**UPDATE** Watch HERE ruclips.net/p/PL9jWq9VH9Kq0KFgJNagjTK_Ccyw_Fb5wM to see my opinion on this AMAZING band evolve over the course of an ENTIRE ALBUM Reaction!!!
THANK YOU. Thank you for distinguishing that. Exactly. They aren’t a copycat, yes, they wear their influences on their sleeve and yes, Josh sounds a bit like Plant, but you can absolutely tell the difference between the two. There were loads of artists that had this kind of sound back then, and the fact that they are trying to bring it back and succeeding should tell you something about the Natural talent these guys have. It’s a gift to be able to sound like this today, I mean, people complain about music today then when someone actually has the talent and the drive to commemorate the old stuff suddenly they’re rip offs? Led Zepplin isn’t making music anymore, and this band is clearly very obviously inspired by them, so I don’t get the hate. Robert Plant also publicly sat in front of a camera and told the world he really liked Greta Van Fleet and that he thought they were good and he was honored to be an inspiration. Yet, people still feel the need to defend him when he doesn’t need defending. At least now it’s harder to criticize them unless your just a complete dweeb because they’ve noticeably strayed from where they began and developed more of their own sound.
Josh has also said it is kind of a 'dark comedy' sung from the perspective of a follower in a cult. Looking at it this way it actually makes sense to me. The line "taken by the madness" means to me that the follower is so wrapped up by the cult's beliefs that it is madness.
I think that's the dark comedy bit. The vivak coach i mean Its to do at least in part W universal spirituality. Rumi -esque .. The madness of the world. & blow it up . But sure could be about a cult like follower too We are all that to one degree or another
When Josh Kiszka mentioned Demis Roussos as one of his major influences, some people were almost outraged ("middle aged zeppelin fans" are usually the most livid ones in such cases - not talking about you). Yet, in songs like Tears of Rain or Trip the Light Fantastic...or this one, it is there. When Jake Kiszka mentioned Eric Clapton as one of his major influences - again, the same scenario. And again, it is there - in this very song. Blind Faith. It's a clever reference, too, I must say, since the song appears to be about blind faith (or at least can be interpreted that way)... Yet, all "middle aged zeppelin fans" seem to hear is Thank You. I'm a huge Led Zeppelin fan myself, but when I first listened to Meeting the Master, Thank You or OTHAFA didn't even cross my mind. (Maybe because I wasn't trying to find anything and just enjoyed the music...?) I can hear it now, since people mention it (that's how it often works), but it's essentially just like Stairway vs. Taurus and - to quote you - the rest of the song is completely different. This is not a harsh reaction. On the contrary. You like the song. Fair enough. But, just like many others, I am also a bit tired of "middle aged (male) zeppelin fans" who are "vaguely familiar" with GVF, yet know exactly how they sound like or who they are.
Thank you for your comment. I will definitely be listening and reacting to more GVF. I do think I know the Blind Faith song you’re referring to. If that’s what you meant. Clapton, in Blind Faith. Haven’t listened to that in quite a while! In all honestly, I wasn’t seeking to ‘point out’ how much I think they sound like Zeppelin. I heard what I heard and said what I thought about it. Thanks again!
@@shotgunndunn Yup, Can't Find My Way Home. It does seem you were trying to be fair. It's just how our brains work... you already had those expectations. You mentioned Led Zeppelin within the first 30 seconds, before even hearing the song... So while it may not have been intentional, it was almost inevitable. And it's also inevitable simply because it's still there to a certain extent, although not as much as in their early stuff. I'm not here to argue that they ditched those influences completely. And I'm glad they didn't. That's why I started listening to them in the first place to be honest, but there's much more to it. If they were just another band that "tries" to sound like LZ, I would get bored very soon. As you said, it's usually the heavy parts. Very one-dimensional. But to be the "next Led Zeppelin" (and I think we can agree that does NOT mean to sound just like LZ...), you need to be very eclectic and most importantly, to be able to deliver such a live performance like there's no tomorrow. That required a lot of talent as well as certain dynamics amount the members of the band, and that's what made LZ so great, right? When I saw GVF's Live at the Red Rocks, my jaw dropped. And they got even better since then. And thank YOU for a refreshingly open-minded discussion. May I suggest a live version of Age of Machine? :)
You saw them at Red Rocks?!?!? Oh my good God! Would have died if I was there. Seen them many times but I feel Red Rocks captured the very purest intent of who they really are. They’re performances are getting a bit too “flashy” for my taste. I get that comes with increased fame & branding. Hang on to the Red Rocks memory…you’re incredibly blessed to have had that experience!!!
I mean, I'd say this song is closer to Zeppelin's The Rain Song in style than anything else. I have 0 music knowledge, but when I first heard this, that was my first impression "Oh yea, this is the Rain song". A calm beginning, some sort of journey vibe that hits the top midway through and relaxes again. Not that there's anything with that.
Jimmy Page took a lot of influence from folk music. Maybe he borrowed some licks from them. 🤷🏻♂️ Thank you for your comment. Please Like, Subscribe, and hit the Notification’s Bell if you haven’t already!
Even if people use the Zeppelin comparison as some form of diss, one thing I can say is that GVF must be doing SOMETHING right, because I like the majority of their songs despite not liking the majority of Zeppelin songs, lol.
100% Agreed. They’re doing everything right, I’d say. I always mean it in a good way. Even. If I’m sounding critical or frustrated or something. Thanks for your comment. Please like, subscribe, and hit the notifications bell if you haven’t already!
I've been mentioning Traffic Blind Faith.( Even melon.. lol) I also hear Yes ... Geddy at times on other songs & Doors in one bridge section i think. A bit of something fr 90s but can't place it. The passion of Antony or EV mb. Idk. Etc etc. Overall though .. This is exceptional, transcendent & gorgeous . A master work ( pun not intended)
If you must be compared, it may as well be with one of the best bands ever. I'm a great fan of both bands. Been to several GVF concerts in the past 3 years and many Zepplin concerts long ago. ✌💕
