Cultural differences, as you might expect. In most countries the top ships often involve their own country (apart from USUK, FrUK, Spain/Romano, and GerIta which are pretty much always in the top 10 somewhere). Top ship in Russia is RusAme, and others include Russia/Prussia, Russia/Germany (rarepair in US fandom). In China as well, some popular ships that are relatively cold in the West are China/Russia, China/Japan, and China/US. It's actually pretty interesting.
@@TheClearSummer Yeah you're right, I would mention then that Spain/Romano is not that much popular in Spain, it's either Frain, SpUK or SpaPort, which I found really interesting when I joined the fandom on how much popular it was but in the Hispanic side SpUk was Spain' top ship

It seems no matter what country, people seem to really like pairings that in real-life (historically or in modern times) aren't necessarily on the best terms? (RusAme, China/Japan, China/US, SpUK, FrUK?) Something about 'rivals' and love-hate angst seems to be a favourite trope worldwide! XD

I ship Ameripan, Giripan, SwissPan, MacPan, ItaPan, and GerPan. But I'm beginning to ship TurkPan so much more, because of the history they had, and the film "125 Years Memory".

TBH as a veteran ameripan shipper I for some reason have a morbid curiosity to what a "the problem with shipping ameripan" video would look like. So far you've made very positive reviews on my OTP and even defended/debunked some of the flaws that people tend to point out with this ship which I'm actually quite surprised about too. Do you happen to ship it too or do you just happen to have respect for it as a ship?
Also it's strange to think that way back then this ship was a rare pair, considering that now it's considered one of the more basic ships for both America and Japan...
I like ameripan, but don't really ship it that much. I just seen it bashed too many times because of the dub and unnecessary angst about WW2.
@@UnhappyChibiWasAlone I see, yeah. I hate how their relationship dynamic got lost in translation... then again many things in the funimation dub get lost for some reason. Like the characters' personalities, relationships, sometimes context even, etc.
And yeah I do admit that ww2 was the lowest point for their relationship... I can see why it could cause people to be put off by the ship because of it... but this was the first ship I've ever shipped in the Hetalia fandom and the reason why I shipped them for the first place is because of my experiences as an American and how we seem to be kind of obsessed with Japan and have such a close relationship with them now a days. We've forgiven each other about the war and now we're both in a better place together now. I know what I wrote was pretty sentimental, I just feel really strongly about this sort of thing. XD
I don't mind people who don't like it tho. It's not going to be everyone's thing. Also I have been starting to ship other ships with them like ameliet and frus (although I ship the latter in a more platonic way), and for Japan there are several ships that I like with him.
It’s so weird to hear some old Hetalia fans say how Ameripan was one of the rare ships back then because nowadays it’s normal to see someone say they ship Ameripan! It was my second Hetalia ship I love that they have opposite personalities and it’s just cute.
i've been a fan since 2011 and ameripan used to be SUPER unpopular which makes me sad because it's been my otp this entire time 😭

What happen with Portugal and japan?
When Portugal first found Japan, they started a commercial business. However, the japanese emperor started getting angry with the portuguese sailors for these two reasons mainly:
- The s***** trade they were doing with his own people;
- The way christianism was becoming too popular and, in his eyes, putting at risk the other two religions there.
So he kicked the portuguese sailors from Japan and k***** almost all christians in his country, regardless if they were portuguese or japanese.
It's for these reasons that I always found the (rare anyways - surprised it was even mentioned here) PortPan ship a little... uncomfortable for me to like. But if you ignore the irl history between them, they look cute together.

I would like to see a video one day saying 'the problem of shipping RusLat, RusLiet, RoChu, IggyChu, AmeChu and Ameripan' because those couples have TOO MUCH problems, especially RoChu and RusPru (harassment, desire to kill themselves, age difference, the toxic, etc)
I am a Russian speaker, although I am half Japanese, as I see that Ameripan/Amepan is very popular in the English community, I come to give my opinion. (it's just my opinion, don't hate me, just think before matching certain pairs)

(just imagine the poor kiku at christmas) that headcanon says that Nagasaki and Hiroshima are the eyes of Japan, so you can imagine what happened after that. and yet another bomb that was in Tokyo, the capital and the capital of the nation is supposed to be the heart of the nation. IT'S LIKE GETTING A STABBACK IN THE HEART, WHY DO THEY KEEP PAIRING? ..the ship is literally fictional so chill and stop taking it too seriously. Ppl (like me) just ship these two because they have cute interactions in the anime, plus irl japan and usa have good relations now. Not to mention the characters are forced to listen to their bosses and probably don’t condone the war crimes that happened, so stop acting like the characters are responsible for it :/ you don’t have to ship it, as long as you aren’t going around harassing shippers and canceling them
