I love what he says about lisa: "sensitive, heartfelt stuff... she just tears your heart out. there's so much jazz in the notes and phrases that she picks. she was singing the 9ths and 11ths of the chords. some of the things sound like choices that miles would have made." i'm glad lisa's musical genius is recognized by another musical genius, and compared to even a third musical genius
Lisa Hannigan & Damian Rice just kill on this. I had never heard of either of them when this came out - 12? 14 years ago? But it is the best version I’ve ever heard of this song, including Holiday’s. Herbie Hancock’s right - they just tear your heart out.
Thanks so much for posting. This is an incredible version of an amazing song. Devastating. And "Possibilities" is a fabulous documentary, one of my faves.
you can find the finished version here - absolutely beautiful, especially Lisa's voice. /watch?v=DkBFmP8qpPc&list=LLXnG_BEJJKimp20Ua9tUWdQ&index=1&feature=plpp_video
It's funny, I remember seeing this a few years ago, thinking, oh, these two really really REALLY miserable looking kids from Ireland... let's skip to Christina's part. Right now I'm listening to nothing else but Damien Rice and of course, this is great.
Damn, Herbie wrote his shit out in a few minutes and said, "I've got my part!!!" I don't know if those two kids really understood the genius that was in their presence.
I didn't state that he wrote the song, I said that he wrote his part out (piano). "Don't Explain" is a classic that's been covered from Billie Holiday to Dexter Gordon.
This is still magical, years later. ❤

Very well put, she is an unappreciated national treasure!

When Damien sings the Chorus he is so full of felling, it so emotional... speechless ❤
her voice is so fragile ... awesome
He sings "You know that I love you" and looks at Lisa immedeately...it might mean absolutely nothing but seeing it still warms my heart ♥
Heart wrenchingly beautiful.
Just a magnificent rendition of a wonderful song. BRAVO

No one sings this as beautifully as Billie Holiday, but this is not bad at all. Different, but effective. I'm sure Billie would've agreed.
She was had an amazingly sweet voice
@DaleyErickson Yeah, it's great!
Wow
Onde posso ouvir a musica na íntegra? Linda demais!!!
@88andreajlee I just saw that damn youtube blocked it everywhere except Ireland. You can get the mp3 from beemp3.com
1:12 what are the chords?

those are genius too,u talk like u r a supper genius
What's a "Supper Genius", or do you mean "Super Genius"? If that's the case, then yes I am!!!
He didn't write the song, itself. This is a cover.
I didn't state that he wrote the song, I said that he wrote his part out (piano). "Don't Explain" is a classic that's been covered from Billie Holiday to Dexter Gordon.
slice39 you are a super genius? Herbie is just a genius?
No one delivers Billie Holiday to Herbie Hancock and fakes anything. Don't Explain = No Excuses.
While rapers are talking about wheels and money
There is people making REAL music
So much in it.
Credit to this version, deeply moved.
