    Her cover of Jason Becker's Altitudes... Rivals her Vai, imho.

      Anthony I agree. Her For the Love of God cover is still my favorite, but every time I watch her Altitudes cover it gets a little closer.

    Always love seeing Tina, she is so technically perfect that it makes any song look way easier than it is. She isnt an emotional player, but her ease in playing any difficult piece is incredible. If you really want to rock out and see her fingers fly, check out her rendition of Dragon Force - Through the Fire and Flames. Its her version of combining both guitar parts into one, its really great.

    Malmsteen is my all-time favorite guitarist. I've seen him several times (+10). I give her a 9.5, since I can't discern a difference between her and Master Malmsteen. In fact I will say this. There are times I've seen Yngwie do Arpeggios from Hell at less than Tina S. I give her wiggle room for her creative discretion. Great Job, and Great Review David.

    Awesome!!! My initial prediciton would have been a 9.1 or 9.2, but yeah, agree with the quality of the arpeggios

    I go out of town for a few day to see The Warning and you throw in a Tina S reaction while I'm gone. Just now getting to it. I agree with you on For the Love of God. Its my favorite cover, although I'm looking forward to you reacting to her cover of Jason Becker's Altitudes.

      Nobody has talent. Its practice. Do you think this is the first time she plays? 😀 Just practice. Its the key with everything.

    What is great about all her covers is that she did take liberties with them which made them more authentic and less robotic memorization of the piece. (which would still be ridiculous to play this song that way)

  • @THSeaNotes
    @THSeaNotes 2 года назад +3

    Maybe, the song was too slow for her? 😎 Other than her ability to play anything, I think I love watching her fluidity more. She is like a professional ballerina or ice dancer with her hands. So graceful and elegant. I could watch and listen to her play for a long long time.
    Maybe, you should score her in five areas?
    Guitar skills (like, power, speed, flow across the fretboard etc.)
    Transitions (connecting moves between the required elements in a song)
    Performance.
    Composition (how the song is arranged)
    Interpretation (conveying the story and mood of the music)
    Just a thought. 👍

    I have to say... being a metal head and metal guitarist since the early 90'ies I never got into Malmsteen. Sure, it was ridiculously impressive and tickled that part of the brain that get triggered by extremely technical playing and he did record some songs that I liked. Ultimately I lost all interest after feeling that nearly every single song on his albums were all about Malmsteen-style neo-classical metal shredding. It's like Michael Angelo Batio etc. he's a technical freak on guitar seemingly with 2-4 separate brains but I can't listen to it since it bores me to death after the initial "wow, that's impressive". Technical/mechanical shredding doesn't do anything for me.
    The composition should be #1 and if there's space and a reason to add a short solo which isn't just fast arpeggios/scale runs but has substance and improve the song. I seem to prefer guitar solos that move around between for instance half-notes to ~16th+ notes in intersting ways. It's a pity Tina S suddenly disappeared from the scene, got married and doesn't seem to be an active guitarist these days (unless things have changed). I suspect she may be one of those prodigies that practice their craft for 1-2 decades from when they were very young and burned out (lost the love and interest for playing).

      It's more than that, his vibrato and bending is also top notch.

    • @scyphe
      @scyphe 2 года назад

      @@epic103 Perhaps, but technical skills doesn't automatically lead to good music (which of course is very subjective since we enjoy different aspects of music).
      I simply lost all interest in guitar-virtuosos creating music as a vehicle for showing off their incredible technical skills. Don't get me wrong, I still get off on amazing playing as long as it's done right compositionally.

      @@scyphe - my point is... Yngwie is more than just speed, his vibrato and bending often get overlooked by his critics. There is a lot of substance behind what he plays.
      Nobody was playing like Yngwie 39 years ago. His picking, tone, vibrato, and overall technique was by far the best. He influenced everyone that came after him. When Yngwie hit the scene in 1983 he took them all out, no one could touch him. Cheers

    She's great especially being that young. But......technically ...flawless but when I listen to The Loner and compare it with Gary, she lacks "the feeling". She plays it perfectly but something is missing, but again she's young those things will grow on her.

  • @kafakoparan

    Out of rhythm, very fast so missing some notes, not waiting enough for specific parts. Nice play separately but bad play for the piece because of out of sync.

    90 percent of the music I listen to are guitar Virtuoso's so when you compared her cover of Steve Vai's for "For the Love of God" as sounding better to you...well let's just say you're walking the fine line of music blasphemy. I listen to her and hear a weak horrible vibrato, mistakes, flat bends at times, etc. Anyhow, watching Vai playing that song live is truly where he shines. Her "liberties" are cheap parlor tricks that aren't impressive. Now, for this Yngwie cover, my score is...7.5. I have spoken. Rant finished.

    9.4 is waaaaaaaaay too high. Yes, she played it cleanly. Would you give Yngwie 9.4 for this song? You would? I didn't think so. Now, however, Yngwie not only played it, he wrote it.
