Join Alice and Tommy T from How To Have Fun Cruising encounter massive Tarpons near Grand Cayman ISLAND! Alice actually jumps in and swims with a major school of Tarpons in the Cayman Islands! Tarpon are easily distinguished by their shiny, silver coloring and large scales. The mouth is large with the lower jaw projecting. The body is thinner than it is wide, and is slightly elongated. There is a long filament trailing from the base of the dorsal fin, although this is usually difficult to see. Tarpon can be quite large, growing up to 8 feet (2.4 m) in length. Tarpon are common throughout the Caribbean, including in the Cayman Islands. Large schools of tarpon have been known to inhabit one particular area of Grand Cayman for years, such as the schools found at Bonnie's Arch, Tarpon Alley, and now Alice's Devil Point, in Grand Cayman. We encountered massive Tarpon Snuba diving a shipwreck at Grand Cayman in 2015. So unnerving to see a fish bigger than yourself that are capable of swimming to speeds of 40mph! If one of those Tarpons hits you at that speed you're going to be in Davy Jones's locker! Enjoyed your video! I wish I had been doing RUclips back then to record our underwater enounter!