They've said this particular song is about religious fanaticism & needing to practice tolerance...you can definitely see that towards the end when the lyrics say something like, "blow it up (to) give it to him". I love hearing how they've come into their own & are exploring new-ish ways to expand & express themselves!! 💜 Thanks for showcasing their talents & reacting to this song!! 😎👍
The Zep comparisons have grown inane and tiresome. After more than five years of this drivel, you’d think the RUclips makers would move on to something more original than repeating the same script over and over again. Thankfully, the Kiszka brothers and Daniel Wagner can ignore these amateur critics and continue on with the creation of magnificent rock music, the likes of which haven’t been heard in decades. The Peaceful Army marches on.
Yes!!!! Thank you!!! Everyone compares GVF to Zeppelin, and it’s so tiresome. A group of very talented young guys are throwing incredible rock music out to young people who have little else but over sexualized, talentless drivel to listen to. I’ll defend GVF every single time! Love them!
Deny it all you want but even gvf themselves have acknowledged that they were derived from listening to led zep.Joshs singing style and lyrics early on helped to emphasize the Robert Plant sound intentionaly.( just listen any true vocal trainer when they analize him). They are still not well enough known around the world to put themselves above this initial analysis. In time this will change but you can not expect a bird that quacks like a duck to be compared to anything else but a duck and that is how original Plants voice was. It icould be said that it is both a gift and a curse for Josh to sound like Plant.
@@ageofatheism6638 After many many decades of music being kicked out, eventually every single musician is going to be ‘compared’ to someone prior to them. Vocal styles, guitar riffs, melodies, etc. are all finite! They are not infinite…. And eventually, those styles will be repeated …..
I’m just saying what I hear. That’s all. I love what I hear from GVF. They’re amazing. I’m thinking I’ll react to an entire album. Which album would you guys recommend? My natural inclination would be to start at the debut album. I hear they’re playing live near me this year. I’ll be there Fo sho!!!
@@shotgunndunn They put on an incredible show. I dragged my husband to their show… about a year and a half ago…. He wasn’t a fan and made the same “Oh, they’re just trying to sound like Zeppelin” argument to me many times. At the end of the show, he was a fan. A huge fan. And he even told the guys at work what a phenomenal show GVF put on. Josh’s vocal range is otherworldly and we haven’t heard a voice like that in rock music in decades.
Robert Plant complimented Greta calling them, "Led Zeppelin 1." Huge compliment, but this band is amazing in what they produce. I will be seeing them in Fort Worth next month.
I love that the bass is back. When you listen to BATGG you'll notice that bass wasn't as prominent in the songs. I love the album, it's genius, but I missed the bass. P.S. So jealous of you because of the concerts! They're not coming to my country😢
Lucky for me, I don't have that much knowledge of LZ and don't constantly hear all of that. I hear GVF. Also, every good artist continues the work of previous artists. Everyone has influences. I hear GVF, that's it. That said, I think the religious/cult "Master" is a comment on the type of people who worship such a master.
First time watching huge Greta fan , love zep I’m 31 but was raised on classic rock my dads fav was Rush so was raised on them a lot but when I first got into music in my teens zep was my favorite, then a few years later I got into the Beatles Greta us those 3 combined in my eyes
Pretty similar to my story. I’m 41. Grew up on Zeppelin from my parents. Always love them. Best band in all the land!! I’m absolutely loving me some GVF too!! Just found out they’re playing near me this year. I will be there Fo sho!!! Thank you for your comment!!!
Glad you've found them. I just turned 59 and Zep was, is, and always be my fave. I noticed the lyrics on the screen are incorrect. It says "Blow it up" to give him... It should read "Waiting" to give him...
@@johngudmundson5020 yeah I very carefully watched a video of himm singing it after I posted the comment ...didn't have time to go through all the nonsense to find it to delete it though and I don't care either. I'm too old for all that petty bullshit! 🤣
Even if worse case scenario they’re Zeppelin-esque…… who cares?? They’re kicking out great new rock music for a new generation. And sounding incredible while doing so…
My musical tastes are many. I am ecclectic and listen to most genres. GVF is also ecclectic. Josh happens to be a John Denver fan, so am I and have been most of my adult life. I loved his vibrato among other things, makes me emotional at times. I can hear John’s influence at times when Josh is singing, and I find myself tearing up. I love the voices of Loreena McKennitt, Bonnie Raitt, and lots of others, but I could not sing like them…even if I tried. So Josh *trying* to sound like Robert Plant may have a small bit of merit, but I do not believe that he is consciously trying most of the time, he is just fortunate to have had them as one of their musical influences and sometimes it shows because their voices just happen to sound similar at times. Several years ago, I was improvising on the piano and recording what I was playing. When I listened to what I had just recorded, there were a few notes (Name That Tune lol) that sounded like those from one of Loreena’s songs. While I was improvising that day, I was not thinking of her, I was entirely somewhere else in my heart and head. Not copying those notes from her intentionally, they just appeared. And so it goes. It’s all part of the mystery. As Dougie MacLean wrote, and many others have echoed, “All Together…All As One.”
Thanks for the review. I do think they are moving away from being overtly LZ. Also, have a listen to The Wizard by Uriah Heep, that might be more of an influence for the new GVF song. They are evolving nicely.
I have to agree with James below me, I am a Zep fan from way back, but they as well stole riffs from several blues bands and admit it. There is actually a better video out, the Official video. This was just a quick something to release the song. There are many other songs you would here great drums from Danny. You need to hear more of them. Good reaction!
Thank you! I’m planning to do an entire album reaction. I need to hear more of them. But I’d like to post the reactions. So, I’m literally not allowing myself to listen to them until I can make the videos! This sucks! I want more GVF!! Thank you for your comment. Greta Van Fleet opened for Bob Seger in their early years so he must have thought they played that kind of music that just soothes the soul 🎵🎶 you know with that old time rock n roll. Just sayin 🤷♂️

