    Other tip from my Brother in Nebraska on chains that wear out fast, check out the sprockets. A worn sprocket will wear out a chain quickly.

    • @mikepaul3959
      @mikepaul3959 2 часа назад +2

      Sprockets should ALWAYS be replace when replacing a chain - (not that most people actually do)! A (even slightly) worn sprocket will make the new chain seek a longer pin to pin distance, prematurely stretching the new chain. May be important for that light duty chain the sees so much stress.

    • @mikepaul3959
      @mikepaul3959 Час назад

      clarification: chains do not really stretch. The side links stay the same - the pins & bushings wear and the link holes enlarge.

    Get the proper chain breaker tools! The bulk chain is a LOT more reasonable than the premade lengths. 5:54

    For mouse deterrent, we’ve had good luck with full size pine cones and dryer sheets. In my 4066r deere that sits unused all spring, summer, fall, i put a dryer sheet in each vent and a couple pine cones on the floor mat. Machine only gets used in the winter for snow removal with a metal pless plow, inverted blower and have never had a mouse in the 5 years we’ve had it.

    Chains: In the sawmill that I have had contact with , from memory we would take say 100 links, pull it tight and thew measure the length. Then if it was 81x it has a pitch of 2.609", times that by 100 and compare the percentage difference.Any more that 6% and it would be binned and replaced. Just a helpful guide for you.
    Cheers

    First of all, let me say that I worked for Deere for 36 years so familiar with lots of things. The company that builds the residue management systems (choppers) are very diligent in building a high quality product. I am guessing that Deere found another supplier to make those knives cheaper and the is when the problem started. And, back in the Dark Ages, I was a mechanic for a seed corn producer and constantly battled roller chain issues in the mechanical detasslers’ final drives. I feel the pain.

    After grinding off rivets on chain, lay flat and use a sharp chisel between side plate and inner link ,one hit with hammer and side plate flies off. Way faster than air chisel.

    When you replace roller chain if you use 60H chain ratlher thasn normal 60 your repairs between replacements will be O. I use to have trrouble wiith roller chains but switched to H chains the sides are a lot heavier make sure if you need repair links they are always H also.

    You should look into Ozone generator for the smell issue in your hardware. I know car guys use them in some cases to get bad smells out of cars. there are some dangers with it but its widely used in cars for cleaning as far as I understand. Maybe someone with more time using one can offer more insight
