    • @pia5543

Beschäftigung is not really used in day to day speech. Its rather: Arbeit or Job for occupation. So its like: ich hätte gerne Erfolg "auf der Arbeit"/ "in meinem Job" or if you are generellay speaking and want to say sucess in your profession you say: ich hätte gerne erfolg in meinem Beruf.
If its his own brand/buisness: ich hätte gerne Erfolg mit meinem Unternehmen(buisness)/ meiner Marke (brand).

Had me giggling at the notion that "nett" is a very passive agressive word in German :)
My German teacher (at school) used to say that "gut" and "nett" did not count as proper adjectives (e.g. when giving feedback) and she outright used them as polite insults (very British of her, come to think of it). Es ist schön zu sehen, wie Ihr Euch zusammen ammüsieren könnt! I was raised and educated in Germany, but my family is English, so I've been surrounded by Germans learning one of my native languages all my life. It was a funny experience hearing you guys speak German- the flip side of the coin so to say. Eine meiner Gewohnheiten ist es, mitten in einer "Erzählung" die Sprache zu wechslen. Es ist häufig ein einziges Chaos ;D Blimey this has turned into something resembling a diary entry... Alles Liebe from a London Girl living in Northern Germany xx

As a German, I don't even get the verbs at the end of the sentence right all the time because I use so many subordinate clauses that I don't remember where I started sometimes! We call these unnecessarily complicated sentences, that could have easily been split into two or more seperate sentences "Bandwurmsätze" btw:)

Jade this is so inspirational to watch and a nice psychology game to escape into another language and culture. It has been scientifically proven that practicing another language contributes to the health of our brains ( better memory, concentration, more solutions/ideas) and keeps us safe from the Alzheimer desease. What is more, the more you put yourself out there and out of your comfort zone in order to learn German (or any other language) the more doors of other peoples lives, friendships, worlds are there waiting to be opened for you. I would love to see more of your german videos.❤

Aw Jade, this was so interesting to watch! I feel like you'd both learn Dutch really well now with English being the native language, you'd have the base underneath of German, and then Dutch would just slot in naturally. Perhaps you and Folk could make that like a 60 day challenge? (video idea). Linguists do say our closest language is Frisian, and there's a few words we have in Geordie that are from old maritime Dutch sailors, like keek from kijken ✨

But I also see how important it is to find people you feel comfortable to talk with in the new language, so you can get over the things holding you back. (especially with German uff, I can imagine why people struggle with my language, would have struggled so much with the grammar if it wouldn't have been my native tongue)

Both of you delivered a nice good German conversation.
One tip for both of you: when you use verbs describing movements (e.g. to swim, to walk, ...) use "sein" instead of "haben". Example: "wir sind geschwommen" or "wir sind spazieren gegangen". So, don't say, "wir haben geschwommen". That's not entirely correct. Say, "wir sind geschwommen".

I'm currently in the process of learning Dutch and I find it difficult to switch from Danish (foreign language) to Dutch without adding the pronunciation of German to my Dutch. My friends in the Netherlands tell me kindly so i am aware. I love that you guys go with more languages and I am profoundly happy to see your videos with Dutch. Please do more of those Jade ☺️

Your brothers German is actually so good. And also when you speak German it sounds like a mixture of a Dutch and English person speaking German. It sounds very interesting to a native German speaker ❤