Huge Led Zeppelin fan also but since the 70's (yes, I'm old LOL ). I'm new to this band and I do like them. I felt the same as you, there will never be a "NEXT" Led Zeppelin. Saying they are the NEXT Led Zeppelin must be in the books as some kind of Rock Band blasphemy. lol Josh has his own sound but I can hear a little Robert once in a while, especially in the first video I watched which was Highway Tune. Can you hear it too?
I will add that to my request list. Thank you for your comment. Please like, subscribe, and hit the notifications bell if you haven’t already!! Thanks!
I’m just saying what I hear. Is that still allowed? 😉I do like them. I have listened to more of them. I will continue to listen to more of them. But when you grow up listening to a band and another band comes out with a sound that is overtly influenced by the band (and from what I’ve read GVF seems to think that they were more influenced by Aerosmith!! 😂😂) you grew up listening too… it’s pretty much impossible not to hear that influence. The same thing goes for almost every single metal band and MetallicA (and PanterA). Some borrow influence more creatively than others. Some, it’s pretty blatant. GVF is kinda both. I hear distinct LZ songs as undeniable influence on this song. Yet the song doesn’t sound like LZ. I look forward to reacting to more GVF tunes. Thank you for your comment!
I love Zeppelin just like the next person, but this dude legit can only talk about them. And every guitar note, he reference Page. I mean damn I guess zeppelin created rock and roll.
I have since listened and reacted to (and become a huge fan of…) 2.25 albums of GVF. You should check them out! I still stand by all of the comparisons. They’re very inspired by Zeppelin. Please also note that I have said that we (musicians) ALL wear our influences on our sleeves. Myself included. If you were to hear my music you’d hear, MetallicA, PanterA, Black Sabbath, etc… As for Zeppelin inventing Rock and Roll. Nah. They didn’t. Elvis was before them as you’ll here in their later albums. If any one individual invented rock and roll (guitar) I’d say it would have to be Chuck Berry. Literally every guitar player alive play the licks that he invented. Thank you for your comment. When I put it in Fullscreen I can’t see anything else in either of my monitors. I still need to see the software that I’m recording into. I’m still trying to figure all of this stuff out. Thanks, David. I’ll try it though!!
That "blow it up to give him all of our love" portion of the lyrics disturbs me.....sounds sort of terroristic. I'm pretty sure it's not intended that way. I'm an old gal and had to consult urban dictionary to find different meanings of "blow it up." Also, this is a version of the video I have not seen before. Love the band! They have changed so much. Watching official videos for Highway Tune and Meeting the Master and can hardly believe it's the same band.
I DON'T KNOW WHY PEOPLE CALL THEM A TRIBUTE BAND WHEN THEY HAVE CERTAINLY DEVELOPED THEIR OWN VIBE. LOTS OF BANDS SOUND A BIT LIKE EACH OTHER, SO WHAT. GVF IS ON THE BOARD NOW AND I THINK THEY ARE HERE TO STAY. MY FAVOR IS HANDS DOWN FOR GVF❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
No. They did not. There was even a BIG court case that said that they didn’t. If you listen to the two songs the ONLY similarity is the descending chromatic line from A down to F. Nothing else of the song sounds anything like the other song. Just like what I’ve said in both of my reactions to GVF. I can hear distinct influences. Yet the songs do not sound like a LZ song. Thank you for your comment!
Aerosmith was his inspiration around the time this came out and they didnt even listen to Led Zeppelin until people compared them. His father was a jazz artist. Thats why they have a rock blues sound like Zeppelin. A rock blues genre all has a similarity as that is why theyre in a specific genre right? Doesnt mean because they all have a specific type of sound that everyone in the same genre stole from the original. Smh They did NOT "TAKE ALL THESE BITS N PIECES" Nothing like ACDC n the rest who did. Reaction is one thing but assuming and judging biasly is another. There is nothing in music anymore that pretty much hasnt been done and if youre looking for it youll find it. So yea. Theres that. They were doing radio interviews as kids and theyre a wholesome family type people. Can tell theyre good kids though theyve grown now and nicely evolved over time. So carry on. This song does not sound anything like Zeppelin. Just fishing. Im a die hard LZ fan as well but nah. They deserve respect amd people need to stop trying to ride the LZ comparison buzz. Iys sad. Theyre talented and influence is fine but they didnt even listen to them. One brother did in his older years and im sure more now because of all the accusations but it was Jazz they grew up around. Saying they stole and taking shit is wrong. You must steal too if i find a riff in your sh*t that sound similar. No? But if I look for it ill find it and accuse you too of stealing from someone. Sorry but wrong is wrong. Aerosmith is the inspiration as thats who he listened to. The higher voice was developed in the garage cause he had to scream over the speaker or amp and his brothers liked it. Im fair. Smh. I should also add he said he got the hand gestures from Joe Cocker. He admits when he borrows or takes something. Said he watched a Joe Cocker video and thought it was cool the way Joe holds his hands in mid air. I just think that blatantly saying someone took or got something from someone else is wrong if youre unsure. Stick to "seems he was inspired by" or something. The others come off as hating or predumptuous. Well to me they do. Best!
It would sound better with the volume up higher. It’s really better to listen to the song on its own merits, without the continual comparison to Led Zeppelin.
@@shotgunndunn Not to worry; I figured you didn't know as no one else bothered to mention it. I did try to listen to a couple more of your vids; sad to say, it's still the same issue. Your voice sounds fine, but the music is SO low I can't hear it until I turn my sound up to like 40. And no, it's not my system...it's on your end. Wish I could help out more, but sometimes trial and error is worth the time. Just tryin' to help is all. 🙂🙂
Yeah, I know what you mean. Page was a LOT of things, but a 'Clean' player was NOT one of them. Heartbreaker, anyone??!? Yet he created timeless riffs, melodies, solo's and feels. Including Heartbreaker, which is SLOP CITY!!! IMHO, his most perfectly phrased, and most cleanly executed solo is Stairway to Heaven. That's not to say it's my favorite solo of his... Whole Lotta Love!!! Gets me EVERY time!!! Being a seconds generation Zeppelin fan, I simply cannot imagine a world where that song and solo does not exist. But can you imagine living, breathing, and being alive and perceiving everything in the world, and THEN Whole Lotta Love happens??!!?? Fahk!!! To be alive in 1969. If a song is being critiqued, it would be great to not hear commentary throughout it. Some of the best vocals on this track were stepped on by your speaking. No one band owns the rights to riffs or pitches or notes. Your constant reference to LZ diminishes the talent that GVF has, and is continuing to cultivate..

