Brothers, I am your sister from Palestine, Gaza. We need the requirements of the month of Ramadan, including food and drink. May God protect you with my personal photo. 🇵🇸
A few days ago I was preparing for the English language exam at the C1-C2 level. I had a problem with the speaking part, while reading and using the English language did not cause me a problem. Since I have been following you for a long time, I watched your videos and they helped me a lot and now I am officially a qualified English speaker. Lucy, thank you very much for such a fun and on the other hand professional English language learning. All praise indeed 👏❤️
@@svetlanamandic9785 Just to nit pick, Svetlana. We don't say "all praise indeed". we say 'you betcha!" Is it just mere coincidence that Lucy is so drop dead gorgeous? Have a good one.
Lucy knows what is going on . She knows what a non native speaker needs , may be because she kept listening to requests and common questions that students ask AND not to forget she has her own experience in learning Italian language. Very very good teacher . Keep it on!
Hello Lucy, thats exactly the way I learned the beautiful Croatian language, learning by doing, being corrected, making hillarious mistakes, never afraid of making mistakes and allways having great fun. At high school in Germany we had a wonderful teacher, she also teached us stuff between the lines, the last lesson is more than 40 years ago, but I am learning constantly. I adore your videos, your way of teaching, and the clearness, when you explain stuff, and, last, but not least, your friendly, beautiful smile and voice. Thank you for your wonderful work. Best wishes, Rita, a German living in Croatia ( I hope, I didn't make too many mistakes 🤗)
Yet still a native-speaker of English! Stumbled upon Lucy and her videos a little less than 5 months ago, looking to improve and brush up on my writing skills, and so far I can see a dramatic change, not only in my confidence as a non-native English speaker but also generally! Thank You kindly Lucy for sharing your knowledge and wisdom with us! Much appreciated!
I am your blind fan!I am so lucky to be with your channel! I love watching your channel videos; I miss your videos so much when I don't have my mobile; Especially to you through this video
Compared to other English-teaching youtuber,s your lecture is more helpful because you pointed out the principle or general rules for learning English. Thank you for your great lecture.
Important tip - pay attention. That's my no. 1 problem :) Listening a lot will help, even with understanding all the things mentioned, I don't even notice them. I used to be totally lost and had hard time understanding most native speakers, today it's much better with no conscious effort or learning. But I'd say hearing about them helps with using them.
I took Irish in college and our teacher had two techniques she did with us to get us to speak more naturally. One she told us to kick the last consonants from one word to the start of the next or drop them completely.... And also she would drill us in saying sentences faster and faster and faster. After this experience I became pretty good at reading out loud... Which is funny bc when I listen to the Irish news on rnag it doesn't seem to have this flow or cadence to it.
That's such a cool lesson, thank you Lucy!! I used to watch the RUclips videos of my native language speakers at x1.25 and x1.5 of the regular speed for a while. Than I noticed I've got better in understanding the English talking speakers. So, that might be a one more tip to improve the fast English (or any another foreign language) speech understanding I guess.😃
I thought British English is one of the toughest to understand too...just realised tha you're a Britisher as well and I do understand every word and sentences nicely. Long live the Britishers
As a court stenographer, I experience many of these examples every day, with the way people speak. The linking can be funny at times. I wish I could go with the context instead of capturing what is said verbatim! The one thing I do not agree with is what you said about contractions. They can be dangerous because the n’t can be swallowed and unheard, which completely changes the meaning, such as “didn’t” to “did.” The example you gave of slurring together “won’t you” often is heard by a court reporter as “won’t chew.”Thank God for proofreading!Otherwise, it would be wonderful if all of my witnesses could listen to these tips before they give sworn testimony. 😊
As an excercise I watch videos, listen to podcasts, news etc at double speed. At the beginning it is shocking but later I get accustomed and real everyday speakers seem to speak very slowly. Another thing I learn whole sentences and pieces of texts saying them aloud. It also helps with better understanding of fast speech😊😊
It's always so impressive how the most basic sounding things can reveal a lot about how people speak and unlock ways for other people to understand them. When I reached the part at which you talk about catenation I was flabbergasted about how I've been practising that without even realising it! 😀
Seriously,Lucy I'm Very Much Interested In You,I Belonged To India and When I randomly Watch Your Channel On RUclips Scroll,I was Shocked That There Is Also a Person That have Such Guidefull and attractive Skills That Whole World Is Enjoy,Hope That You would Continue Your This Channel and Teach EveryOne . Could you please make a video about how to separate sentences with a comma, a full stop or whatever? How to correctly use the punctuation so that we have a neat and elegant text? (Clauses etc) That would be incredibly beneficial. And perhaps, glottal stops in British English would be extremely admired as well.
Assimilation. I'm glad to learn this. I wrote a song called, "Would You Be Ready". My cousin who sang it brought up this up to me about the ju sound between would and you. I thought about changing the words to will you after his comment.
I believe my English listening skill has improved a lot just listening Every Day 3 or 4 English podcasts. Definitely it's not the"wagic wand" for understanding everything but.. I'd strongly recommend listening a lot of English Podcasts... The more the better, and very soon you will see that I'm talking about 😜
Hello, friends! Once again, I'm convinced that experience comes with time. And also there's such a thing as individual abilities. It's impossible to jump above your head. In short, patience, patience and patience again... And our dear Lucy is charming, isn't she?.. ÷))
Sometimes is really hard to understand some people who speak in your native language so no worries if you don’t catch every single word in English. It happens to me in my mother language as well.. 😊
