If you're learning a language, I hope this video inspires you to make all the mistakes and JUST TRY because the more you speak, the better you get!! 😌🤪 why is it so hard to remember vocab during conversations!!??? why is german grammar so hard!!?? lol this was so fun to film!! lots of love
Dutch grammar is hard for me because I thinks it's similar to German but sometimes it isn't. But I hope to be better in September. I still want to learn frysk but books and courses are hard too find and I just don't have the time for a 6 weeks course in Groningen.
So funny that most times you laughed because a word sounded made-up it was actually completely right and idiomatic!!! English and German are more similar than you think
Learning a language is so funny because you thought 'manifestieren' was a word you made up but it's actually the right word :D we know so much more than we give ourselves credit for
the fact that you could make so many mistakes and still be mutually understood has definitely given me the confidence to speak more without worrying about mistakes
guys this is so good!! Als Deutsche kann ich sagen, dass ihr wirklich sehr gut sprecht und auch kaum einen Akzent habt (probably because of your dutch background). It's so fun to watch this video in german, honestly!! Love to you both
The nicest sibling relationship ive seen lol! Hearing you guys speak is making me envious, motivated, and makes me feel better about my german. Ive been trying to learn it for a couple of years now but only really taking it seriously this year and I hope to improve to even a basic conversational level lmao
Jade, I just finished A Level German and it really nice to see people on the same language learning journey as me. You have improved so much in your German Jade, keep it up 👍. The work for business is Beschäftigung, I think 🇩🇪.
Beschäftigung is not really used in day to day speech. Its rather: Arbeit or Job for occupation. So its like: ich hätte gerne Erfolg "auf der Arbeit"/ "in meinem Job" or if you are generellay speaking and want to say sucess in your profession you say: ich hätte gerne erfolg in meinem Beruf. If its his own brand/buisness: ich hätte gerne Erfolg mit meinem Unternehmen(buisness)/ meiner Marke (brand). Hope thats not too confusing god😣 😵
Wow!
3:17 manifestieren is actually the correct word! So your instinct was completely right, good job:) Jade, I`m so so impressed withn your german, it`s so good already!! Love from Munich:)
As a German, I don't even get the verbs at the end of the sentence right all the time because I use so many subordinate clauses that I don't remember where I started sometimes! We call these unnecessarily complicated sentences, that could have easily been split into two or more seperate sentences "Bandwurmsätze" btw:)
Had me giggling at the notion that "nett" is a very passive agressive word in German :) My German teacher (at school) used to say that "gut" and "nett" did not count as proper adjectives (e.g. when giving feedback) and she outright used them as polite insults (very British of her, come to think of it). I was raised and educated in Germany, but my family is English, so I've been surrounded by Germans learning one of my native languages all my life. It was a funny experience hearing you guys speak German- the flip side of the coin so to say. Es ist häufig ein einziges Chaos ;D Blimey this has turned into something resembling a diary entry... Alles Liebe from a London Girl living in Northern Germany xx
This is such a cute wholesome video 😻 Also, "Abendbrot" can mean dinner!! When I lived in Germany we used to eat bread with various toppings and salad etc. and we called it Abendbrot :)
i had this video randomly in my recommended section and it ended up taking me a fat minute to realize that it was filmed in my hometown. It was really enjoyable to watch something so familiar through the eyes of someone who's perceiving it for the first time. That combined with the fact that I live in Berlin now really puts things into perspective and made me realize what I had and took for granted my whole life so thank you for your video jade I will definitely subscribe and keep watching
Jade this is so inspirational to watch and a nice psychology game to escape into another language and culture. It has been scientifically proven that practicing another language contributes to the health of our brains ( better memory, concentration, more solutions/ideas) and keeps us safe from the Alzheimer desease. What is more, the more you put yourself out there and out of your comfort zone in order to learn German (or any other language) the more doors of other peoples lives, friendships, worlds are there waiting to be opened for you. I would love to see more of your german videos.❤
I loved it so much to listen to you and Folkert talking in German - I usually also develop a block at the beginning of learning a language, but listening to you both was so wholesome! But I also see how important it is to find people you feel comfortable to talk with in the new language, so you can get over the things holding you back. (especially with German uff, I can imagine why people struggle with my language, would have struggled so much with the grammar if it wouldn't have been my native tongue)
Aw Jade, this was so interesting to watch! I feel like you'd both learn Dutch really well now with English being the native language, you'd have the base underneath of German, and then Dutch would just slot in naturally. Perhaps you and Folk could make that like a 60 day challenge? (video idea). Linguists do say our closest language is Frisian, and there's a few words we have in Geordie that are from old maritime Dutch sailors, like keek from kijken ✨
Viel Erfolg Jade. Du hast super gemacht! ❤
This is great to see. I done immersion language program for Chinese at Middlebury Language School for 2 months at the end was advance beginner so A2 level in conversation. Also, lost some my English too doing the program. Inspire people to keep learning and speaking.. Also, just finish 9 months in Taiwan learning Mandarin now B1-B2 level conversation. I will continue reviewing and learning back home.
Both of you delivered a nice good German conversation. One tip for both of you: when you use verbs describing movements (e.g. to swim, to walk, ...) use "sein" instead of "haben". That's not entirely correct.

Your brothers German is actually so good. And also when you speak German it sounds like a mixture of a Dutch and English person speaking German. It sounds very interesting to a native German speaker ❤
When I moved to Germany at the age of 11 years I learnt the language from TV for the most part, that was before internet existed tho. Most of the things you think are ridiculous to say and laugh at are actually not wrong. For example, “Abendbrot” is a synonym for “Abendessen” aka dinner and something that is in the air, yes we say that in Germany too.

I'm german so just hearing your words without translating them in my mind was wild. but both of your german skills are sooo good!