GVF are talented musicians but when you tread on the sacred turf of Zep, then they have issues. My main problem with them is the singer - he sounds like a combo of Robert Plant and Geddy Lee on helium!
Plant was such a studio singer. Live he was okay, but the songs sounded different most of the time because of his singing. Lee and GVF singer only are similar in certain notes they get to, but nothing much else. This GVF guy, in the past 2 years has been great live after up and down performances prior. Like all of you, i'm looking forward to their next albums in the future.
This song Is pretty clear and obviously about a dog getting out of the pound and meeting his or her master for the first time It only fits perfectly. Think about a dog ready to give his love..
Play it back and imagine a dog getting picked from the pound, while you listen to this song. it fits perfectly and is beautiful. intertwined. with that narrative.
probably more astrology, not one of the popular religions.-.re:lyrics. His voice is what sets them apart specifically from Led Zep. HOwever, you does sing like plant in some of his past songs.
You are correct. This is not without bias. It’s impossible not to hear the influence. In my second GVF reaction I consciously made an effort NOT to compare the two bands. @@shotgunndunn highway tune ...plant/page should have gotten credits on that one lol. When they put out that song about 5-6 years ago...i am not sure if they expected such backlash. It got them some pub though so here they are 6 years later.
Calling Paige a master is laughable, as is calling anyone a rip-off considering Paige stole EVERY lick he played from black blues guitarists from America nobody in Britain had heard of. Do some research before you bow to Zeppelin
You say that like it isn’t already common knowledge. Page became a master. The way he used those licks was very unique. Every single guitar player live today plays licks that Chuck Berry, Albert King, and the other King’s played. Muddy Waters too. FYI, this was my first reaction video to GVF. I have since fell in love with them and their style. I still hear the STRONG Zeppelin influence, but I hear GVF as unique as well. We all cop licks from our predecessors. I wish they would stop with all the meaningless make up and ridiculous dress. The video is just poorly scripted. And please get the mojo back that you had with your break out song Highway Tune.
Seen them many times but I feel Red Rocks
captured the very purest intent of who they really are. They’re performances are getting a bit too “flashy” for my taste. I get that comes with increased fame & branding. Hang on to the Red Rocks memory…you’re incredibly blessed to have had that experience!!!
@@joanquerzoli5201 No, I wish. I'm talking about the video. I actually haven't seen live yet...like really "live". I have to wait until November.
You hear Led Zepellin in the initial riff, I hear Brazilian rural folk music. It's curious how music goes.
Exactly. Led Zeppelin had lots of songs I couldn’t listen to then and most definitely won’t listen to now. But gvf is a no-skip-playlist kind of band.
100% Agreed. They’re doing everything right, I’d say. I always mean it in a good way. Even. If I’m sounding critical or frustrated or something.

