mistakes were made That's not true, I've worked in retail and so many people are clueless and just stand there waiting for you to tell them which is the best and what you should buy.
Chris Merrick then you go to them say if there is anything i can help you with let me know. Leave it at that. Almost everyone i have ever met hates when people bug them trying to sell stuff. Are you sure these people you are "helping" really want your help? Do you perceive them as someone who is lost and need to be sold something? Maybe that is just your thoughts and not the thoughts of the people you are "helping"
I am in retail myself and I strongly disagree with "people don't want help and want to buy things on their own". Maybe if you're at the grocery store, but that's it. 80% of my sales come from helping the customer with knowledge on the product and what they didn't know themself. Unless they already know what they want, they want your help *if they're actually planning on purchasing from you instead of wasting your time*. No, "well let me know if i can help you. thanks", does not work if you plan on being more than a half ass worker (which from the looks of it you might be in your personal occupation). High spirits, confidence, and showing your customers that you want to help them is what sells a product if it doesn't sell itself already.
It's a freaking furniture store. I don't want to be harassed by a worker if I'm trying out sofas. I want to sit there for a few minutes to determine if my ass likes it, not be stared down and have to deal with sales talk.
Davinder Dhuhrhe yeah and the attempts at making an application to a minimum wage job sound like a life changing "career opportunity" where they have "personality tests" in a search for the perfect candidate
Davinder Dhuhrhe A lot of discrimination. The good news, is that this earthly life is not for ever and the bad news is that we got to be patient and happy with what we have.
@@giftapfel The idea of a minimum wage is actually pretty bad news for low income people. In a nutshell a minimum wage artificially inflates certain jobs to appear as if they will support a person beyond what the job is actually worth. This can mislead some people into settling for jobs that are dying off or which are best suited for high school students or motivated retirees. If there were no minimum wage, then businesses that paid too little would struggle to find people to work for them and those which paid better would find enough staff in no time. A living wage cannot be safely demanded from a job that isn't worth the living wage.
@@matthewmosier8439 I understand your point but i think there would still be people desperate enough to work those low paying jobs and people would be abused.
I once worked 28 years for one of the largest retailers in the US with over 500 stores back in the 80s. The very first day the only owner came to our location, I was only a warehouse employee in charge of sweeping and mopping the floors all day. We knew he was coming so I had a plan. When he entered the warehouse I had found the worst looking broom I could find and when he came by my to say hello as he would always do to every one that worked for him, he told me the floors looked very good. My responce. Thank you, but they would look awesome if I had better brooms. He just looked at me and walked away. The manager got all over me after he left. But a week later we had all new brooms and mops. And a message from the owner for the manager to move me out of the warehouse and into training for management. I had only been there for 2 months. A year later I was off the salesfloor and new assistant manager, 2 years later a manager and 7 years later regional manager for 16 stores, until The owner died and his son sold the business. I decided I did not want to work for anyone else and retired from the retail business. So, get to know your owners and bosses and always stand out from the others is my advice.
Annabelle You missed HER point. She’s saying that even if one of the managers or any staff/customers recognize him then his whole undercover thing is busted. Even just adding a mustache might be enough for people to not notice the CEO. But managers and higher ups will notice and notify their employees quick to act good if he walks in there without a disguise.
I am in agreement with Gian that they did a lot of work to his face, however "and a whole *another* face" is not perfect English at all. At the same time, however, ilyjax is certainly in no position to make comments like that when he starts of by saying "First of all" and then lists no subsequent points to the first. He also uses "than" rather than "then" and there is no need for his first full stop.

Eduardo Castillo and sometimes, that 'anything' includes some bit of silence to the customer so as to allow then peace of mind when choosing their good or service.
This is Harvey Norman in Australia. I used to work there throughout late high school and university. Lots of old people came in to just chit chat without ever buying anything. We had strict sales targets and would get scolded for not meeting them if we didn’t achieve these targets. Rather than missing out on potential sales by staying with a man who says “I don’t know what I want” we’d usually tell him to ask us if he needs help. The boss would also tell us to not waste time with window shoppers. Everyone made minimum wage plus commission which was 0.6% of total sales. Once a year, this guy (Gerry Harvey) or another out-of-touch executive would visit, complain that we’re not busting ass and threaten our boss to take the franchise back if we don’t improve. We would lose our commission for the following month when we didn’t achieve our sales targets in a month. I even heard rumours that a nearby store had sales strike targets - where the boss would look at the security cameras, count how many people walked into the store and then come up with a percentage of how many sales were made. This old turd also lobbied the government hard in the 2000s when eBay and online shopping was picking up for the government to tax the hell out of them. Horrible place to work.
I have my own carpet cleaning company & when i go to customers homes i always introduce my self as a technician, you would be suprised how mad people get when you try and explain something to them because they seem to already "know". But i love my customers and i make sure they are always satisfied with our work.

