This score is awesome because it's so unique. Most films nowadays use orchestral scores. Nothing wrong with that, but an electronic-driven score such as this one is just so refreshing. That plus the seventh tone that Price keeps using and all the other sound effects just makes this score a truly Oscar-worthy soundtrack.
I love the fact you say it's not an orchestral score but more an electronic one. If you listen closely, you'll hear a LOT of orchestral instruments in this score ( even the seventh tone you talk about, is sometimes performed by trombones and basses/cellos) .Cellos short notes, strings clusters, trills, tremolos, Strings bartok pizz ( that sound we hear between 4:00 and 5:00 which's the player hitting the instruments with his bow but not playing any note ) Brass, trumpets can be found also in a lot of tracks. There are of courses electronics sounds, and the orchestral instruments are often electronic modified. But the base of this score is clearly orchestral to me.
Yes, it does feature orchestral instruments but the orchestral elements, but that hardly qualifies as orchestral. The orchestral instruments were recorded individually or in small groups whereas true orchestral scores feature a larger ensembles that record collectively.
2.0 Films Its still an orchestral score, just not a traditional orchestral score. Some interviews i have read - it was still recorded at Abbey Road, with a conductor, and a orchestra.... with I guess alot of stuff that was tweaked and processed afterwards. Either way, it doesnt really matter, bottom line is it sounds awesome!
I like that Steven Price was able to combine the organic sounds with the electronic sounds so seamlessly and blend them so well that they sound one and the same. Sometimes it's hard to tell if what I'm listening to is a real instrument, a real instrument that's been modified in some way, or an electronic sound completely of his own creation.
This is one movie that literally took my breath away, and I must admit it was mostly due to the way the soundtrack accompanied the suspense on the screen.
i love the movie too!!! Watched it twice, one in 3D....the soundtrack is breathtaking, esp the part where Sandra's character is blazing down to earth , and we see parts and pieces of the broken satellite blaze through the skyline
Calvin Fyk And I have such a lovely feeling when listening to that under the music you want to write books! I'm not kidding!I seriously wanted to write something !

This soundtrack was by far the best original composition of 2013. It's almost unfair to call it a musical soundtrack because it incorporates the film's sound effects within its structure. I can see the movie as I hear it and it's a wonderful experience.
My friends hated this movie and I really don't understand why. It's a movie depicting the utter hopelessness of being at the mercy of FUCKING SPACE. I guess there wasn't enough explosions or sex scenes for them.
they didn`t call the dead journalist in Iraq and waited for Brad Manning to say it to the world. That may not happened, and you can`t trust any british agent.
Masterpiece. One of the best movies of 2013. The acting is absolutely tremendous Sandra Bullock just gave life to this movie, the experience unique that's what I expect from cinematography and what I also love about it. This movie can make you feel the need of air, the need of going back on earth, it literally makes you at times feel like you are lost in space long way away from home. Time just flew over the window with this amazing experience because it's more than a movie. It's a one in a lifetime experience.
The movie and the soundtrack are simply incredible...seeing it at the theater had me gasp for air, tense up at the edge of my seat, tear up my eyes...I wish he would have worked a little more on the dialog delivery, they were slightly cheesy and forced at time, still a wonderful movie, I've watched it 3 days in a row lol
one of the things i liked about gravity was that it did have a soundtrack they didn't have any ambient music whenever they where out in space which made it more realistic and atmospheric especially when the guy opens the door when the girl starts dreaming
One of my favorites scores outside of the old classic movie scores, Star wars, star trek, Indiana Jones, etc. Point is as a artist and writer, listening to this entire album after watching the film in 3D help me shape one of my most favorite series of stories I've ever created. Not saying I'm some fancy writer, but I greatly appreciate how well this score was put together. Alright I said too much ....this is some good shit
If several key communications satellites are destroyed in space, all commercial cellular communications as well as wireless networks that operate by satellites would all be down and out of service. Land line internet communications would still operate to some degree but it would be a serious scenario. And the Russians know this.
Thanks for putting this together! The suspenseful parts were my favourite bits! The whole soundtrack is great really...definitely the best I have heard all year and for a long time...the movie was ok...amazing special effects of course and it was shot very well (albeit for some on the nose moments) but the characters were very generic and spouted a lot of clichés...shame...but still good...but the score is in a league all its own and goes really well with the tone of the film.
WOW!! That's GREAT!! Must have played this one over and over...'Course I work 2nd shift and I get off at two am and i got some shot beers with a shot of Jack on the side...This SONG comforts me after a long night! Thanks!
Great soundtrack, it has the right amount of power and mistery that a space movie needs. Remarcable job. It is a great movie too and I am glad How Alfonso Cuaron made us see how a movie should be made, with the real mexican way of doing things. I'm proud of this motherfucker. I really know that is not the best movie ever, but it has the imagination and dreams of one of my fellow mexicans... I'm Really proud.
I liked gravity but It was overrated when saw it the effects blew me away then I saw 2001 a space odyssey and said the cinematography and effects was better in 1969 than 2013 in some aspects not all because gravity looked amazing but everyone in a while it looked a bit cgi but then interstellar came out and made it look outdated and while in gravity the effects were great the story was simplified that a lobotomized 2 year old could get it and it got old quick on repeat viewings because all it was was Sandra bullock breathing hard the entire time it got old and it's not rewatchable and the scenario repeated it self but interstellar was the whole package amazing cast an acting all round every frame shot was breathtaking I was emotionally invested the whole way and even if you don't like the movie there is atleast something you could enjoy from it it's like eating a cinematic buffet of great acting story characters action suspense effects smart dialogue and pretty underrated in my option but it does have a few nitpicks but other than that it's the best sci fi film since 2001
Listening to this on Audio Technica ATH M50x and it feels like sitting in cinema. Only surround isn't there, rest the bass is as punchy as you'd get in great quality cinema.

The soundtrack is awesome, I think in many ways it made the movie.
that movie got me sooo dizzy =p
you know whats better than this? interstellar
both scores were fantastically tense tbh
The intense part in Interstellar would hands down be the docking scene. Equivalent to the starting scene of Gravity in the suspense category.
Agreed!
Interstellar best
I think that is the Sandra Bullock´s acting of her life
Extreme Suspense :o:o
