  • This is an extremely personal piece. There is little to say here, so I recommend you close your eyes, and just enjoy the music as your thoughts wander. Also, I am never above criticism, but this piece is exactly what I want it to be. I really meant every single note here, so it is perfect to me. That doesn't mean that it's actually perfect, but it is to me.

Beautiful. As you always say, critiquing a personal work doesn't really accomplish much. Which is fine because I don't have anything to critique anyway :) nice work as always. I need to listen to more of your older stuff soon!

This was amazing Ben. Your music was always amazing to me. Even with Noteflight's interesting take on the instruments.

Thank you so much man, I really appreciate it, especially with this piece. (also btw, I didn't write this on NoteFlight lol)

@@sageobrien6776 I know, I meant your pieces that are on noteflight to. I have always loved those as well even though the instruments on weird over there. I know that if I said I loved it to every on of your pieces it would mean everything to you, that isn't why I say it though. I say it because you actually mean the pieces and very note or symbol you put. Your music means something, and it is true to you.

Hmm... That's an interesting way to put it. Look, I could say something so familiar to you that you would just swallow it whole, like, "I appreciate it so much," or, "Thanks, it means a lot," but I'm not going to say any of those, because it wouldn't really help you to understand how I really feel about you actually caring about the music I write. So instead, I'll say this: likes, dislikes, subscribers, etc. etc. don't phase me, because if I focus on things like that, then I'll be more subject to things like failure and self-doubt. All I care about is the contributions I make to the world. If I can write music which really does mean something, and you can tell that it means something, then I have won, and that's all there is to it. So thank you, because while your general praise is appreciated, the fact that you legitimately care means the world to me, as the world I live in, is one of contribution, and you're helping me to know that I'm succeeding at that.

@@sageobrien6776 Awwwwww. That means a lot. I totally agree though. when it comes to everything, if the music means something to me and someone tells me the same it means a lot. I don't care if I'm a good player or composer if someone gets any meaning out of it that is what matters. You still have a way of words huh. I have missed these responses.

Yup, music is a very powerful thing. I always say the musician's are really apart of the healing profession. And thanks lol, I suppose I just try to be very specific with what I say, but to still say it in a way which you haven't heard before so it's more engaging to read or to listen to. Another one of my philosophies is that I try to allow everything I say/write to be substantial enough, so that it could potentially stand as the last thing I ever say/write. Can we realistically do that? No, we'll criticize others and make ourselves wrong, but it's a possibility to live into. I try to apply that sort of possibility into life as often as I can :)

How long does it take you to finish a piece on average?

    • @sageobrien6776

Well, it varies incredibly. It just depends. I know that's sort of a non-answer, and this piece in particular shouldn't have taken as long as it did to write, but it was about 20 days before I wrapped this one up. A small solo to a chamber ensemble usually takes about a week. A small orchestral suite takes two weeks to a month. A large scale orchestral work can take many, many months. The longest it's ever taken me to write something was nine months, and the shortest was perhaps two or three days.
