I appreciate this video. Was already on the fence about the Niord, due to the last phase of the Dockyard grind. Happened to pick up a Karl XIV Johan from a Santa crate, so after watching this video, I'll definitely skip the dockyard grind and save the doubloons.
Good choice. Karl Johan is waaaay better, i play her as a secondary/torp brawler build and its amazing. I love brawling. Got my Karli XIV Johan in exchange event, I gave Yoshino (sucks, not my playstyle) and i think that was my best decision ever during this year. BTW: Congrats for Karl that You got from santa crates. The only ship I got was...Rio de Janeiro :/

They realy arent that bad tho its 2 hours day for a week if you have decent games less if you are very good sure that is a lot of time but not as dramatic as a lot of people say imo

i find the most success with johan in ops and asymmetric where i use a hybrid torp and secondary build, i dont buff the main guns at all and it does extremely well with fires per minute, to be honest my only complaint with karl is that when you get focused you more often than not have atleast one torp launcher per side if not more perma'd which sucks
Hey brother. As a dd main and shima main. If you want to improve your torps. I suggest spreading them more. I usually do narrow spread and launch one right beside the other to make a "wall". I also usually try to predict a slow down and turn in.
I got Johan from Santa Mega crate last Christmas and had few very satisfying matches (In Brawls). But I went for 2 payed phases of dockyard for Njord. Probably FOMO affected me, but its finally relatively cheap pr ship to what WG selling directly or what chance and what drops are now in Santa crates. Otherwise I am against buying directly in game, just prem (not needed for last 2y and for next 1+y) so I buy those Santa Mega containers. This year WG seems to activate Priority drop list. I can't complain on number of ships dropped but the quality? 😅 👉 Theseus (new), Rodney (new), Montcalm (new), Tiger 59 (kaboom), Molotov. Jupiter 42(new), Hyuga (1of 3 last missing for community tokens), Orion 44(new), Picardie)(new), Velos(crap). Just to mention I got all currently available coal ships, missing now only 63 from Santa crates). That would be buying crates worth of 1000 USD +VAT) I am not that whale. 😅 The point is WG seems they gonna go refresh the Santa crates every year making sure you stimulated to buy the rare ships directly if you want them. But its easy to pick some decent ship (from what I got already) for any match.
Came after a 1 year pause and got the Johan in a container. Funniest match was full uptier with 3 superships, Being the British BB, Anapolis and Some DD, both on my flank and we had no DD on our side, so my flank was just kiting and somehow I managed to get 140k spotting damage. And then 2 DDs came into our spawn cap (was 2 brothers with 4 caps) and if it werent for the Hydro i would have surely died
I like my Johan better because of the secondaries and the hydro. If WG comes out with this BB tech tree like, I hope they give them good secondaries and hydro.
Another lack luster dockyard ship to not waste time on. Another Event pass not worth the gold. A sad Advent Calendar. Over priced X-mas boxes filled with empty promises and sadness. Wargaming being the Grinch for the Holidays, never gets old.
Don't gamble more than you are willing to lose. The Advent Calendar is free and has some nice things. I got a ship out of a super container. It really sounds like you overextended with the gambling, and that's coloring your view of everything else. There is no shame in stepping away.

This video is not the real represent of this ship... in real life you can't hit anything with those canons even within 10km's I bought it after watching the first video of potato quality it's not even close to how the ship looks when he plays it

Same boat as you, but every once in awhile I splurge after I try to get back in to the game. Disappointed everytime. Bought the santa crates for this year, nothing but trash in them.

Im still going secondary build and having great success. I just dont seem to be making the torp bb build work.

My only issue with the torps is how often they get destroyed. Its why I run secondaries on johan

No, you do not need to buff torpedoes, they are good enough and you are not a dd. You build for secondaries to be the modt effective.
