When I think of Deadly Premonition, I think “All heart, no brain” if you’re just trying to have fun it’s one of the best experiences out there, I don’t know if you’d enjoy the game if you didn’t know what you were getting into, but it still leaves one hell of an impression
He's like the me I'd like to have to talk to myself too.. But then we'd have s and it would get weird. I would end up having to settle just knowing there's another out there, and then I would feel sad again because they would be out forever with no likely probability of both happiness and a variable stream of consciousness analog.. they exist.. The cruelty of course is the compatibility of that in the misery involved lol.. I love that is superpower is autism though.. it's like if you combine autism plus confidence, you get.. I guess Jack reacher technically? This guy's actually not that far off lol.. He's got a different approach to his autism.. But basically the same job and largely the same pop culture skill sets in different avenues and tastes.. probably some different combat skills but.. ain't seen Jack reach or need to deal with supernatural shit so it'll work out.. The weird thing about the first game is that people are okay with this lol.. it's like like autism super fantasy, and I want it so bad, I'm not even that autistic just ADD if anything what's the OCD. But I can roll with the autism.. they can't always roll with me lol.. But he could obviously that's that's what he does lol.. He's got his human skin on, and he sure likes how it fits! The best solutions! Or always fantasies.
Playing the first Deadly Premonition, I knew it had to be a game I completed. . After beating it, even after playing thru the jank & some tedious sections I ended up really enjoying this weird quirky game. The characters and story are so damn interesting you can't turn away 😂 Francis York Morgan is awesome.
This game has more character in one act than most of the AAA gaming industry has had in the past half a decade. Thank you for this video, it will provide me with a couple of hours of joy 👍
I'd challenge anyone to explain what goes on during that game; it's that confusing that I might as well ask people to explain what Love or Joy or Fun is. I've heard "It's a game about police solving a crime" and "A guy about super powers" and "A cult I don't really know" and all are correct ironically. Although I do like the game I also dislike the idea that you have very little control over the actual story; everything leads to the same ending with the same people. The writing is alright, just the overall story is hard to follow because of the over-reaching concepts presented in a snowballing effect; something that does help you connect to *one* of the main characters but really should've been juxtaposed by the police slowly unraveling the case. TL:DR? *Despite all my rage, Written and Directed by David Cage.*

There really is no game that hits *quite* like deadly premonition. It wears its references on its sleeves and never tries to be anything else. Plus that ✨️soundtrack✨️ bangs. The sequel is a game that exists!
I mean I’m not sure it makes it fun or even compared to its other surrealist games ( killer7, Alan Wake or Neir come to mind ). Yeah it has charm but compared to a Suda game it’s gameplay is way more awful
I love how the game opens. It took me until the show itself was mentioned to realize York was talking about the Tom and Jerry cartoon, so I thought he was discussing a gay couple he knew who do BDSM and have a reputation for it. That was not a reading of Tom and Jerry I was expecting to hear today
The driving in DP1 alone is something that needs to be experienced to be believed. Considering how much the game wants you to go around a mostly empty gigantic map to certain points of interest for sidequests, you'd think the driving wouldn't be complete absolute ass. It's like you're driving on the surface of the moon at 0 gravity but at the same time all the cars feel like slow giant trucks with stiff vile controls.
You neglected a few key things; The driving doesn't respect controller tilts, if you try to drive like Forza you'll learn that there isn't much control over your wheels. The other drivers are drunk drivers on rails whom can be unpredictable. There is night driving with monsters. *The turning is so bad.*
Alright now for the REAL QUESTIONS: Did anyone in these comments actually MAKE the “Sinner’s Sandwich”? I did a while back. My stomach still hasn’t quite forgiven me lol
When the first major Let's Play of the game (by Supergreatfrien) came out, there was an entire thread on the SA forums involving tons of people trying to make their own variations on it. Some... turned out better than others.
