Really impressive, great video sir .. I note that the great felix immler gave your channel a glowing and well deserved recommendation... High praise indeed .
Have you done any videos about the magnifying glass. My uncle that taught me how to survive in the West Texas desert always carried one to start fires and to evaluate injuries and such as cuts.
Man this product is truly a life saver. If you were to break through ice and able to rescue yourself your first step to surviving hypothermia is to get a big fire going. I couldn’t imagine accomplishing this with a ferro rod or a lighter even after you’ve taken an icy plunge. This rig would definitely save your life if your motor skills were reduced. Thanks for sharing this James, it’s a really good one!
That is just too cool! I used a highway flare once. It worked, but certainly didn't burn for a half an hour! Thanks for the demo, I'm not sure I'd have believed the company without this video!
Wow what an excellent product! I thought I had seen just about every fire-starter around but this was totally new to me. With so many good products out there there is no reason for anyone who loves the outdoors to ever go without a comforting fire in an emergency. Thanks for showing us this!
Very interesting idea, especially for anyone with dexterity challenges or who hasn't yet developed their fire lighting skills. I think that you, Blackie Thomas, and Greencraft UK are my three favourite channels. Thank you.
Thank you for this video. I always carry a 30-minute road flare whenever I am heading into the woods, even if it is just a day hike. The product you demonstrated looks like a great replacement for the road flare: Better sized, more convenient to light with frozen fingers. I need to get some to put in each backpack and in the "rescue box" of each vehicle. Again, thank you for this video.
Is there anything y'all can't get at Canadian Tire? I've never been in or even close to one but I am amazed at all the RUclips videos over the years where the presenter or commenters have said this or that can be purchased at Canadian Tire. It sounds like a cool store. In the U.S. if a store is called 'XYZ Tire' then that means they sell, well, tires. Maybe related things like wheels, brakes, shocks and so on - maybe, but not necessarily. They probably aren't going to be selling camping gear and a million, other things.
Glad to know your breathing is OK! I saw that fire starter used on a camping video, but you really showed how well it works. Having one or more of these could save the life of anyone who spends time in the woods and has a chance of getting lost, caught by a blizzard, flood, needs to build a fire for signaling. I read about one man who got lost and was facing death after several days, when he found the dead body of another person who had gotten lost in the same area. It was at least a year old as I recall. In the corpse’s pockets he found a plastic bag with a few matches inside. He lit a tree on fire and the huge blaze brought help in a short time (they thought it was a forest fire) and saved his life.
Looks like the same principle as "highway flares". Highway flares can be found with different times. My Dad was a railroad engineer, and long burning flares were a part of the emergency kit that the train crews used. Thanks for the demonstration. Stay well & safe... Cheers.
Yeah that would definitely be a must carry item. And not just for the sake of starting a fire for its own sake. But to help people out when clean portable water is in short supply. So long as you have one of these and a container you can boil water in you’re almost guaranteed to have safe clean water to drink. One of these, a good supply of wood, and a restaurant sized stock pot can make you a supply of clean safe water that can easily last you for days.
@@WayPointSurvival I’d love your take on the Wobblies and other working class conscious people of the times. People they looked up to like Eugene V Debs (fellow Hoosier), Big Bill Haywood, etc. they fought countless battles against big corporations and many were traveling workers. In fact one of the most renowned figures is Cesar Chavez who helped unionize many migrant farm and agriculture laborers. Many a Hobo was a card carrying Wobbly (IWW Member, just like me). Regardless your personal take on what’s going on now I think it’s a great time to look back to and appreciate. Certainly the last time the working class had any fight in them. Love the content, I binged a ton and love it. If you’re ever up for a discussion on the topic let me know!
I carry a road flare in my pack for emergency fire starting. I also carry and old railroad flare that I believe will burn even under water, and I have used one to cut through a medal fence.
Great idea ! I am happy that you took the plastic debris and put it in your pocket. Plastic debris can poison nature for 300 years. One should clean up always any plastics. You gave the example.
I myself like hiking flares. Like a road flare just smaller. Ez to get going and will start a fire if needed. This looks very close and should work for the purposes.
Thank you for doing the silver wolves class. Health is getting to be an issue for some of us. I would really love to see some classes off of side by side or a four wheeler. That is the only way I really get around anymore and I’m sure that I am not the only one.
It's about time someone with a brain turned a road flare into a pack friendly outdoors fire starter. I carry 3 tinders and 3 ignition methods, it sounds like a lot but Vaseline cotton balls, Trioxane tabs, fatwood, a bic, a ferro rod, and and magnifying card are surprisingly light. I'll be adding this as a 4th method. It's overkill even if light....but never having to worry about being able to get a fire going is priceless.
Wet on the outside, dry on the inside, still will burn if you dry it as you are doing there, or you can cut into the wood to expose the dry material, and can keep heat on it to dry the barks and such, but that is IF you have dry tinder. I do that camping here in Texas, because of morning dew or over night sprinkles, before we get into camp. But I like the concept here. it is literally a flair, almost reminds me of he military thermite devices they used in the Gulf War to melt enemy guns and Damage Treads. Defiantly adding this to our backpacks and camp gear as a Last Resort/Emergency fire starter. I like the fact the device become not only the match, but the tinder and the initial fuel for the main fire. 30 Bucks for 6 is a good deal, and it is a no muss, no fuss way to get your fires up and running fast in emergencies. Plus my being 58, there is no telling when getting up and down will become an issue. LOL
That will be a great addition to a persons kit, whether in your pack, vehicle or even a snowmobile. Every ice fisherman and snowmobile rider should have one. Think how this would save after going in the water and you are shivering so much it is difficult to light a fire.
I just thought your inner pyro was coming out, thats why you were huffing an puffing, lol. Yes a great idea for definetly emergencys, like soaking wet, cold, snow country, could be a lifesaver. Thx for the vid James
Amazing! A fire-starting device that effective is priceless, regardless of cost , especially when your life is on the line! Thanks & may God bless you!
This is the same reason I carry the small emergency road flares. I’ve started alot or fires in snow, ice, rain with wet wood with miniature road flares.
Good content as always. A young guy solo canoeing with just a dog you actually described my thinking about fire starting. I figured I was wet, tired, and maybe hurt. So I carried road 2 flares. (Plus more common fire starters.) These might have been a better choice.
I'm always looking for redundancy in fire making items for my backpacks. These are usually already lightweight and apart from shelter and water, fire is one of the most important parts of camping, hiking or survival. It is one of the essential Cs, so another reliable method in an emergency is a good idea.
I saw an old man late 70s early 80s review these for his backyard BBQ pit. He has trouble with lighters and matches now and used one of these and he turned into a lil kid all excited seeing everything burn so fast. Amazing how it burns wet wood, I'd say it would work in rain.
Having allowed my hands to get so cold in the past that any dexterity was very limited as well as painful. Even traditional fire making methods were difficult and very challenging in order to warm hands and be able to perform needed tasks. I experimented with something similar, but certainly nothing as effective as this item. Thank you so much for introducing me. Continued Success.
Hi, About your addendum. I used to have really noisy breathing, The doctor called it a strider sound and that sounds a lot like you. It wasn't in my case a lung or other issue but a narrowed trachea. We did a bronchoscopy and they inflated it back to the proper size and now I'm nice and quiet again. FYI
My favorite is makeup removers with about 1 part kerosene to 5 part candle wax. Double boiler, melt, put kerosene in, soak them for 3 seconds, pull them out and let them cool
This is a great idea. Instead of immediate ignition, a 5 second delay before ignition after pulling the twine would make this a safer product. This would allow the user to move away from the initial spray of sparks.
I know it definitely defeats the purpose, but a good road flare will light anything in the rain, and they've never let me down.im gonna try the ones you recommend now,I'm surprised!

