Shannon was good and consistent but I just don’t think he was that creative. Alan has way more licks and unique patterns

amazing! pardon my ignorance, but how do you manage to get any rebound out of the sticks holding them (what it seems to be) so far from the fulcrum? is that a special technique or grip?
As someone with a similar grip, it largely comes from interactions with alot of arm and wrist motions. Use of fingers and stick rebound dependant things are a little slowed up, but not entirely. Its basically taking and making the most out of the small amount of rebound that becomes present
It could be push pull. Sometimes it can be hard to tell the difference for me, as when I use either moeller or push pull itll look pretty much identical just depending on how I'm playing that day. Its when you "push" the stick head into the drum skin with relaxed wrist and fingers and let the stick rebound. Then you "pull" the stick back down into the drum head with your fingers, creating 2 strikes with one flika-dat-wrist!!

Pause 'er at 0:17 ; He's usin Roland brain & drums, which many say is the best brand out there making them right now. Alesis make some pretty comparable stuff at a lower price point. I haven't tried anything else. Mesh heads preferred over plastic, for better feel AND less noise for the fam. There are conversion kits out there to turn a plastic into mesh, if you'd need/want to upgrade down the line.