For me the opening scene in car is so hilarious. Dude is smoking. Looking at internet. Talking on the phone and just as I was wondering this is so over the top I wonder if he will crash he crashes the car. This seems highly unintendedly funny. Like they where just giving player exposition and plot kicks in with shadowy figure. This and other elements makes this a game that is so bad its good and only one ever that has scratched my room size itch. I can see the arguments of this being somewhat more intentional. I am open to other game suggestions that are more so bad they are good but I doubt I get many.
The Good Life also makes me think swery got lucky with deadly premonition. Also both DP2 and Good Life both go heavy on meta commentary on tedious fetch quests and grinding, tho in the case of Good Life (never played DP2) that doesnt make amy of it any less annoying, and the game will run this joke to the ground.
The sound effects of this game are so funny. The stock sound effects are one thing, but sometimes you'll recognize a sound effect somewhere just to realize you know it from Deadly Premonition. I've seen a Temu ad use the same sound as when you kill an enemy in this game.
The 1st game is one of my best experience ever in my entire life, not just gaming. The sequel/prequel did not hit that spot at all, but I still don't mind having played it. But it certaibnly didn't change my life. I wish it did, but alas.
Yeah I agree I was excited for the release even preorder it, but it didn’t have the same. Charm as the first one, haven’t finished the second one yet tho maybe 30%
I saw this first with TotallyPointless TV, I forgot the game existed frankly. I played it so long ago. I'm happy it's getting attention again - probably because of the utter mess that is part 2. XD
the part at the end of deadly premonition 2 where it feels like york's talking directly to the player made me cry when i played it but also made me burst into tears just hearing it again........ i love york so much, i'm so glad that he and zach can talk again because that made me SO upset that they had to be forced apart in 1
I fat-fingered typing in his name in the search bar and it was "Bjoulderpunch", now my head canon is he's from Iceland and talks about video games like Bjork talked about her TV in that one video.
I would like to point out that you can become OP for the combat very quickly. After the hospital you can get access to an unlimited machine gun. Which will help you until you get the VERY missable unlimited Magnum, and later the unlimited RPG launcher. Even then if you keep the guitar you get from the rocker guy as it will 1-2 hit kill any enemy (even the wall creature) and doesn't take damage. I tend to give it back to him later in the game.
I was in a Gamestop, a decade ago now, when I realized that I had a Buy One Get One coupon. I glanced around the room, saw a pretty spooky cover for a game I'd never heard of, and just grabbed it. It was Deadly Premonition! Going in completely blind with my College Roomates watching was...amazing.
I had always heard about this game over the years but until I watched the review from PointlessTV I never knew how amazingly entertaining and atmospheric it was for it's time! Gah I cannot get enough of York and the characters in general of this game, such a shame how two turned out. Could have had so much potential but I'm really glad to see another one of my favorite RUclipsrs covering this awesome game as well! 😁
You really should have played the original Xbox 360 version. The directors cut has always had a terrible reputation of bad performance to the point people thought the game always ran bad. The original did ok, mostly being 30fps, meanwhile every version afterwards was a colossal mess. Even origins on switch is bad. Its the directors cut disguised as the OG. I was fooled so bad I had to buy the 360 version to properly play it.
or the goddamn devs should just port the perfectly fine original 360 version! but they dont give a fuck and after swery quit i doubt that anything will be done again in this franchise.
after playing the first one and watching the seconf one, i still don´t understand what Forrest is supposed to be, an elder god? an inmortal demon? just a silly chucklefuck reflerence tu Swery´s friend?
In my honest opinion about deadly premonition THIS VIDEO GAME IS 100 PERCENT💯✨ perfect!! I believe nothing should be change about this game 🎮🎮🎮 the characters, music 🎶🎶🎶 the story is SoOo perfect!!✨✨ It's a masterpiece especially York one of the best male characters EVER!! ✨✨✨ It's in my top 3 in favorite video games the first 2 being Mass Effect & Far Cry 5
God, I hate the re-releases of DP1. They're SO damn ugly compared to the 360 version (graphical bugs, no color grading, lower resolution textures, messed up audio) and I despise the new cutscenes (pacing and tension destroying nonsense).
