  • We've finally gotten around to recording our ever-popular "Introduction to Bladesmithing" shop class! This series will be broken down into three parts: forging, grinding, and finishing. This video covers all the basics of forging a self-handled knife and makes a great primer/refresher for our students who have taken the course in our shop, or as a guide for those seeking to start working out of their own shops.

Thank you for sharing. I have some questions:
    1. What were the dimensions of the steel stock you stated with?
    2. Why didn't you flared the heel of the knife until you had already forged your bevels?

Where do you buy your ferric chloride? How much for a gallon? Also, do you dilute it? Or buy it diluted?

You make it look easy. I would have gone thru half a tank of propane, and stock reduced handle/ricosso transition w a grinder, and it would still b a turd compared to the lovely bullet you just created

And most importantly, before you get started is for me going over the process before even get it hot. So I know, all my tools were there and you gotta hit it as fast as you can with the amount of heat you're putting in. Always do rehearsal before you start to forward that way. You know where everything's at. Great video

Basically just utilizing the heat as fast as you can too save fuel
