cavalier king charles are SOOOO good with kids! i remember my cavalier would always get really excited when he heard kids somewhere and would yank me in that direction when we'd go for walks. later on, he was such a good boy with my baby girl. very patient, loved her to death. unfortunately he is no longer with us but that dog has touched all of our hearts in such a way....indescribable. i love cavaliers!
As our Cavalier gets older I keep thinking about what we would do without him. He is my husband's constant companion because he works from home. Our granddaughter just adores him and won't let him go when she is here. So patient, he endures the hair bows and the dressing up with such sweet kindness. I'm so sorry you lost yours. Maybe another??
kgdalg1 Actually, funny you should mention....it's been 5 years without my cavalier and i have finally decided that yes, i will be getting another one. a cavalier is the only dog for me, and i have been in contact with a breeder who just recently had one of her bitches coupled...it will still be months before i have one, IF she finds me suitable (that's how things work here in austria....the breeders decide whether or not you would be a good owner...at least good breeders do) but i am looking forward to it immensely. that dog will be, like with your husband, my companion and will be coming everywhere with me. since i do not run about all day it should be okay :) i also work from home mostly, and if i do go somewhere a cavalier is relatively easy to take with you, once they get used to it. but i am just SO happy and hopeful for the future :) and might i give you a tip? it might be good for you guys if you want another dog, to get the puppy before your current cavalier passes away...it will not ease the sadness MUCH but it will help a little, i'd think...plus, sometimes, bringing a puppy into the home with a older dog can sometimes revitalise the older dog and make them live longer :)
That was a great tip about getting a puppy before ours passes away. Keeping busy with a young dog would help and you are right about the younger dog keeping the older dog active! Good breeders interview prospective dogs here (Massachusetts) as well. My daughter was thinking of getting a second Cavalier a while ago and I went with her and they were so intense with the questioning!! Worse than a job interview! All the best to you.

Two younger siblings have now taken over the silly games with the dog. The two year old makes the dog follow her around for ages holding a doggy treat and drives him crazy, but they are both having a blast. The new baby just squeezes the dogs fur while he patiently allows it. Very gentle breed.

Max is still alive and kicking! Slowing down and graying, but plays with his little 2 yr. old twins in the family, sneaking their food from them! Awesome as ever!
