Amazing story of a resilient family. The shame and pain of the past is not ours to keep and bury inside ourselves this family has done what we all should do which is to set the past free in order to free ourselves. I send them so much love and peace in their continued journey. I too have paternal roots in Greece, also a family with a story and a past not completely understood. But our journeys continue! And also- Greece is a magical place in so many ways, it is the best thing that they all went there together as family to find some answers, some connections to the past and also to build memories and set the future in motion. Very best wishes everyone- Bravo!!

There is the bond between a father & daughter, between a mother & daughter, between a father and son and then there is the bond like no other -- a mother and her son. When THAT bond is broken it is irreparable, so is the ability of a man to truly know love. One example is when boys are sent to boarding school at an early age, separated from their mothers. They don't get the nourishing they need to love. It is called Boarding School Syndrome. I was married to such a man and never truly figured out the disconnect with his relationship with anyone until I read an essay about such a victim. For them, how to truly love someone is incomprehensible. They may marry, (many times more than once) but do not know the meaning of true love. Girls are stronger and the bond is different w/parents than a boy's. SAD

I'm wondering if the DNA test made it possible for them to locate any of their grandmother's family. It is a lovely story.

I'm guessing most of their grandmother's family is still in Greece. I wonder how prevalent the use of home DNA kits like 23andMe is over there.

    My dad considered everyone family.
Every human is about .05% unique from every other human. If you switch a newborn from Kenya with a newborn from China at birth, the "Kenyan" baby will be "Chinese" and the "Chinese" baby will be "Kenyan". Every mental marker of "identity" (country, language, diet, mannerisms, received history, etc) will be reversed, and every physical marker (eye shape, skin color, etc) is not a problem except in the perception of others who may be insecure or surprised. A human newborn is a universal sample of very closely related species.
The question "who are you" mostly relates to the most recent results and psychological impact of who conquered who.
The only scientific and meaningful answer to "who are you" is "We are all 99% African, but have short memories". The place of your birth and recent lineage can be insignificant and is in reality random.

I think this is the story of many of us humans... when our parents were not thought how to L.O.V.E. it's hard for them to show or teach us love... funny how they are so many similar stories around the world 🌎

My uncles could learn a thing or two from them.
This is very similar to the story of my grandfather and his children... My half uncles and aunts.

I have a half-sister that I don't know and will likely never meet. DNA doesn't make a connection unless both parties want it.

😔 I'm sorry. Some people hold on for dear life to their fears, their prejudice, their frustrations and their shame. I hope some day she will agree to meet you.
