thank you so much very well done i would be willing to donate a one time amount to help you out if there was a option for that. But the monthly sub, just is not for me. I think your missing out not having a simple tip button / send a one time custom payment on patreon if that's possible. just saying

Usually don't comment on videos but I have to say, the comment you made around the 36:45 mark about not having to memorize everything is some of the best advice out there. Really takes a weight off of your shoulders when you're just starting out 👍
Thank you man! Really appreciate it and think it's important to focus on learning the knowledge not memorize things at your fingertips
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I am a total noob to Linux. So when they give you the lesson and explain commands but ask you questions that are totally not relating is very hard. Thank you for explaining the process you go through to get the answers.

Thank you so much for this video. Things got a lot clearer
Very happy to help!
Very clear guide and walkthrough. Started my Cybersecurity journey month ago love your stuff!
Appreciate that!
Thank you for the walkthrough that you do. You're very informative and comprehensive. It's just like you said it's just the logistics of it.i know a lot of it but there's just some little things I need to remember and your a big help with that..thank you

Very good video!
I was a little frustrated at the question "what is the home directory of the user", because a legitimate answer should be "/home" That's always the "home directory"! In 1999, I got a Debian 2.0 CD, the first bootable Linux CD (you had to boot from floppy and copy CD content to hard drive before that. -Years before the image got put on the internet, so yes, the internet image is going to be 2007, not 98 or 99. Also the m68k version came out much later than i386) This is a clumsy mistake, probably not a big deal for 99% of users, but it makes me question if I want to spend money on the more advanced courses. PS I corrected school standardized school exams as a seasonal job, this is the kind of thing we'd give credit to students for a poorly worded exam question.
Appreciate the insight!
thanks a million. Dale Got Hulk Hands!
the point of the cubes is "gamifying" the exam, exactly the same way games, especially smartphone games, are made addictive for users. You might think it's messed up as a professional exam price, but it is "state of the art" way to maximize income, especially as many of their students will probably never work professionally in computer security, (yes bug-hunting is a possibility, but that's usually not a decent income) It also let's people try without putting too much money up front, which I appreciate. I don't like it as an entire certification price structure, but it's not just a choice they've made by "mistake". It's very deliberate.
I've talked about that specifically in my videos. I know it's very intentional. That's what I don't agree with. They don't care a lit progressing the profession they care about profit.
Thanks for this
HTB academy really needs to fix this. The instance that is spun up on the browser page, after ssh into it, gives totally different version and working directories... Which means the answers are technically wrong on the page.
Hopefully they are updating these issues.
thank god he made a video
Thank you Very helpful
Thank you! If you ever have any questions please feel free to hop on the discord
Great Vid!
Appreciate it!
Great Video
Thanks!
awesome . please make videos for other modules also
I'm trying to work with htb so I can!
Outstanding work. This was a great instructional on Linux, but the "Filters" page was a buzz-kill. If not for this video, I'd still be wracking my brain, which takes away from the instruction material and the lesson to learn.
Thank you!
i think crystal modules are hard but it is worth it if you come back and do revision. at first its difficult linux fundamentals but as you go across the content you just go along with the flow
I would somewhat agree with you to break them down into smaller sections basically but HTB is not for people who just started and its by design i would guess.
Can you make video on Introduction to networking from Hack The Box
Please make it
If it's tier 0 I can
@@stuffy24 I don't really know what is tier in this. I am new
If you check it and try to make a video with an explanation it will mean a lot to me because I don't totally understand while reading if someone explains it to me it helps a lot.
I have watched your other hack the box video I like it that's why I am asking for your help so if you can please try.
Thank you 💖🙃.
@talhakhatib9514 I understand and appreciate it but hack the box bans people if they make a video on anything other than tier 0
@@stuffy24 okk bro check if it's possible then try.
I follow your vids as im reading the modules under the navigation module i get a different index number for "Sudoers" using ls /etc -ia .... i get index numbers starting 13 instead of 14
Most likely it's changed since this video was released
@@stuffy24 thank you for your response. I figure it out, i was just not logged in as the htb-student using SSH. Right after that i printed the index numbers and gave me a whole new set of digits. Thanks again and keep up the great content man.
im confused, do i have to download vmware and open htb academy/linux through that? when im using htb and spawn the instance i cant access mozilla (it wont load) and im having trouble logging in ssh. im brand new to this im defintely missing something ...
I would read through there how to access to fully understand but I would say do tryhackme until your more comfortable with it. It's much more friendly
@@stuffy24 🙏🏼 thank you, I’ll give it a try.
At 22:33 why "sudo" isn't a good answer? I think I don't even understand the question properly. At the list above it says: sudo = Execute command as a different user. I'm confused.
Sudo gives admin privileges. su is switch user. They are different commands. They are asking what you need to use with su to run commands as a different user. So for instance su otheruser --command whoami would run the whoami command as otheruser and not you. Does that make sense?
@@stuffy24 Yeah. Thank you. I will follow this video. Not easy. :D
the problem is that the machines on htb got update and almost everything changed on the courses but the answers are the old ones like these in youre vid. i followed you setp by step and put in what i got but it was false
I think the HTB academy is a little weird at times. a lot of lessons like the listening on the target system at 1:07:46 is never talked about on my academy it never mentioned at any point about netstat or what IPv4 is or how to use ps. I think they change all of the educational teachings and keep the questions even when they get rid of certain modules.
That actually would make a lot of sense as to why you see that!
Completely agree. Feels a little frustrating to hit that question and when I search forums for help, there are things talking about netstat and ss that I haven't seen mentioned at all in the lessons. I don't mind solving a problem, but it's hard to wrap my head around why we're using something that I haven't seen yet or how I would have known to use that at all - if I hadn't looked it up.
@@Over_Xelis agreed this is why I don't use HTB as much as tryhackme for videos Because it feels like they are still working out kinks unfortunately!
what software you downloaded to open the terminal without having to start the instance?
I did start the instance. I just used my personal machine to ssh to it
Great content, one question because i have some issue with the HTB Academy, i run a VM with Kali Linux installed, i can download the OpenVPN file, but i have issue when try to connect via ssh with the user and pass. It is because of Kali Linux ? Do i need to run the Parrot Linux ? don't want to recognize the password. Don't know what I'm doin wrong

