I just made this and am pumped with how great he looks. I only bought 1 drop cloth as they are $16. I had a roll of plastic table cloth from my wedding so I used it for the second layer and head. Box liner is $10 so for now I just got 1. I hope using that stuff on plastic is ok and will turn out the same. It definitely is giving it a heavy layered look. I'm going to let it dry and see how it looks then will head back to the store for 3 more cans of box liner.
it can be moved and stored, it gets firm but not super hard. It can be layed down to store but be careful not to crush the hood. Or just make a base plate for it and store it standing up.
Monster mud in cheap. I am a firm believer in the "Good , Fast, and Cheap- pick two" theory of prop building. I hate storing and having to seal monster mud statues so I started experimenting with the bed liner. Buy the more expensive cans, the cheap stuff does not go as far per can.
I've often wondered if that (bedliner spray) stuff could be used to waterproof and I also wondered if it would melt plastic or styrofoam and you answered both burning questions. Very greatful for your contributions to the home haunters out there. Thanks, as a home haunter you're a rock star with your ideas! I may try using that stuff on some flat panel tv boxes to make waterproof instant large tombstones.
Use black 99 cent primer as a base coat... you will get more bang for your buck with the expensive truck bed liner. I use spray bed liner for absolutely everything!
I made this statue and really thought I'd mess it up or it wouldnt look as good at nite. I was amazed at how many kids and Parents also that where more frightened by the statue than of me dressed as a Reaper with Sythe and skeletal face. Thanks for making this video and now I must build an army of these guys. I also like the fact that when storing away, all I did was fold the canvas and the head with pipe attatched on a shelf requiring no more than 2 square feet of space. Thank you Thank you .
LOVE THIS! So fast and inexpensive. Like how this guy gets to the point and this not long and drawn out. Never thought about using truck bed liner, hhmmmm, now I have another use for it other than using it for my teenagers truck!
I'm glad you choose this for a video. I just had my wife yesterday asking about how to fill out her caped figure. The corrigated pipe is just the ticket ! You did a great job.
This is amazing. I will be using this on my house haunt for beggars night this next year. Excellent tutorial; rather dummy proof! This leaves even a way to be added to it if someone wants to get even more creative. Thanks for the post!
Just sinking into all your videos again. Tis the season and finally having a garage over apartment life is a big help haha. Looks great. My kind of crafting making something from spare parts or just a quick run through an alley on garbage day to grab what you can.
Thanks Allen!! I love your ideas. I've got two of these created so far. Hoping to make another one for an actor. I dyed the fabric black in a big tub before starting. Then after assembly, used about 5 cans of .99 cent black spray paint to darken things up, followed by 1 can of truck bed liner for waterproofing on the head and shoulders. I figure that cut my cost by $15 - 20 each. Hopefully they hold up as well as yours.
I made one today and will be making a second one for our haunt this year. Love this idea. I'm on a tight budget however so did mine a little different. I used the same support idea you used as well as the 4x12 tarps from Harbor Freight. In order to save a little money I used a skull from the $1 store, aged it of course..lol, for the head, cardboard for the shoulders, 1 lg can of heavy spray starch to stiffen it up a bit and 3 .96c black spray paint. Looks fantastic. Thanks
I have everything ready to go. Am using a metal rod, and the used PVC over that. I tried to use cardboard for shoulders, but didn't look right, so my boyfriend is going to pick up tubing. Already got great comments on the two I am making. Will post pix. These are just awesome as well as all your videos :-) Thanks for such a great idea. The two will be my greeters :-)
Very cool idea. It's a lot if work and takes a lot of different products but in the end it comes out excellent and is well worth the work. And very cheap if you consider how much a thing like this, already made, would cost to buy and this may even be studied and last longer than one you'd purchase. Thanks so much for sharing your idea. I'll have to try it sometime and will show this to my sister and niece because they're always looking for do it yourself idea's and I'm sure they're going to love this one.
this is wicked. welldone sir. the green paint for the aged statue look set it over the top. had me thinking doctor who statues. only move when you arent looking. dont blink. again. wicked.
I love your videos! You have a way of explaining things that make an amateur like me feel like I can make super cool, impressive looking props!!! Thanks so much! Love RUclips Wednesday's!!
I found a hockey drying rack at a yard sale today that stands almost 6ft tall. I'm gonna attempt to make this today using it as my base. I don't have access to get a foam manikin head but will try paper mache instead. Thanks for the video, all your stuff is awesome!!
An 'A Plus'. Much appreciated. Great project and even more valuable, these techniques can go into by box of tricks for other projects. I'm not artistically inclined so like the construction feel to this...great results without the need to draw, paint, etc.
Thanks for posting this awesome video! I'm trying your method this year, and creating a scene with 4 or 5 children in white cloaks surrounding an alter. Saturday morning can't get here fast enough!
This is so awesome. I am going to make a few of these this year. I will probably make more each year until I have about 15 to 20 of them. Thank you for sharing.
Very cool. Thanks for sharing. The box and tubing give just enough of a human form and stays true to a Gothic figure. Best of all IT'S WATER PROOF, great for the NW.
Thanks for the tip with the painting drop cloths, I never thought of that. My son and I always decorate the yard for Halloween. We will try and duplicate what you just did. Great job!
For leather face I would use a shammy. It has a great look and a non irritating texture to it. But pleather is fine also- real leather would look better- but you can heat gun pleather and get some cool effects.
Thanks I will check out the bedliner spray. Yea I was planing on it being Rigid foam. I am still thinking about this and planing. I am thinking I am going to use the 2-3 inch foam you get at the hardware store.
So i started this today and so far it looks awesome..the only thing left to do is to spray it with the bed liner and paint..thank you so much for sharing this..i really wish you could post pics on here so i could should you how it came out..plz keep youtube wed coming cos ive have seen everyone so far and they are all amazing.
Thank you for this. Your channel is Amazing. I love watching you work.I like dislike, get creative..fun. I think ok maybe? Or I'll try something different. You have re awakened my creative side. I cannot praise you enough. Thank you.
The speed in which you do these props never ceases to amaze me! This is on my list to try this week.

