toxikull, Vulture, and Skull Fist, to name a few. They're pretty cool speed metal bands formed in the 21st century.
How to identify power metal: Do you feel good? Do you want to start a DnD campaign? Having the urge to ride a komodo dragon because it's the closest thing to an actual dragon? Then you are listening to power metal... And if you're feeling exceptionally patriotic for a country you are not a part of or for a faction that doesn't exist anymore? That's probably Sabaton
😂 the way you talked about Sabaton! I take national pride for songs like Winter War and White Death (about a Finnish war hero, Simo Häyhä). But then again, I'm Finnish. If anyone knows anything about us, we're thrilled. 😂

I’m so glad you mentioned Sabaton, they have to be my favorite band of all time and they don’t get appreciated as much as they should in my opinion and you did a perfect job of explaining them. Can’t wait to watch the rest of the parts.
I saw them open for Judas Priest last September. Double whammy of metal gods 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
@@konnorrockkonnoisseur4970 oh that would have been sick🤘🏻
Im new and trying to get into ‘metal’ more, these videos really helped! Its nice that you’re so jokey about it, it helps me feel more welcome to it. Keep up the great work!
powerwolf will always have a special place in my heart as the band that got me in to metal in the first place
5:47 “you were expected to know how to play your instrument”
Lars Ulrich: no I’m good
Sabaton never disappoints. It always gives me the chills
Unleash the Archers actually has guitars do harsh vocals too
Power metal is my favorite genre of metal up there with death metal. As far as power metal with growls Unleash the Archers is the best example of that and yes they do actually play D&D together.
that dave mustaine impersonation was crazily accurate lmaooo
I was at the Metal Hammer Fest in 1985 in Lorelei-St Goarshaven WGermany. One of the highlights was watching the members of Venom's Legions Deutschland and Slayer's Satanic Wehrmacht kick the living shit out of each other. That and seeing Metallica roll out Disposable Heroes.
you deserve more views,dude
One thing I would like to add about Sabaton, is that they tell everyones story. They sing about D-Day in Primo Victoria. They pay homage to war hero’s such as The Red Baron, and Sergeant York. They describe the horrors of war in songs like Great War and The Attack of The Dead Men.
The best clean singing in heavy metal belongs to symphonic and gothic metal, because of lyrical, sometimes operatic, mainly female, singing, in my opinion
23 seconds... that how long I lasted listening to Nails..
you beat me by 4 seconds
I think I got lucky with the first Nails song I got, I survived for about 31 seconds
Now back normal :D
I managed to get through a whole album. And I actually loved it.
I love Nails.

Warms my heart to see Dio get respect.
That being said, Max (or whoever wrote the lyrics) probably thought the verb "died" existed in english and just tried to translate "morto" directly ;b
EDIT: having watched episode 6, now I know why I'd never seen this lyric: it's not a Sepultura lyric lol, my explanation still stands though
Love this dude you made it so fun to watch with all the memes man great stuff!!!
Mechanix was the original version of “The Four Horsemen” which is mostly why Mustaine chose to play it but way faster just to as you say flex
Right on!
Theres a great Canadian power metal band called Unleash the Archers that uses a combination of death growls and clean vocals
I'm already well versed in all this, but I love videos like this. And you're doing a killer job.
One powermetal band that does you screams and growls is some songs in Rhapsody/of Fire. One of my apparently favorite power metal band
This channel is where I go for meme based metal genre explanations
Early Unleash the Archers has growls in it
I loved the contrast between the lead singers really nice voice, and the guitar players growls popping in intermittently. Do they not do that anymore? Haven’t heard shit from recently
"Cheesier than a Frenchman's bloodstream" just cemented your place with Goniloc as my metal memelords. Can't believe this channel is so small god damn.
thanks for warning againts powerviolence. I found my new favourite genre
Just in case someone might wanna take a look, here are some Japanese Power Metal and Trash Metal bands that are fucking awesome:
Power:
-Galneryus
-Versailles
Trash:
-lynch.
-Nocturnal Bloodlust (some tracks, they go between that and death metal)
-the GazettE (same as above with more sub genres)
Japanese metal bands have amazing instruments but I just couldn't get into its vocals
I love power metal and all the other stuff metal is all good
I'm usually more of a Thrash/Prog/Djent/Mathrock/Metalcore (yes.) Kinda guy but throw on some Powerwolf and I'm headbanging *I don't care about the street cred*
Lost Horizon is fucking incredible btw. Some of the best clean singing in metal.
Can’t believe Sabaton has brought me all the way to these kind of videos
Fuck I love Sabaton
Yus! That brief mention of powerwolf was what i was waitin for! The best boys for me!
thank you for putting a part of a metallica/slayer/anthrax/megadeth's cover of am i evil from the big 4 in sofia arena vasil levski

"The East Coast..."
*Explains and shows the West Coast*
Regarding power metal using growls: On the albums The Frozen Tears of Angels and From Chaos to Eternity, Rhapsody vocalist Fabio Lione does a fair bit of growling.
"A dragon condemned to abandon his world
Could open his eyes, awake and reborn
Led by the angels he could finally rise
Enflaming the air of the Northern skies
A battle too hard to be faced by a man
A fight for who owns the magic of Earth
A sacrifice needed to stop a new hell
A mystical weapon, the forbidden spell"
Ride the Lightning > Master of Puppets
Speed Metal has been revived with bands like Ranger, Riot City, Toxikull, Vulture, and Skull Fist, to name a few. They're pretty cool speed metal bands formed in the 21st century.
How to identify power metal:
Do you feel good? Do you want to start a DnD campaign? Having the urge to ride a komodo dragon because it's the closest thing to an actual dragon?
Then you are listening to power metal...
And if you're feeling exceptionally patriotic for a country you are not a part of or for a faction that doesn't exist anymore? That's probably Sabaton
11:28 that was a legit good dave impression
Beast in black from finland is one of my favourite power metal bands if they are power metal even, sounds like it. And the singer yannis(?) is so good
😂 the way you talked about Sabaton!
I take national pride for songs like Winter War and White Death (about a Finnish war hero, Simo Häyhä).
But then again, I'm Finnish. If anyone knows anything about us, we're thrilled. 😂
"Their songs are often so ridiculous that I don't get how anyone could be uplifted by them and..." JOIN THE SCOTTISH REVOLUTION, FREEDOM MUST BE WON BY BLOOD
*The West Coast of the US was America's Metal capitol in the 80's. Great video, m8
This series has it all, comedy, education and metal.
Gloryhammer is my favorite power metal band. I also like how they named their most popular song after their band name
Can’t forget unleash the archers 🤘🏻
dude i love this series. watched it like 4 times
mechanix was a song metallica put on the no life till leather demo, then megadeth re-did it and metallica reworked it to four horsemen. you can see videos of james singing mechanix.
and battle jackets came from punk, well so did thrash so eh fair enuff
Highly entertaining series. Thanks
Loving the tongue-in-cheeck style of presentation.
Sorry for my English: I LOVE POWE METAL! I started listening to metal because of bands like Blind Guardian, Rhapsody of Fire, Kamelot, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, and Sabaton, then came Symphonic like Nightwish, Epica, Within Temptation; then Melodeath like Children of Bodom and In Flames.
Now I love almost all kinds of metal genres, obviously some more than others. Oh, and now I also listen to so much music like some Girly Pop, hard rock, indie, alternative