Not just Led Zeppelin but bands like Rush, Jane's Addiction. These guys are pretty unique
I've been mentioning Traffic Blind Faith.( Even melon.. lol)

A bit of something fr 90s but can't place it. The passion of Antony or EV mb. Idk. Etc etc.
Overall though ..
This is exceptional, transcendent & gorgeous . A master work ( pun not intended)
I agree re Janes. Or Perry at least.
Mb spiritual commonalities w Josh/ Perry
If you must be compared, it may as well be with one of the best bands ever. I'm a great fan of both bands. Been to several GVF concerts in the past 3 years and many Zepplin concerts long ago. ✌💕
I wholeheartedly agree!!! Thanks for your comment!!!
They are blasting religious fanaticism! Very cerebral! Especially for guys are 25 or younger. Brilliant!
The song is about the evolution of fanaticism. His voice is extraordinary in this.
Just heard them the other day. They bad assthe look and the sound is awesome.🎉
If someone were to say they sound like Led Zeppelin I say so what I cant get enough of this kind of music.
I'm a huge GVF fan, have seen them twice in concert and going to see them again in May. They have MANY good songs. That's my input.
Robert Plant complimented Greta calling them, "Led Zeppelin 1." Huge compliment, but this band is amazing in what they produce. I will be seeing them in Fort Worth next month.
And we should all be thankful to have fresh original music in the 2020s that hearken to that classic 70s sound.
Greta doesn't need to ride on Led Zeppelin's coattails. They are talented in their own right.