my wife made 5 of this and put around a coldrin love it thank you
awesome, very cool!
That poncho comment was awesome. I'm involved in a lot of orc and monster costumes and the basis of almost everything is indeed the poncho.
I need t see your yard when its done for all hallows this is amazing.

Yeah, this is pretty uplifting. The last few I made i used automotive undercoating spray $4 a can and worked just as well (but needed another coat).
You never fail to Amaze Allen, that is a project that will be added to the too do list....Thanks Buddy
it never ceases to amaze what you manage to accomplish with these ordinary items.
Use black 99 cent primer as a base coat... you will get more bang for your buck with the expensive truck bed liner. I use spray bed liner for absolutely everything!

Mahalo for showing this great way to make it. It will make my yard better this halloween.
Thanks Allen!!

I get mine at an auto-parts store. Pep boys, but any auto parts store should have it. I would love to see it on feathers I bet it would look great!
The very most easy graveyard statue to do! ! Thank you very much 👍
Please keep me posted on how it turns out. I love that you are testing the concept but changing a few of the materials.
Another awesome vid... it's amazing how sinister it looks at the end. You would never think it's made out of a normal box under there.
Thanks!
Very cool I like the way you cut the tarp aka the hood. Nice to see some great ideas. Thanks
Looks really good. Easy to follow instructions. Thanks for the idea.
These are awesome! My husband followed your tutorial to make one a few years ago, and it turned out great. Really creeped out the neighbors :-)
yeah! screw those neighbors!
@@StiltbeastStudios Nah, I like these neighbors; they were just a little freaked thinking there was someone hiding in our bushes.

I noticed that too- It looked really cool. Glad you liked it.

Wonderful as always. Your a true expert on the art of haunting.
An 'A Plus'.
Much appreciated. Great project and even more valuable, these techniques can go into by box of tricks for other projects. I'm not artistically inclined so like the construction feel to this...great results without the need to draw, paint, etc.
+Tom Aaron Exactly! I really try to show techniques that you can apply to other things.
Thanks for posting this awesome video! I'm trying your method this year, and creating a scene with 4 or 5 children in white cloaks surrounding an alter. Saturday morning can't get here fast enough!

Yeah Scream Entertainment used bedliner on their huge facade this year! Love this Allen because its faster and less messy than monster mud!
That is so near ! Thanks for sharing 💕
Great job!
Awesome instructional video!! Thanks for sharing, I'm def doing this!

You can do it!
I recently found you and am so glad l did lm a very creative person and Halloween is just around the corner so thx a million
Omg, I luv those characters.
For leather face I would use a shammy. It has a great look and a non irritating texture to it. But pleather is fine also- real leather would look better- but you can heat gun pleather and get some cool effects.
This was by far the coolest thing you have done. Just think of the faces on the folks you can scare with a couple off theese sculptures^^
I would love to see pics of your build, Why did it end up costing $120? I used a wig head in the video for the head, what did you use?
Coo! Never seen the Rustoleum version. I'll give the bed liner a try.
Dollar Tree has big bags of sheet moss for one dollar!
Great job . U r so talented.!!!
Thank you so much 😀
Thanks I will check out the bedliner spray. Yea I was planing on it being Rigid foam. I am still thinking about this and planing. I am thinking I am going to use the 2-3 inch foam you get at the hardware store.
Thank you very much, this gave me great ideas for a graveyard statue in our haunted carport we will be building this next weekend I can't wait!
+Amy Van Kirk very cool, glad it helped!
Love your videos! You make everything seem effortless!!! I better start prepping for Halloween!!!
cool, yeah I try to throw one or two techniques into every vid. I'm glad you are applying one to another project.
Absolutely amazing! Thanks for your tutorials. I'm definitely making a couple of these this year!
+Elise Brown email me pics! stiltbeast@gmail.com
i just emailed them to you.
cool!
I would use the truck bedliner spray. If the foam is rigid foam then seal with latex paint first.
This gave us a lot of great ideas.
I would love to see how those stones turn out!
Brilliant! I'm so gonna make one of these this year!
Great video, glad to see you back!
Thank you for this. Your channel is Amazing. I love watching you work.I like dislike, get creative..fun. I think ok maybe? Or I'll try something different. You have re awakened my creative side. I cannot praise you enough. Thank you.