Why always extremes? You are not limited to be a top or a horrible employee. Even with minimum wage you should fulfill minimum standards. If you can't, leave. As much as the US labour market is toxic, the idea that minimum wage is an excuse to be as detrimental to your employer as you wish, is bullcrap. I worked for minimum wage delivering breakfast at awful hours (3am). Should I have crapped in every 5th bag and deliver half of them late because I am paid minimum? Would that be okay in your world? That first woman has ONE big assignment. And she didn't do that. She wants to be paid for standing in uniform for 8 hours.
TwoCentsforCharon that’s all they pay them for. The company is supposed to train their employees and I don’t mean a 30 minute video at orientation. You’ve got your head up your ass if you think the employee is solely responsible. I worked retail for a very long time with zero training and I was great with customers. The company shit on me all those years and the customers would ask for me by name. Wake up. The man became was able to continue being a billionaire because he paid his employees shit and offered them no benefits and gets upset when they don’t roll out the red carpet. They’re all the same. Money money money and why why why? Then this undercover bull shit. Maybe if he actually showed up and treated his employees like he gave even the slightest fuck about them they may work the harder.

Your comment is precisely what I meant when I said that some people presume that minimum wage is a justification for any behavior and action of the employee. Not even using basic communication skills you learn before freaking elementary school is one such behavior! If you really want to fight the American labor exploitation culture, don't use her as an example because she is exploiting the system as much as the companies. @@boooster101 your comment is so off the mark its unbelievable 😂 these people provided adequate service, one of them clearly needed more training which is an HR issue. Nowhere did I say that minimum wage is an excuse for sabotaging your employer but at the same time they cant expect 5 star service and reap the benefits with no return, especially seeing as the roles they fill aren't required to have an education they are entry level so thats what they should expect. In employment relationship is a mutual agreement that should benefit both sides. Training, opportunities to climb the ladder etc. Obviously HR should've trained the first girl properly, but everyone in that store did what was expected of them they still gave the service that they needed to. Was it 5 star? No. Does it need to be? No. I work in a min wage job (NZ is a bit different) but I love it more than my previous job which was paying $6 more, because even though the pay is shit the job is enjoyable, theres opportunities to grow, the environment is awesome etc. I worked in subway for a while and they expected 5 star even though it was min wage and the staff weren't trained properly and were often left alone at night without help. Do you see the issue there? They also refused to pay overtime which is illegal so everyone wanted to do the minimum work as legally that's all they had to do. If they want 5 star service without paying for it they need to offer better training and incentives, noone will work for free

What these owners should do if they really want to keep track of their employees is to send random people (always someone new) with a hidden camera on them to record how the employees treat the undercover shopper a few times a month in all their stores. That's how you keep track of things. That way the employee won't know who is undercover and who is not.

real people hate being told what to buy. hate being sold something. people want to be left alone and get help with what they want when they ask. that's it.
mistakes were made true true. When someone tries to sell stuff to me, I say "can I have it for free? do I get a prize? do I get payed?" & when they say no, I say "then never mind. (I knew their was a catch)."
CANNIBAL ಠ_ಠ that's hilarious, I will try that sometime.
mistakes were made That's not true, I've worked in retail and so many people are clueless and just stand there waiting for you to tell them which is the best and what you should buy.
High spirits, confidence, and showing your customers that you want to help them is what sells a product if it doesn't sell itself already.
the employees pretending to "realize" who he is when he took the makeup off is hilarious
He even laughs like a billionaire

Business owners take note: You Can't expect top notch service when you pay your employees crap.🤷♂️
How do you know they pay them shit.
@Chris Lawrence jealous of what? I'm just saying treat your employees with the respect that they deserve and pay them a living wage.
@el psy kuONGROO I mean im an ultra capitalist but I think everyone should get paid a fair wage..
I don't get why bosses think they have to go undercover. Most employees (99.9%) don't know or even care what their CEO looks like.
I do.
You missed the point. They want to go undercover to see how employees really do or don't do their job
@@SciFiGirl007 you missed HIS point.

He also uses "than" rather than "then" and there is no need for his first full stop.
their not terrible employees. customers just don't want to be bothered so your employees just know what to do with you. lol!
as a customer i don't want to be bothered as well. i'll ask if im interested on something.
arjay2002ph this is random but that's a really cute dog in your photo there. 😊
arjay2002ph as a sales person is YOUR JOB to talk to the customer to make A SALE. You must not know anything about this field of work. But I do know what your talking about.
arjay2002ph also he basically implied the question by saying i dont know what i want and the im thinking of buying one. Those are indicators to make a easy sell and show them what you have on sale.
Eduardo Castillo and sometimes, that 'anything' includes some bit of silence to the customer so as to allow then peace of mind when choosing their good or service.
He didn't buy anything. Looks like she read him correctly. lol
Wish world had more leaders like him who actually cared for quality of service their under teams are disbursing to prospective customers. Respect.
" I didn't even recognize him " Even though those words were fake, they still had no clue who he was. Lol

Regardless of the American minimum wage culture, if you aren't doing your job at all, why do you expect any pay?
Your comment is precisely what I meant when I said that some people presume that minimum wage is a justification for any behavior and action of the employee.
Not even using basic communication skills you learn before freaking elementary school is one such behavior!
If you really want to fight the American labor exploitation culture, don't use her as an example because she is exploiting the system as much as the companies.
Ps: you said that's what they are paying her for. I'd love to see the contract SHE SIGNED saying that.
They’re still going to “act” professional if cameras are in the store
I did the same thing for my Stores.... I've finished my make over and then realised "I don't own any Stores... "

What these owners should do if they really want to keep track of their employees is to send random people (always someone new) with a hidden camera on them to record how the employees treat the undercover shopper a few times a month in all their stores. That's how you keep track of things. That way the employee won't know who is undercover and who is not.
