      The problem is simple market dynamics sadly. These games are long out of print so the supply cannot increase and prices are set by the few people selling. When the whole retro game pump happened during COVID it set price expectations up which discourages people from selling these games at what used to be normal prices. Now, the only thing that can cause the crash is a sudden increase in supply or a sudden drop in demand. Both are normally quite unlikely but the former is known to happen from time to time.
      Sadly however, we are seeing a sort of across the board increase here which is a lot harder to induce without the same kind of widespread economic catastrophe that caused it in the first place.

    It's kind of mad that a £300+ price can be considered cheap for any game. It's still kind of a holy grail price for me - anything worth over £100 is part of a rarefied list in my (admittedly bargain hunted) collection.

      It’s definitely grail prices for me also. It’s also crazy that to buy Original copies of the first 3 silent hill games. You’re going to spend around 500$ usd to get them. Which i love those games and Silent Hill 3 is my favorite. But i can’t justify paying those kind of prices for them. I definitely can’t justify buying Haunting Ground either. Especially for games that sold millions of copies and are not rare at all. The prices are only high because the game is popular. There’s no reason a game that sold let’s say 10 million copies should cost the same or more than a game that sold 250k copies. That’s craziness also. And the whole graded games scam. Like Mario going for a million dollars or 500k something stupid like that. Don’t get me wrong most of the Mario games are great but they sold millions of copies. They should be in a bargain bin. They’ll have 1/1 sports cards graded a 10 and they go for 1000’s not a million and it’s the only 1 printed. I know it’s a different media but the concept is the same. And I’m a physical media guy and it’s possible (especially disc based games) that even sealed copies could have a rotted disc inside. And people could just be paying sky high prices for a manual,artwork and a plastic wrapper. You just never know

    Got to point out, it was never banned, It got pulled from sale due to the controversy. There were copies that were sent out to people who pre ordered it in the UK, mostly ones that just broke the street date. I am more than happy to see the price of this drop, Its a game with a great story (awful combat) and very unique. It also sounds bad to say, but it was never actually that rare to get hold of a copy. Its always been readily available for the EU copies on eBay. Just been rather pricey. I would love a UK copy for the collection, but I'm happy to stick with my Italian one. I'm in NA and bought Rule of Rose shortly after release, on sale even. Played it once and it lived on my shelf ever since. At the time of purchase, no one I knew had played or even heard of this game. I only just found out a couple of days ago that it's a rare collectors item. I still have my original NA copy, complete in box with registration. I fired it up on my old PS2 slim and it runs flawlessly. I'm completely torn on whether I should sell it or keep it 🤔

    • @gamegaijin
      @gamegaijin  2 месяца назад +1

      Depends on if you need the money and/or have an emotional attachment to it. If you do keep it, it will be a story. The game you got for a sweet deal. Equally, it sells for so much in NA that I wouldn't blame you for selling it and turning it into several games you want to play.

    I recently bought reproduction boxes for Wizardry, Might and Magic, and Ultima. And they look brand new. I could easily age them and sell them as authentic but I won't. Just a heads up.
