I own a 32 RB28 with just under 700 bhp and I can agree with everyone mentioning here not to go too much power, 700 is too much and is properly terrifying. Although it’s never old embarrassing supercars
Mines only got 395 and thats entertaining enough. I'd be worried about losing the ability to fang it in all conditions down a twisty road with much more power to be honest.
@@originalboon it can handle it, it’s just having the confidence that it can that’s the scary bit. The 4WD system is surprisingly capable at that power as it’s almost perm in 4WD mode due to the Gs mixed with a updated g sensor.
@@AlexGrA surfaces were all blemish free and needed nothing doing, and it had been running a blitz stainless air filter for a long time before i got it so I was surprised there was more crap right through the engine.
Have driven a 600hp evo 5 on public roads and thougth that the power was spot on. Its enough to scare the shit out of you but still alot of fun and some what controllable on a 4wd car.
Love it! I'm exited to see what kind of goodies you are planning to wack together. You don't need a lot of HP anyways - just reliability. So - sorting out the oiling issues is a priority i guess? Few people understand that Slow = smooth and smooth = Fast.
I left it for ages without the wood, but because I didn’t have to look at it it didn’t bother me lol. But it’s not nice is it, hanging a 6 cylinder with no support the other end. I think I might side mount it for the build. They seem to recommend it in the Nissan manual.
Lol, inside the house. I've secured a different room for the build. With JTCC the power was controlled by hardware limitations really. Safe to assume they were around 550-600. In aus they imposed various boost restrictions.
How many lbs did you originally use to torque down those cam bolts? Intake/exhaust Valves look to be running a little lean too. Good thing it’s a superior motor and RB’s are super strong ☺️
Am I correct in saying the group As were (reportedly) around the 550hp mark? Anything around that figure I think would be perfect. As you say you don’t need crazy power and I’d prioritise cooling and efficiency over all out power if you want to race it for an extended period of time.. great video as always.
I do have some info on them somewhere, I’ll try and dig it out. I’m not focused on what they did engine wise at all with this, just because mine will differ so much for lots of reasons. Totally agree though, attribute trade off can’t prioritise power :)
Glad to see you watch the MotiveGarage videos too!
The only proper video of an rb tear down. Gunna have to do the same here soon. Lost compression in cylinder 6.
Good luck mate!
Great vid, looking forward to more👊
my oil pump on short nose crank went while on the motorway and luckily just did the bearings - good excuse for 550 upgrade

Doesn't need crazy horsepower. We asked the audience and it appears you are mistaken.
Yolo my man.
It’s all relative ;)
When I tore down my RB25 the cam cap bolts were pretty solid as well, all went back together and ran fine though
Thanks for letting me know mate :) were the bearing surfaces clean or a few scratches?

Yeah oil and cooling is a priority. The objective is 40 minutes race use. So it’s a very different usage case to the majority of RBs built now.
@@AlexGrA Your not going to use it on the street?
@@spotty91 kinda.. only for testing. Or the odd comedy trip to work.
Good work man , I do the same with the wood with engine on the stand!!

Great video !! Thanks for the content!
That’s how my block and head looked like but the stock turbos went pop
Loving your hermetically sealed engine room , where's the dyno? lol
That poor turbo, also for group A is there a limit to engine power?

I for one are grateful you have an understanding girlfriend :)
An extension bar on a ratchet is being illegal. You do know that right?
Not in your of home mate
Lovin it mate , what were the thrusts like ?
They’re all good buddy, but I have a different crank for it, hopefully they’re ok on that too lol.
What crank are you putting in dude? Subbed mate! 👍
@@ccooxxyy well... some issues have arisen... so I’m not sure anymore. Need to look under the sofa see what I can rustle up.
Should be fine dude, that's not a terrible amount of damage to that compressor wheel.
Personally the misses is being unreasonable Alex, mine let me rebuild my engine on the kitchen table 🤷
This is only the tear down of course...

Would the impact not have taken the bolts out without the bar?
Probably buddy, but I like to take them off in a more controlled fashion so I can do 1/4 turn at a time.
Off to a flying start. Are you doing anything on the oil pump front or sticking with Nissan/Nismo N1?
Dry sump is the plan mate
@@AlexGrA ooosh! Nice 👍
