I'm in love with your serene lifestyle, and it's something I long for being surrounded by constant chaos and seemingly never-ending problems. Your videos help me feel calmer and more at peace and are great for lazy days or watercolor sessions. Love your work!!
They are not unfortunately. Usually a healthy laying flock lifespan is after their second laying year they are butchered for stew meat and a new batch is brought in. Some breeds or individuals will lay longer though. I’m personally a bit too sentimental to butcher my hens as they’re essentially pets.
@@beeerpup I think there has to be something wrong w/ a person for them to be OK w/ killing animals they've raised and bonded w/. I asked my husband about keeping egg hens, to which he brought up the fact that he'd never be able to eat chicken again at all, and I realized I was in the same boat. :/ So we might get ducks or geese, since we already can't eat those b/c of our habits making wild animal friends. Pecan supremacy- I march w/ the Waxnut Army.
@@BornRemainingnah I don’t think it’s necessarily true that there’s something wrong with people like that. It’s really all about perspective at the end of the day. There are some people who are able to value the circle of life and also show love to the animals in their care. To some people it’s a way of respecting the life an animal has lived. The circle of life and all that. Granted, I say this as someone who would be incapable of butchering animals that I raised myself lol.

The so called “circle of life” is just a flimsy justification to commit immoral act cuz nature. There are many things that are natural that the average person considers immoral, and butchering animals you’ve raised and/or bonded with (or animals in general outside of pure necessity) should be one of them. It’s dumb to base one’s moral compass off of a quote from the Lion King.

The guinea fowl in South Africa where I live are all black and white speckled, it's so interesting to see the fluffy white ones that have evolved for snow. They have the same crazed faces though

i loved seeing all your chickens! i really like naming my animals in games after foods or coffee drinks, so my favorite chicken was cappuccino! I hope they all are very happy :D question if you see this; how many eggs do you get from them per day do you get? i feel like if i had chickens i'd be excited for all the eggs and not having to buy them from the store hehe.

As somebody who lives in an area devoid of agriculture and farming im curious to know how you got your animals and how you got into having a little farm (was it inherited, did you move to have a little farm, what does it produce besides eggs, etc). I really hope so. Thankfully she seems to value their lives moreso than the average chicken keeper does, which I’m extremely relieved by. I was really afraid of having one of my new favorite RUclipsrs ruined, lol. Especially after I’ve had to severely limit who I watch ever since last October.
My favorite chicken the one in my belly. I grew up on a farm we didn't have chickens but our next-door neighbors 1/2mile away raised them usually once a week I would walk over for eggs if they didn't drop any off always had to look out for their rooster which absolutely was a flogging rooster eventually they got rid of him my dad bought him and showed me how to prepare chickens for the skillet now that I've gotten older I just buy eggs much less work but more expensive.

@@samellowery I have, actually. When I was a young girl my landlord’s rooster tore up my ankle. It was kind’ve my fault though, since I got into his face while trying to pet him.
My grandmother had the worst rooster possibly ever. When she was a kid, she had to go outside to the well pump for water, and just like she was afraid might happen, the rooster (let's call him Mr Satan) started chasing her. Mr Satan was the devil b/c he'd do this thing where he'd grab a beakful of skin on your foot, ankle or calf and twist it off. O-F-F off, twisted it t/f off. So Grandma starts running laps around the house and her mom and sister know not to open the screen door, and Grandma had to shout instructions to them each time she made a lap. Finally, they opened the door, she ran in, they slammed it behind her and they had "spicy" chicken for dinner. Don't feel bad for Mr Satan, he did that crap to anyone who looked smaller than a fully grown man and he didn't care if you were on the other side of the house from the hens. You're going to do one of these for your kitties soon, right?
No, I still feel bad for him. He was overtaken by hormones unfortunately, so it wasn’t necessarily his fault. Plus, if I knew someone was willing to butcher me I probably wouldn’t be to friendly either, lol.
