Some friends gave me a 101 in a table. It was her husband's grandmother's machine. Its in just flawless condition. I have all models of the Singers and ut is truly a classy and elegant machine. It reminds me of the 201. It sews like lightening.

I reached the original bulb with an LED because I kept burning myself on the light cover. Plus I like the brighter light of the LED bulb.

Whenever I need to run a machine after greasing or oiling, I make sure to remove the needle AND presser foot. Eliminates any chance that that the foot could accidentally drop down and impact the feed dogs. Better safe than sorry, especially with older machines.

A question... I was told by more than one repairperson that the gears on a # 101 and 201 have such tight tolerances that grease is not an acceptable lubricant. It was stated that an oil was to be utilized on the gears.

Darn, I have this machine and I was going to sell it but now I think I'll have to keep it. Do you like it as much as the 201? Mine is missing the needle slide plate. What do you like to sew on your 101?

I sew muumuu dresses, jeans, shirts, curtains, quilts, bags, skirts, hot pad holders, aprons, shorten pants for my hubby, sew cell phone pockets on store bought pants, darn socks, etc... I confess, I have a 201, and 101, and 301, 500, 503, 600E, a 15-8, 127, 128, 66, 99, and those are just my Singer sewing machines! I have Kenmores, a couple Bernina's, Elna Supermatic, a bunch of sergers, and a set of industrial sewing machines, lol!
