SHe does a great job and I like her sense of humor. (To the videographer after using him as a model: "Back to work!"). Clear and organized with just the right balance of show and tell.

Thanks for the nice review. Just a note about SA - the spherical aberration control actually defocus part of the white light from the edge of the lens before (-) and after (+) the focus field trying to keep out the chromatic aberrations and to preserve as much as possible the center of the composition focused. The Bokeh "control" is just a side effect in portrait photography. The SA control could be quite useful in macro and the product photography for reshaping the light by smoothing (-) or sharpening (+) the background and the edges of your focused objects. Imagine what you can do with some artificial light and a wedding ring, for example... RF 100mm truly is a brilliant lens with supreme image quality.

Hi Amy, nice lens and nicely presented, as usual. I'm trying to make up my mind between three Canon cameras - madly one is an XF605:and the other two the R5 flavours. Then, sob story, today part of my roof blew off ....... even worse, it was my birthday. Now need to consult my insurers first!

That switch is interesting. In the past I never used 1:1 macro lenses for portraiture because they were very sharp and exposed skin defects too much. My most expensive lens was a Pentax lens designed explicitly for portraiture with a soft focus. With that switch, if I understand it correctly, you can now take an unmanipulated flattering portrait image with a high end macro lens. Why you would want to do that with one click digital post processing (and a strength slider) to achieve the same thing, I do not know.

I enjoy this review. I chuckled about not being able to track butterflies as a result of all the kiddos around. I've been shooting this lens exclusively for nearly a week on an R6 body. Macro plants and insects primarily. Loving the lens. Mostly. Sometimes the auto focus locks me out and and the solution seems to be turning the camera off and back on. I have found the stabilization useful for handheld macro shots. Really liking the minimum focus distance of this lens.

What river is that in the background? I grew up near Brighton and fished the local rivers. Is that an estuary at high tide?
The size of that camera and lens is absurdly large (for me) as a modern system that is not SLR. I do agree that hand held close-ups with a Canon 100mm macro lens and fast AF is a really nice feature to have.

Nice review, except feels incomplete. No mention of focus shift. Only did your macro shots at f/2.8?

If you do get a 70-200 I highly recommend the EF iii because it's just a much higher build quality. It's insanely tough

@@SikConVicTioN And probably cheaper! Canon should release a RF 70-200 built without the external barrel

@@Sam1986E is not just that, overall the EF 2.8iii is by far the best feeling lens I've ever held from any manufacturer. It's just a insanely solid lens, I've seen people drop this lens on hardwood floor from chest height and it continued to work flawlessly

Amy, this "SA" switch is nothing new, to us Nikon users, as we have the 105 DC and the 135 DC lenses, these have a Defocus control, same as this on the canon lens, it also apears on Mamiya RB67 lenses, 50/65/90 secour C and the K/L 90 mm lenses, as a sharpness adjuster on those lenses, doing this EXACT same thing ( for 1975 vintage!!), which adjusts the placement of bokeh in the scene, the AMOUNT is still iris controlled, but is a different tact on the selective focus concept ( the only other way to acheive this is via view camera tilt/swing movements, or Tilt\shift lenses for dslr's).

The British accent is just an excuse for a speech impediment
"At all" is not spelled "at toll"

That's a Brighton accent right there, nothing wrong with that at toll! Thanks for tuning in! Amy
