    That pack of 12 should be embarrassed by this video. Not only were they all clearly cheating and having a huge benefit from the draft, but Lionel after losing 3 minutes still caught them and proceeded to go straight past without drafting them for a minute. Doing an effort that none of them could even follow him on.

    Thanks, Lionel and team, that was equal measures hilarious and engrossing. Fully agree that demanding pro's rack the bike 12 hrs pre-race is a bit anal and counter-productive: it's not a totally fair race if the athlete finds a crippled bike at transition.

  • @advex4428
    @advex4428 2 года назад +1

    Ironman probably doesn't want to spend some additional 5 bucks somewhere, which might pop up as a cost to make sure the pro's bikes stay in order.
    Ironman is a money generating organization without love for the sport, which wants to syphon money off of other people's love of the sport.
    As evidenced by the fact, that you can only qualify for Kona via their company races, and definitely not via Challenge Roth. What a joke.

    For a well-paid pro athlete, you'd think he'd dire a pro manager to book his airBnB's and set up his bike.
    If you're bike is going to be sitting in the sun, then maybe don't put the tire on until the morning. I mean, have the pro do it in the morning. I've never heard a pro cyclist biotch about race organizing affecting their bikes. The pro triathletes don't make the same money without the 3,000 age-groupers at the race; that's the audience; that's the pitch-group for all the sponsors. The pros will have to "accommodate" them.
    And there is just no way in the world to determine "how" the tire was "bad". Hey, maybe a fellow competitor did something. Maybe, hire personal bike security as well. Deciding you've figured it all out from the dozen's of possibilities and have the solution ("all the organizer's fault") is a little over the top.
    Congrats on the win, Lionel. Well done.

    Plase note that the primary benefit of high-altitude is not increased Hematocrit and RBC-count but the amount of Hb (not concentration), i.e. total hemoglobin mass. Which you don't measure with a blood test. A bit surprising you're drawing the conclusion "no blood benefit" with that data, which has a high day-2-day variability and confounding factors. Just want the best!

    Imagine a pro triathlete jokes about a broken tooth and a mullet emoji appears and we are all laughing until he gets on the bike and obliterates a 12-man train of triathletes who are all professionals and were two-and-a-half minutes up from the start of the leg. Lionel had a training session to put it lightly with a downgraded front wheel AND some of the Pros were drafting illegally. Had Lionel not dealt with the flat, he would have won the race by seven minutes (assuming he didn't smash the bike from the start and left everyone in his dust). The race was over at 13:36 when he dropped the hammer.
    How was the race?
