Thank you. I'm currently working my month's notice as I've quit my job and cut my hours to do something that has more value, more opportunities and good ethics. It's scary and not everyone is on board with me but I knew I could do it through reminding myself of what adds value and what doesn't. This was reassuring to hear so again, thank you!
To Steve, I am happy, that You have keept Your guitar. When I was throwing things out of my room, I was always asking myself "is that important to me?". You have already started to find important items to You. Keep going!
I’ve been teaching high school for ten years, and I am feeling the burn out 😞Trust me, never a boring moment with this job! But I have anxiety in the morning before I leave for work. I wish I knew what other career to go into. I love my kids but it is a hard profession. Also the cell phone usage in the last two years has gone way up. Last school year was the first year I’ve had kids watching Netflix on their phones. They are addicted. I’m waving my white flag 😭💔
Lo Marie, From retired teacher, switched from Junior High to 5th grade, never looked back. You are your own boss in the classroom, not so outside! Teachers 🎸 ROCK!! Embrace all the positives, enjoy the students- they live in a tech 🌎 world- always changing.😘
But what if you don't have a passion? I hate my job but I can't think of anything else I might enjoy doing for a living. A while back there was an episode on "Career" that touched on this. I wish there was more discussion in this topic 😔
Wow. The start of it: Most of our relationships are birthed from proximity or convenience. One of relationships just ended. Hearing this at this moment in my life is interesting.
What if you are stuck working with a negative angry person? I am an apprentice in the electrician union and I have no choice or say with who I work with. I am at the bottom of the food chain. How do you deal with that situation?
Pausing the video to comment: i can 100% can relate to the first part of the podcast so far. in the last almost 2 years i cut off some people that used to be some of my closest friends. I am realising that from their perspective, i am such a bitch (well..i'd prefer "teller of unpopular truths" tho :D) But...i don't see any progress in my old friends (2 in particular). We know each other since we were teens and now...hitting 30y is a different story. It's pretty normal to change...and it's actually necessary. So i felt presure when i did not follow their rules. It was like they (my friends) were too focused on me than on themselves. Duh? But now...i am okay, feeling good, trying to develop new skils in life and career, trying to do the best for me at this point. :)
I love The Minimalists but the comments from Ryan and Ken regarding burnout were very disappointing. Sounded like the worst of workplace managers from the 1990s early 2000s I came come across when dealing with fellow employees who were clearly suffering from a stress and/or anxiety based illness.
@@WOWster007 Everyone feels anxious from time to time but not everyone has anxiety in the sense of a disorder. Some people are more prone to anxiety-based disorders based on their genetic makeup, upbringing and other factors. I really don't think the point here is that people with anxiety-based disorders think they are 'special'. The contemporary Western lifestyle is unhealthy in many ways, including our relationship to material belongings, money, work, and other people too. Anxiety isn't a made-up ailment of the weak but a response to the extreme circumstances of the modern world, namely sensory and information overload and isolation that stems from a highly individualistic, materialistic, hyper-consumerist society.
@@WOWster007 Firstly I wasn't talking about myself but what I witnessed to fellow work colleagues. Yes everybody has anxieties but when it affects people's day to day functioning then this needs to be recognised if people have pressure, working too hard especially number of hours that leads to burnout. It is different from general stress, depression or anxiety.
I see The Minimalists, I click. Thanks for having my life changed. 10% at a time. :)

This content really fits with me right now. Like you know what you want to do but people doesn't see it as a tool for your growth.

Hi Mumin,
There IS a career which everyone is "destined" to do.
☺️
@@financewalk3839 thankfully, the new episode from The Minimalists is: How do I discover my passion?
It couldn't have come at a better time
neat content The Minimalists. I smashed the thumbs up on your video. Maintain up the high-quality work.
This is a good one. I may write a letter, if I find the time.

Good deeds 🙌💯
Hi! do you have a place where you list all the books you recommend to your followers?
It’s not what you know, but who you know.
It's not who you know, it's what you can do *with* who you know.
haha I live right next to Arlington heights, hey Darcy!