360 had a few moments that were like RE1 with the english voice acting; as well as some good weirdness and humor. And then you walk into a crime scene, and that all went away. Instead of being York Morgan you became an Agent while assuming the serious undertones. The re-releases broke a few cutscenes, the hospital and mansion come to mind particularly. I do not know what changed but it altered pacing significantly.
I follow the director/creator on Twitter. Originally, I wanted to ask him to revive D4: Dreams Don't Die, which I did. But he didn't. So, I decided to respect the fact that he probably won't revive the story.
I absolutely love SWERY as a director. I think he is phenomenal when he has limitations and people around him. All of his work during his Access Games period were absolutely great, especially D4. That was his magnum opus, in my opinion, that unfortunately had to be abandoned once he left AG. I think part of why he had so much success was because he had a team of professionals around him who kept him grounded and understood what he was trying to achieve. With White Owls he had so much creative control all of his terrible ideas are able to exist without much pushback. Sure he had The Missing which many would consider the best game he has ever made and there is merit to that. But my LORD is DP2 and TGL absolutely horrible and it’s hard to believe the same director was integral to the game’s final release. I could understand DP2 not being as strong as the first as DP was lightning in a bottle but he also didn’t have much input in the creative process as he was working on Good Life. Which makes it all the more puzzling The Good Life turned out to be so terrible. Especially when the kickstarter demo was great! I’m hoping his collaboration with Suda is a return to form. If not, I don’t see the point in playing more SWERY games which breaks my heart.
I have 1 & 2 on switch I haven’t finished 2 but I completed everything for one I love how quirky the whole game was, the glitches, the monologues, the dialogue This game holds a special place in my heart. ❤️
I love this game so much. I mean it's fucking terrible but has so much charm and as a huge fan of twin peaks this game is just... well theres nothing like it
Xbox 360 version is the best but the most stable on modern platforms is the switch version weirdly enough. Still kinda buggy but nothing more than you would see from even AAA games.
I like DP2 a lot, but I'll be the first to say that it has padding and pacing issues. I think it gets written off by a lot of people as a cheap sequel, but there's moments of brilliance, like you said. I think we also really need to sing the praises of Jeff Kramer, the VA for York and Zach. The two characters have almost the same voice, but they have different tones. It's subtle, but it shows the care that went into the games.
I still will religiously watch the old best friends play playthrough of this gem and finding out they made a 2 one had me tickled not as good but it was good seeing york in all his glory
I finished this game in october after getting halfway through back when it came out on pc. I tried DP2 but man, just didnt captivate me the same way. The magic in the first game just had me grinning from ear to ear the whole time even dealing with the fact that the game crashed often, the car made a constant absolutely HORRIBLE noise that NEVER went away and nearly drowned out all other audio including voices and did I mention the game crashed often? One of my most favorite gaming experiences I think I'll ever have. Absolutely amazing.
To this day I'm BAFFLED how they didn't get sued by Green Day or anyone affiliated with them for the OST "Racing Idiot". It's LITERALLY a guitar instrumental version of American Idiot, it's hilarious.
This is one that didn't cross my radar at the time. I've heard of it since but never looked into it, it's been really interesting. I follow several content creators who do gaming retrospectives, each of you has your own style, yours is very relaxed and easy to listen to.

The voice acting is so goddamn good
Hold on, was Billy Kametz a part of the voice cast in DP2?
tl;dr of the whole game:
that fear you had as a kid accidentally eating an apple or watermelon seed and it'll grow a tree in your belly
As a huge David Lynch fan, I knew I would love this game, but I wasn't expecting it to be much more than a homage. I absolutely LOVE this game☕
This game is the sole reason I discovered Twin Peaks.
everyone should just play the 360 version of the game because it's the least broken
This video is my fresh cup of coffee this morning.
Hungan is most likely a reference to a certain Loa (a spirit/being) of the Voodoo, Baron Samehdi.
I loved Deadly Premonition, but to me George was enough, I didn't need Kaysen being the ultimate villain.
This just lights my day up, like a Christmas tree.
No matter how good or bad this game is perceived to be, I'll always be thankful for that whistling tune.