I'm surprised that you didn't mention The Rain Song, not so much in the music as in the visual imagery in the video.

The same criticisms leveled at Greta were also leveled at Led Zeppelin in their early days.

I researched them as you ask. They have theological themes in their music, both Christianity, Hinduism but also Agnosticism & Spirituality.

You are determined to credit zeppelin with everything you like about these guys. Why don't (can't?) you say simply that you dig them??
If you were to hear my music you’d hear, MetallicA, PanterA, Black Sabbath, etc…
As for Zeppelin inventing Rock and Roll. Nah. They didn’t. Elvis was before them as you’ll here in their later albums. If any one individual invented rock and roll (guitar) I’d say it would have to be Chuck Berry. Literally every guitar player alive play the licks that he invented.

Thank you for your comment!
sounds more like triumph...but whatever
Yeh also YES .
If They did Magic Power by Triumph it would be a hit.
Best!

Thanks for the honest feedback. I’m still cutting my teeth at this whole reaction thing. I’m working on it.
It would sound better with the volume up higher. It’s really better to listen to the song on its own merits, without the continual comparison to Led Zeppelin.

Not sure who mashes better... Page was the best masher.. couldn't hold time for anything... he just mashed through playing..
Both of my parents were 18 yo in 1969. No better time to be THAT precise age.

Isn’t a problem with putting your own spin on a classic sound. Anyway, they’ve said before that Led Zepplin isn’t their only influence.
Sounding like Plant is a problem?? It is Josh’s actual God given voice.
Plant was such a studio singer. Live he was okay, but the songs sounded different most of the time because of his singing.
This is that but it's it
probably more astrology, not one of the popular religions.-.re:lyrics.
