I love that in all her recent public appearances Janet has been wearing her costume from Power of the Doctor! She's brilliant and was brilliant in the episode and I hope she will get to return to the main show again and/or a spin off, awesome to see she is very willing to do it so the ball's in your court RTD! Give us more Tegan!
Fantastic interview! Janet seems like a really interesting person and seeing her back in Power of The Doctor was one of my favourite parts! Hope we see her return in a new RTD spin off 🤞
Thanks for doing this. I started watching the classic Doctor Who series from the beginning last January and just watched Tegan’s departure episode yesterday (“Resurrection of the Daleks”). I’m amazed an event took place in Australia that featured Janet Fielding on the same day, no less. I appreciate Tegan’s boldness more now as an adult than I did as a child and she’s now one of my favorite companions. Though some Aussies might find her accent too strong, at least a native played the part (unlike the next companion, who was supposed to be an American, but was played by a Brit.)
Great interview Crispy. I'm showing my age here but the problem Australians had with Tegan's accent wasn't just cultural cringe, although there was a component of that from some people of course. However because the BBC pushed her to overdo the accent, it ended up not sounding quite right to us, we could tell it wasn't her natural voice. If she'd sounded more like those with naturally strong Australian accents it wouldn't have bothered people much at all. To put it in context back at that time in TV and movies from elsewhere, a character who was Australian was always played by a non-Australian (despite the clear availability of Australian actors they could have cast), never succeeding in performing the accent properly. Those accents would always sound awful, nothing like the real accent and really annoyed us. The TV or movie makers didn't care or realise as they weren't Australian. But it bugged us a lot. It's like they always wanted this crass (and totally inaccurate) accented stereotype of Australians rather than representing the real thing. So when Janet was cast in DW we thought "great, finally an Australian playing an Australian!" only to find the BBC wasn't content with her natural accent and made her over-egg it so it didn't ring true with us. It kind of felt almost like the equivalent of what had always been happening, deja-vu, and so we'd have loved to have asked the BBC "what's wrong with Janet's natural accent?" I suspect Janet may not have been aware of this, or the extent of the problem, as she was living/based in the UK, so just put it down to cultural cringe only.
Thank you for including my comment in the video! You are a great RUclipsr, and Janet Fielding is a great companion; and once again, thank you for including me! Question at 10:46!
No joke, everytime I hear something about Patrick Troughton, I just get goosebumps as him and I share the same birthday and I’m a fan, it’s just all makes sense 🤣
Janet was a great companion on the show I have quite a few of her serials on dvd cause I love the show in general her accent never has bothered me it is cool seeing a companion in the classic era that wasn’t the damsel in distress type that really started with tegan it was cool seeing clips from Castrovalva that I have on dvd and digitally
I vaguely remember tegan when I was a child. I dont think I really liked her much, a lot of arguing etc. But as an adult watching, I like it much more. Though they did seem to write her into a corner sadly, after she started so strongly.
Surprised she didn’t bash Matthew Waterhouse. She usually does. Also, she is far from the longest serving classic series companion. Jaime, Jo, and Sarah Jane were. She's 4th!!!!
I guess I was lucky enough to be all of 8 when Janet came in and so accents and positions in the world were not so important as journeys beyond our world. Because, of course, you don't perceive any politics at that age. Lucky us!
I was looking at travelling to the Gold Coast later this month (haven’t worked out dates yet, but probably fourth full week), so Janet’s live show could be a well-timed once-in-a-lifetime opportunity… 🤯 And I thought the main highlight would be lunch at MOS Burger (followed closely by the usual tourist places in SEQ, but as an _actual_ tourist this time ‘round)! 🍔 9:41 I cry at this scene _every freaking time…_ I mean it’s one of many moments in the ep that I start to tear up, but this is the first, which makes it the best. 🥲 - _”Happy crying… humany-wumany.”_ _-The Doctor_

She's SO good to the fans!
I love how Janet just casually adopted her look from the episode as her regular clothing.
She was also the Iron Woman to the potential 7th Doctors during the audition processs.
Not to mention she played the Mara in the Season 20 trailer
She's a really diverse actress 😁
Met Janet Fielding at Pebble Mill in 1983 really nice person. Nice video interview. Thank you.
Thanks for listening
Fantastic interview! Janet seems like a really interesting person and seeing her back in Power of The Doctor was one of my favourite parts! Hope we see her return in a new RTD spin off 🤞

Me : ha 😅😂🤣
Best bit hahaha
Wonderful interview Crispy
Thank you!
awww would love to go
Also a companion who disagreed with the Doctor!
Crispy, are you gonna be there on Sunday?
I always thought she was a New Zealander playing an Australian. Or are Qld accents that different from the rest of Australia?
Surprised she didn’t bash Matthew Waterhouse. She usually does. Also, she is far from the longest serving classic series companion. Jaime, Jo, and Sarah Jane were. She's 4th!!!!
👍👍👍👍

Crispy, did you know you had fanbois? :P I are one.
Was that a 'real' Dalek in the background ? Either that Dalek is really huge, or Janet is really small :)
I guess I was lucky enough to be all of 8 when Janet came in and so accents and positions in the world were not so important as journeys beyond our world. Because, of course, you don't perceive any politics at that age. Lucky us!
Nobody asked her if she was related to Noel Fielding! Probably just as well.
My question wasn’t asked ☹️
Is she wearing that costume all the time now in the hope that people forget the air hostess uniform?
Her two iconic looks!
One of the most annoying companions of Classic Who!
Good stuff, takes me back to the good old days !
I was looking at travelling to the Gold Coast later this month (haven’t worked out dates yet, but probably fourth full week), so Janet’s live show could be a well-timed once-in-a-lifetime opportunity… 🤯