Halfway through and I’ve seen so many cutscenes I never had experienced before. Thank you again and again for this video.
I have to mention that watching you controlling York’s car is giving me anxiety.
I would love to see a Night Dive remaster for this game
or the goddamn devs should just port the perfectly fine original 360 version! but they dont give a fuck and after swery quit i doubt that anything will be done again in this franchise.
after playing the first one and watching the seconf one, i still don´t understand what Forrest is supposed to be, an elder god? an inmortal demon? just a silly chucklefuck reflerence tu Swery´s friend?
Neat, Disco Elysium before it was a thing. Funny how Devs approach similar concepts with wildly different styles.
It's in my top 3 in favorite video games the first 2 being Mass Effect & Far Cry 5
Honestly as someone with DID this is much more what good alters are like than i can express.
God I love the deadly premonition series sweary is literally one of my favorite devs
Yeah that's a touchy subject for him, perhaps too touchy. He even block people who ask him about this game.
@@Nov-5062 I'm sorry, I didn't know.
7:31 this entire scene is a meme
Zach? yes..this is the coffee we needed right now .
Over 2 hours of Deadly Premonition? Let's fing gooooooooo! Wooo!
Appreciated the reference to Best Friends Play! Matt and Pat’s LP of the first game was my first exposure to it, lol.
Just to add the first game was 20 dollars at release. I feel that should also be a factor in why this game is good.
The tire screech sound effect is used in Duke Nukem 3D.
I adore these games
You ate a lot _!_
The first Deadly Premonition is one of my favorite games of all time,Francis York Morgan is an amazing FBI Special Agent.
Zach looks like John Carpenter when he is older
The pc versions are modable. They fix some of the bugs.
Loving the Amberlynn Reid mention lmao
I have 1 & 2 on switch I haven’t finished 2 but I completed everything for one
I love how quirky the whole game was, the glitches, the monologues, the dialogue
This game holds a special place in my heart.
The first game just looks and sounds like a Garrys Mod fan video. Amazing.
I've been meaning to play DP for a while. Is the switch port any good? It's the version I own.
Merry Christmas Zach, and to Boulder Punch too. Hope you watch Revenge of the Killer Tomatoes over the break.
DEI even ruined DP2
You think the shaving part inspired donnie Wahlberg
Sometimes I wonder if half of the stuff in this game was me having a fever dream. Then I replay it and no, it's just that odd of a game
The first one is great, the sequel...I wish it never happened tbh.
Finally happy to see you review this game (DP1). This is by far my favorite game of all time. One of my cult favorites. Shame DP2 sucked so bad.
This review was very long
But I watched it and thought it was quite the bomb
So says Mr. Stewart
I still will religiously watch the old best friends play playthrough of this gem and finding out they made a 2 one had me tickled not as good but it was good seeing york in all his glory
The car breaks screeching sound is still the best in gaming
DP2 need more a mod/remake that fixes the gameplay than a sequel.
OH what a fantastic surprise to see early in the morning! Can't wait to watch this
I played Deadly Premonition to death, but I literally couldn't even watch videos about DP 2.
You got some big cahonies covering this game
damn the ending of both games actually get to me lmao
Mah dry bread did a nice playthough of these.
Emily + the first game had so much heart
To this day I'm BAFFLED how they didn't get sued by Green Day or anyone affiliated with them for the OST "Racing Idiot". It's LITERALLY a guitar instrumental version of American Idiot, it's hilarious.
RUclips algorithm help
This is one that didn't cross my radar at the time. I've heard of it since but never looked into it, it's been really interesting. I follow several content creators who do gaming retrospectives, each of you has your own style, yours is very relaxed and easy to listen to.
Guess I will actually have to try these. I always worried there would be time limits.
That little comment really pissed Todd Howard off….hes stomping around his tiny little office until you apologize
Glad you're doing this, couldn't get mine to work :P
This video is a wonderful Christmas present. Cheers!
Epic! I asked about this in the Game awards stream! ;)
Talking about the movies and skulls sounds like me
What's the name of the song at the end of the video in the diner?