Kali Linux should work. I just use parrot bc I like it better. If you hop in the discord we can probably trouble shoot it with screenshots

@@stuffy24 Thank you so much for your time and reply/consideration. I appreciate you not having taken it the wrong way for i truly didnt have ill intent rather it be a constructive criticism. If i may; i feel that it wasnt justf what you were saying/teaching rather also, how. What do i mean, it seemed like you were stuck between a rock and a hard place and wasnt sure wether to cater to audience 1= noobs , audience 2 = advanced audience 3 = intermediate audience 4 = all the above. Hi where did you get the password from, to log into the Ssh shell at around 15.30 in the tutorial ?
The module gives you the information you need. Make sure to read especially down by where you launch it.
What is the name of the config file that has been created after 2020-03-03 and is smaller than 28k but larger than 25k? LOL! I ran outta instances. Stuck on this one.
I'll have to go back and check because they changed this one
@@stuffy24 thanks but I finally got it. Thats the only thing I don't like about HTB, they halfway explain things then change the answers on the exams by a few points when its an exact science. I blew thru the intro, networking, Security Incident Reporting and Linux. Now Im working on Stack based buffer overflows in Linux. Last question I'm stuck on is "Load AppArmor profiles managed internally by snapd" as the answer".thanks in advance
@@stuffy24 the answer is 00-mesa-defaults lol
What is grep - E doing in the final part?
Grep -e searches using the extended regular expression. Basically if you use just grep and you have something like { in it that will not be part of the search unless you use the -e because it thinks your trying to interact not search

You should dig more into the answers. There are guys coming from zero knowledge on server/protocols/ totally new to hackthebox and the academy is not really good at explaining things. If you think can't include explanations at least point at resource or other videos.
I def understand, with hack the box and tryhackme etc there is an assumed amount of knowledge. They are assuming these are people wanting to be hackers which means they expect atleast a basic fundamental skillset. I understand that's frustrating but I like your idea that if we don't have time to include an explanation I will give resources in the descriptions and things. I appreciate the suggestion!
