Bob Happy 4th of July. I just bought today my 101 and didn't knew what I bought until I did a quick research. I knew she was different than the others. Will keep watching videos to learn more. Anyway I won't be working on her until I finish several others.
That was just so satisfying to watch! I'm looking forward to seeing (and hearing) this butterfly emerge from her chrysalis. I don't think I've ever seen such schmooey gears - what a reunion it's going to be when they get back together and see each other after all these years. :-)
Bob, you had so much good advice and made me laugh too. Thankful that wasn’t my first machine! I can’t wait to see this all cleaned up! I think that is the dirtiest machine I have ever seen!
If only I had watched this video before attempting to restore the 101 that I found on the street. 😂 I'm working now on a 128, for which your video about disassembling the motor was also very helpful. Cheers from The Bronx.
101-2 was my first rebuild, ever. You're right about the fly wheel and those stupid plates. I did everything from rewiring the motor to totally disassembling the cabinet (it was in pieces anyway) I found real petroleum grease (bicycle bearing grease) for the motor and gears to match the original grease. I had to take out the light twice, the first time I wired it I used a stiffener but wrapped it with painters tape. The tape worked great but then I saw your trick with the shrink tubing I redid it. Everything looks great now, works great now, ( great stitch) and the cabinet is beautiful. BUT, I had to make the lower leg switch extension; I'm looking for an original. So,,,, if your friend that sent you that 101-2, and is getting it back in a bent wood case, wants to sell the leg switch off the cabinet I'm in the market for one. : ) tom
Turn the fans on! I can't work on my room much because of heat/ humidity. We don't want you uncomfortable! I knew there was a way to remove the top! I did but didn't...ohhhh me....🤪🤯🤩 The Shark Rocket is also wonderful! It is for car detailing and its small and powerful. I purchased from QVC on payment plan. Love it! The attachments are awesome and not I can detail my car and my machines 😆
Very much looking forward to the live session! The new equipment sounds pretty nifty :) There's a 101 for sale near me that I've had my eye on, they are very cool machines.
Don’t forget to show some of the bottom components of that 101 also. Seems like there is also a totally different means of controlling the stitch length that is handled unlike the other standard Singers.
I got a 101 recently and I can't believe how dirty it is - just like the machine you're working on! Could you explain a bit more about the clutch? Why would you need to disassemble it, and how can I tell if it is working correctly? Is this the part that sometimes has a broken spring inside? Thanks.
Look at page 18 of the adjuster's manual. It describes how if the clutch is slipping, the motor will run, but the sewing action (needle bar and feed movements) will not be engaged - kind of like being stuck in bobbin winding mode. I don't recommend taking the clutch apart unless it's slipping. It's not a "normal" maintenance job and can be a real pain in the posterior to do correctly. If you don't have the manual, I have it on my website here: bobsvsmservice.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Singer-101-Adjusters-Manual-Print-size.pdf
@@BobFowlerWorkshop Thanks Bob, I will check when I get that far, but I never do more than is needed. I'm not sure I even want to take the needlebar apart, I just rinsed it well with kerosene and it's moving fine. But boy, the schmoo in this machine was unbelievable!
That 101 sounds a lot like a 201-2. It also seems like Singer simplified many of the assemblies. Masterpieces of design, engineering and workmanship. Would you happen to know where the 201-2 was designed, USA, Britain, or Germany?
Loved it! I just got a 101 for my birthday and am so excited

Thank you so much for your instruction - it is gold - especially the lead wire cover and the balance wheel parts instruction!

Which size Wicks do you recommend for the 101 oil wicking system? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the video. It is definitely a cool machine. How does this compare to a 66?
Hey BOB still got that 101 base ,got your name on it.
Have you done a white rotary 75 series?

Thank you for the videos on the 101. It’s a great machine for sewing. Sorry you don’t like it.
Oh don't get me wrong, I have two 101's myself and love them, this one is a bio hazard is all... 🙂
Ah, so I'm not the only one with shipping chipping. Send me your address for the 66 chippie hippie.
