I have been using mov for RUclips without realizing I could use mp4 and make the file size smaller. My internet isn’t too fast, so this helps very much. As a test I had a video exported as both band honestly it’s nearly impossible to tell the difference.
So let's say I'm exporting it out of DaVinci (it has options to pick any of those you mentioned), to then send it into Logic Pro X to work on the audio further before uploading it to RUclips, would I be ok choosing QuickTime as the video format, H.264 as the video codec, and then under Audio (which has separate options), selecting Linear PCM so I can further work on a good quality audio file in Logic? Versus choosing the Audio as AAC I mean, because I AM applying SERIOUS (lots of them and professionally done I have a background in this) edits to the audio inside Logic. Thanks!
my iphone recorded video in .mov format. when i render it in premiere pro, the video loses a lot of quality, it’s blurry. how do i avoid that? best settings for rendering .mov videos without losing quality?
I'm still a little confused as to what I should use as my "go to" settings for standard shooting on a DJI Mini 3, editing on a MacBook Pro, for videos for RUclips, Facebook etc. I want high quality of course! Any advice please?
Hi Devon, Oh! I actually made a dedicated video talking about video export settings for RUclips. Please see my video below. ruclips.net/video/lmSS25o-xuI/видео.html Hope this helps!
i honestly cannot tell visually the difference between mp4 and mov but i think when you go to edit the video again, all the noise and small lil problems comes up
@@alexjulius69 Ok, but maybe RUclips will downgrade the .mov format to .mp4 and the audio to 320kbps, where the audio quality is still good and not too lossy. You can’t hear any difference.
So if I have the MP4 on my tablet, and I want to broadcast in the highest quality to a TV connected to a surround 5.1 system , what's the best connection?
Question I exported as a h264 but I’m unable to play the film on my Mac … how would I be able to play it on my computer and how will my client be able to play it back ?
My editing software will sometimes tell me that my video game footage is variable rate and not reliable for editing. It then gives me options to upgrade it to .mov or higher. Is that really necessary?
I really like the way you explain things and your pacing and cursor so that it doesn't go all over the place while you are talking and thinking like so many other people. Bottom line is a bit confusing. If I want to post my video on RUclips or Tik Tok, is it best to use .mov or Mp4 from Quicktime edited video .264
thank you for the video! would like to ask something, i admit i got a little confused towards the end, when we are suddenly introduced to this new concept, at list in this video, which is- the preset. what is the preset exactly? assuming it is optional pre-existing pairings of container and codec.... but then another thing is a bit confusing to me- why is h.264 written as "format" and not codec? i thought mp4 is the container\format. lastly- is that a jump cut when you touch on the mov and turn it back to mp4 or.... what type of trickery is that? thanks! (:
Hi Nice video, Do you know about importing a video in your video editing programm? I have tried camtasia and davinci resolve, but both software gives me problems when i import a .mov file in the project. It sees the file as an sound file and not as a movie file. It is made by my panasonic s2IIx as i guess 4k 25fpm Longbo something
Good explanation in the begining, Clearly this was for apple users. I edited a video in Davinci Resolve, trying to play the video From a USB Flash Drive on to a TV, Can't get it working. It's currently in MOV with exFAT format. Any advice for me please ?
If it plays fine in Resolve and on your computer, my best guess is that something is wrong with the flash drive or the input on your tv is unable to play back the video.
@@johnthevideoguy Thank you John, I'm starting to have a strong suspicion that it might be the flash drive. Will purchase a different one tomorrow and try again. Big thanks
iPhone does not allow you to upload MP4. i had to download it to the Cloud on my iphone to the cloud Editor app on my computer to convert the file but when i convert it on my computer the video had better quality then i had on iphone. the iphone quality had low quality you couldn’t see the video because it was blurry and static but when i uploaded it on my computer it had no blurry and static. the quality was perfect but that’s the encoder. my suggestion is if you want the perfect quality upload it on your computer but it’s depends on how good your encoder is
hey John thanks for the great explanation. Now I think you are exactly the right for my question because I'm just despairing. Does it even make sense to record with my gh5ii in MOV if I have to convert it to MP4 later anyway because davinci doesn't recognize the codec in the free version? Since I can record but equal in MP4 or do I have there a thinking error?
Thanks! Yes, I would record in mp4 if you’d have to convert it anyways in order to edit it in Resolve. The container (mp4 & mov) doesn’t necessarily affect the quality of the video recorded. So you should be fine recording in mp4. It should still be high quality coming out of the camera.
If you upload it to RUclips you don't need to use their codec, RUclips transforms the video anyway, and if you transform a H264 into another H264 you lose quality twice, so if you have the bandwith upload with the highest quality possible to avoid double compression artefacts.
Hello John The Video Guy, I trust all is well. I have a weird thing that is happening with my videos audio i've exported out of Final Cut Pro 10.6.5 once it's uploaded to RUclips. The master project file settings of the Final Cut Pro editing session is 1920 x 1080 29.97p Rec. 709 stereo 44.1k & the videos audio has no detectable clip/click at the very beginning once it's been exported to the desktop & played via quick time player, but when that file is uploaded to RUclips there is a noticeable clip/click at the very start of the audio. Here are my settings in the export window for RUclips I have been using. Format: Computer Video Codec: H.264 Better Quality Resolution: 1920 x 1080 Color Space: Standard - Rec. 709 Audio Format: AAC Action: Quicktime Player (default) 1920 x 1080|29.97 fps Stereo (L R)|48 kHz .mp4 It appears because RUclips is a video platform that it wants the audio files at 48 kHz which I do have it set to per my export settings above & it won't allow me to change this to 44.1 kHz without changing my format settings from .mp4 to .mov, but my master audio files in the sessions are always at 44.1 kHz so not sure if I'm setting that right or if this could be the culprit. If there is anything you see that I'm doing wrong or have any idea what I could do to fix this audio clip/click at the very beginning of my videos that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all the knowledge you share. Have a great day & weekend. Sincerely, Michael Hiebeler =)
Thanks for the nice comment! That is a weird issue. Since it is only noticeable when it is uploaded to RUclips, I think it has to do with how RUclips compresses your video. RUclips's current audio recommendation is 48 kHz, so I would try that and see if it works. Even if you have to export in an .mov format. I've linked their recommended export settings below. support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171?hl=en#zippy=%2Caudio-codec-aac-lc The other thing I would recommend is to maybe try adding a small fade in at the very beginning of the audio. Even if it's just a few frames. That might fool RUclips to not add the click at the very beginning of your audio. Hope this helps!
@@johnthevideoguy I spoke with Larry Jordan who's well versed with Final Cut Pro & I guess it appears to be an issue with preference files becoming corrupt within Final Cut every so often, usually once a year or so. There is a work around that he showed me to reset the preferences to take care of the click, so it appears it was not RUclips compression or anything on their end. Thanks for your response & help. Have a great day & week. Sincerely, Michael Hiebeler =)

Seems .MOV is better for audio quality, I've been exporting in MP4 and always were noticing audio issues, I'll be moving onto .MOV from now on
My doubt is if RUclips still will downgrade the quality to an mp4 format, so idk if it makes sense anyway.
