  • This video is part of a series that attempts to take you through the process and phases of training for the classical dance form Bharatanatyam. It also aims to answer few common questions that are associated while embarking on a decision to train for Bharatanatyam.
    Lakshmi Kalaalayam
Established in the year 2004 by Ramaa Venugopalan, Lakshmi Kalaalayam trains keen students who study Bharatanatyam in a holistic method. The aim of Lakshmi Kalaalayam is to infuse a deep respect for the art form and ensure that the students are trained in a traditional method. The focus of training is on imparting knowledge about the various aspects of Bharatanatyam, nurturing inquisitive minds and helping students explore the vast depths of this dance form.
    Ramaa Venugopalan
Initiated into Bharatanatyam at a very young age, Ramaa Venugopalan, performer and teacher for about two decades, believes in practicing and passing on the dance form in a meticulous method. With a Master's Degree in Bharatanatyam, she continues to internalize and provide a profound quality in her approach to performing and teaching Bharatanatyam.

You not only dance, but tell a story and show emotions at the same time. Complexly Beautiful. I wish I could understand all the meanings of the dance.

This is amazing. The teacher seems so knowledgeable and didactic in her teachings and the students are really giving it their all, some of their expressions are amazing.

i'd prefer Indian classical dance than the modern dance. it's so elegance and peaceful. i don't know why but Indian musics can always reduce my anger.

Bcz Hinduism(it was name given to us by Western after river Indus(Sindhu)=India Hindu),) is not a religion its a way of life. In Hinduism dance is a way to allign the geometry of our body system with that of universe. This is the reason you feel that way.
      Namaste🙏🙂

This is such a beautiful video explaining various stages of Bharatnatyam :) I started learning Bharatnatyam when I was 6 but had to quit due to health issues during those years. As a 23 year old and a hectic career, I'm learning Kathak coz it's easier to grasp and doesn't put much pressure on legs unlike Bharatnatyam! But I miss doing Bharatnatyam. My Kathak teacher often complains my feet aren't together as they're in Kathak and a little wide apart like it's in Bharatnatyam :) If I complete Visharad in Kathak, I might think of learning Bharatnatyam all together again :)

This is Great , there are very few can explain like this ..... one suggestion When teaching such profound art (infinite) , please do not say number of years to practice (2 yrs, 3yrs) .... person to person it varies ....
It will limit the mind ...