Try the upside down fire. Its a great low maintenance fire lay,. great for a survival situation.
Yes, that definitely works well!

Thank you so much for the donation and for watching the videos! I really do appreciate the support!
Great video. Blackie mentioned these, too. These can be purchased in Canada at Canadian Tire.
I've seen them, almost bought a pack but hadn't seen THIS review...

I hope the flares are cheaper than these things are lol

Pretty cool product! Easy peesy lemon squeezy. Like a mini Willie Pete... only much safer. Might throw 3 in my pack. 🤔
Excellent!
That is a great idea. Glad you answered a question about being ok.
Glad you liked it!
Definitely a little pricey, but you can't argue the convenience and reliability. I'll be adding them to my kits soon for sure.
Excellent!
You are so genuine and just love the video! Thanks!
Thank you so much!

That is cool. Thanks for the demo. I use DIY starters that work well with wet material. Keep up the awesome work. Stay safe. ✌️
Thanks, you too!
Thanks James. Seems like some sort of magnesium flare kind of thing. Pretty neat.
You're welcome! I'm not sure what's inside of it but it smells like fireworks when it begins.

I guess that's a good thing! However, some of these are not available in other countries as well depending on where you're trying to order them from.
Great item. Got a 6 pack (3 for my Solo stove, 3 for my kit).
Sounds great!
Looked dangerous lol. I like the fast fire stick
