I love me some opto compression in general. It sounds more musical to me. I also use the dynamics function on Saturn to add compression. I set it to the tempo of the track I am mixing/mastering. Internal sidechains can be magic. It can be used as to shape the tone of the master as well. Thank you for the video.
Thank you for making videos that include share your knowledge and skills. Most of videos in YT were difficult to understand or try but your videos are simple and have good visibility. It Really helped to me. Thank you :D💕💕
thank you a lot, made me more confident about my compression on master. The ONLY thing, these zooms in and out are too much in my opinion, but it doesn't really matter.
Knee is a really important contorl for compression in any track, even for drums. A too agressive knee can make the compression sound obvious and even distort the sound in an ugly way, this is why I never compress if the knee isn't at least 1 dB, even if it's for drums. This is also a reason why I preffer "digital" compressors, as most of them have a knee control.
@@Keroser1983 Btw, here's a small tip about it: My go-to knee value is always 6 dB, it seems that many digital compressors use it as "Medium Knee", it's like a good point for any kind of track.
These videos are a god damn blessing after countless videos of almost all the same content such as "use a compressor to get the glue" thanks holy fuck! :3 xoxo
Thanks for watching! A free mastered sample of your track is available - but keep in mind it's only a preview/sample, not the full track. SageAudio.com
Buying fab filter lol. These are some good lessons, like the lower freq filter is something I didn’t think about but was right in front of me. I use TDR Molotov
Thanks for watching Keroser! The result you get is a quarter note in milliseconds, so you can enter that value into your release or attack. If you want a quicker note, like an 1/8th divide by 2 - or a 1/16th divide by 4. SageAudio.com
If the mix is already heavily compressed than don't, but use it if you want to control dynamics or glue a mix together. Thanks for watching! SageAudio.com
Thanks for watching Jaro! 508.474ms is the value of a quarter note. You can entire this time into your compressor as the attack or release. You can also divide or multiply this number to get shorter or longer notes. SageAudio.com
Cool quick tips on compression. But I didn't understand: how do you use that attack/release 60000/BPM rule? Let's say 126BPM. Result is 476,19. What now?
Thanks for watching! Not a rule really just an equalization for finding in time values. If you need a super quick attack, divide the result by 16 or 32. SageAudio.com
Yep! A slower attack will allow more of the signal to pass through unaffected by the compressor - meaning less attenuation. Thanks for watching! SageAudio.com

It's funny: I remember back in the 90s, the consensus was to have longer release times on digital masters. But they have evolved a lot since then!

Man, dont forget that Molotov is an harmonic compressor. It introduces extra harmonics to the sound lol. For mastering be very careful with that!!
I'll sell it to you at a good price 😉
Thanks for watching Actosome! They make my favorite plugins to be honest, especially when showing concepts like in these videos.

What is the queue of the effects? Does the compressor come at the beginning or at the end? After saturation or before?
just try it out and listen to it.. personally I like to saturate after the compressor

Can you please make a video on using a multi-band compressor on the master bus. I don't get it how to make the kick and bass dynamic.

Wonderful as always gyus!!!! Could you please simply explain the 60000 / BPM formula in a video? What to do with the result after the divide etc?

Some says don’t use a compressor on masterbus. Is that true?
If the mix is already heavily compressed than don't, but use it if you want to control dynamics or glue a mix together.

So if the bpm is 118 and i do 60.000/118 = 508,474 What are the settings for attack and release?

Interested would be the ratio.
Thanks for watching! The ratio for which technique?
SageAudio.com
@@sageaudio For opto and mastering, like kinda go low but go down with the threadold or go like high and make the ratio lower :D
Cool quick tips on compression. But I didn't understand: how do you use that attack/release 60000/BPM rule? Let's say 126BPM. Result is 476,19. What now?
476 millisecond release, half it for the attack time
@@alphareaper8158 Isn't it too long? Attack would be 238ms. Most EDM kickdrums have 200-250ms length.
Thanks for watching! Not a rule really just an equalization for finding in time values. If you need a super quick attack, divide the result by 16 or 32.
