I purchased a cheap inverter checker made by EDC. I tried it on one unit and only three leds lit up. I then tried it on a known good unit and none of them lit up. I assume it's because the output voltage is low when doing the transistor test and the tool also has internal resistors. I know it's three phase AC coming out, but does the Daikin checker require the leads to be connected precisely (U,V,W) as depicted on the tool?
Zorin Industries yes it does. The one I have is marked “U, V, W”. And if you have a system with more than one inverter, you need to disconnect it before testing. And you have to go to setting mode 2, and put it in inverter test mode (28 presses on VRV III).

We just inherited a housing with a bunch of these on the Roof. I'm not familiar with it.Very comprecated. I found a bad compressor. Tech support made us replace inverter and compressor.How much is this Tool?
Advance Cooling cost us $436, part number 999153T. Go to Daikinac.com and find the service manual that covers your models, and the way to check the inverter board is in there, it’s just very time consuming, but possible. For awhile the company we bought parts from (TMI in Chesterfield, MO) suggested replacing the inverter with a compressor, then they backed off of that ideology. If your system is getting an L8 error, I always clear the error and restart the system and listen to the inverters. If they draw 20 plus amps and sound rough, that’s a bad bearing, and usually the inverter had nothing to do with it. That’s usually caused by liquid getting back to the compressor and washing the oil off of that top bearing. You would then need to check your indoor units for bad EEVs or maybe adjust the fan settings to low-low in cooling mode when it’s satisfied.

One of the compressor had 5 meg. He said anything less than 100Meg is bad. He made us replace both inverter and compressor. I downloaded an app that made me go through steps to recover and then back on after replacing the parts. I contacted them to ask for the Next class on these unit cause I'm not familiar with it. But that tool would have help me determine if that inverter is bad
Mike Clark nope. The lights are in binary, from right to left, right being one, then 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, and 64. 28 would be lights 5, 4, 3. Daikin has an app that shows you this in slides, and it is very helpful, especially when you haven’t had enough coffee and don’t feel like thinking, lol!

I have found that it helps check the diodes faster than the manual way, but doesn’t insure a good board. We have had boards pass and then roast a compressor after replacing one. If you have an electrical failure on a compressor, it’s normally a good practice to replace the board. If you have a mechanical failure (bearing failure), the board is usually not the cause. Just my two cents.
The tester in the video is hard to find on the internet, but Refco makes one that is affordable, and our shop has started to carry them as an option. My Daikin inverter 1.5 ton ac compressor cuts off after around 20 seconds of turning on the ac and it keeps trying after every 3 minutes and keeps shutting down, but if I water the condenser coil before starting it runs without issues for couple of hours before having the same issue again ,the condensor coil and indoor evaporator coils are clean, the ac cools good when it works so doesn't seem to be an issue with gas pressure ,Daikin service guys wants to change the pcb and see if it works and I've been waiting for almost a month , hopefully someone can help me fix this during this lockdown. Checked for error codes doesn't report any error as well.
I would suspect a thermistor reading wrong. Check the resistance of your thermistors with a digital multimeter. Always turn power off first, of course. And if you don't feel comfortable doing this, by all means, don't. Electricity will kill you, if you aren't trained in dealing with it. Here is a link for a manual that discusses what reading you should get off of your thermistors. Pages 67-68 in particular. Also, when you pull the thermistor assembly plug from the PCB, check for corrosion. If there is any present, it could be a bad PCB. Huh very interesting.. can you use a multimeter to test it or do you have to have that tester? Also could they make these things less user friendly? Its kind of ridiculous, push this button 69 times, push button 3 six times, button 8 two times, hop on one leg while rubbing your stomach and patting your head. Freaking engineers...
Brad B you can use a multimeter and the service manual gives you step by step directions on how to check the components to verify a good board. The button presses are a pain, but it is what it is.
