50 Cent is not just a rapper - He is an icon, a symbol of NY and the 2000s. Coming from South-Eastern Europe, and growing up there, 50 Cent is a big part of American Culture. He was everywhere, video games, movies, songs, shows - Simply a legend. Few knew Jay-Z as well, but no one cared much about him - it was all 50 & Eminem

We are talking about 50 and not Eminem. 50 is not in most peoples top 5 but Jay on the other hand is, and he's usually at number one. 50 had a lot of hits but not one of his albums can touch the BLUE PRINT. No one is playing Eminems music the clubs however, 50 & Jay's music still goes hard today. I do agree with you however, that Eminem sold more units than Jay Z.

From this documentary I learnt that beefs are just another important marketing technique that hiphop artists use. 50 and Jay are great business man. Respect their intelligent
Props and shout outs to both J AND 50 for being competitive, loving the sport of what they're passionately into, and acting like true professionals. Is there a more iconic rap album cover than Get Rich Or Die Tryin'? I grew up listening to metal and didn't start really listening to rap until well after high school, but even as a kid I remember seeing that album cover everywhere in stores without even really knowing who 50 Cent or G-Unit were and thinking it was fucking sick.
It's pretty iconic but various Kendrick Lamar covers like GKMC or damn, forest hill by j Cole. Another one that pains me to say is that one album cover by lil Uzi vert even though it's dog shit u can't escape social media without someone having a variation of that cover as their profile picture.
14:18 Jay-Z did kind of respond a little to 50 Cent's Be A Gentleman, in his song Streets Is Talking "If I shoot you, I'm brainless, different toilet, same shit and I'm sick of explainin' this" a reference to when Jay-Z said the line in his song Streets Is Watching but also a shot at 50 Cent as 50 Cent twisted the lines in Be A Gentleman. Also when Jay-Z says "You wanna conversate wit the writer of the Qur'an or old Testament, don't test him then" another shot at 50 Cent as well as his song Ghetto Qu'ran
Also Jay Z sneak dissing 50 Cent on "30 Something". «I'm from era when niggas don't snitch, you from era snitching is the shit I afraid of the future(Why?) You respect the one who got shot I respect the shooter» This is shot at 50 and The Game.
If Ye would study the way 50 communicates, always calm cool & collected and no matter what the issue, he maintains that even keeled tone & usually dropping knowledge. It's not always the message, the messaging is just as important if you wanna be heard & taken serious by more peeps.
Exactly this, people keep saying that Kanye has said good things and some of his comments and it's like okay yeah but when you don't have any tact or etiquette when you're speaking, and you're disrespecting people, that's going to be glossed over of course.
@@williefaulker Without a doubt. Especially, from someone like Ye who has a history of erratic behavior, rants, outbursts and also hitting others with shrapnel because he's passionate about an issue/event. There's many people, especially those who aren't hip hop heads and/or fans, still view Ye, as Kayne West from the Taylor Swift award show incident. While it's a more trivial issue. And not like I care about award shows, pop music or Taylor Swift for that matter. But, whether I agreed with him or not that Beyonce should of won the award & sure af wasn't watching it live. Lol. My wife watches all those award shows, and do remember her calling me in from another room when it happened. Regardless if Beyonce should of won or not, Taylor Swift didn't have anything to do with it. If I remember correctly, she was still a teenager & it was the 1st award she had ever won. Ffs, I think most people know that award shows are usually bs & a lot of times those who should win haven't. Even the George Bush comment, saying he don't like Black people. Lol. I know that most just took that part of the clip & ran with it, instead of going back and watching the entire interview & understanding what he meant by it. That's the snippet that the media is gonna run with. And as an MC who knows the importance of putting words together, he's never been great at putting a message out. Him playing the victim is tiresome when the reason he doesn't get taken serious or that some will always just say "it's kayne being Kayne again" is his own damn fault. This situation is pretty similar. When you go & group an entire race, religion, color etc. By saying "Jew" or "Jewish", automatically you're gonna piss of the majority of the Jewish community, the same way you would if you said "black" "white" "Hispanic" "Asian" etc. It's on the messenger to be more nuanced about who or what they are specifically referencing. The onus isn't on the listener to put on their Ye decoder ring on & analyze what he's saying.

I hope you see this comment, I wanted to ask if you could do a video on explaining what happened between DeathRow records and Bad Boy records in the 1990’s. This beef between these two record labels had two of the biggest names in rap, and it would be nice if you could make a video about it because there’s a lot that happened in the West Coast vs East coast beef. Tupac vs B.I.G.. Tupac telling Nas in his face that he dissed him and everybody such as Jay Z, everything about that beef. I really enjoy your videos because you are like a Journalist when it comes to beef and history of hip hop.
This whole beef would have been placed in better perspective if the album sales of each artist had been mentioned. Jay did very good numbers during all this period while 50’s had been steadily declining after Massacre, especially with Before I self Destruct and then Animal Ambition, which made him look like he was not on Jay-Z’s level any more. Regardless, this video is excellent as always, I admire your professionalism, which is rare in this field. Keep up the good work!

50 is kind of right about Jay Zs popularity outside the US, especially in Africa, only hip hop heads have even heard of him, some know him as Beyoncés husband fr. But 50 and the G unit sign was everywhere, from posters on barbershops to belt buckles😂.

From this documentary I learnt that beefs are just another important marketing technique that hiphop artists use. 50 and Jay are great business man. Respect their intelligent
Great breakdown of Jay & 50 Cent this was so on point!
THIS was definitely worth the wait man I love it
Very interesting video, I always loved their little rivalry
50 did say on his debut album, track six, he going after "nas and jigga both for the throne."
Props and shout outs to both J AND 50 for being competitive, loving the sport of what they're passionately into, and acting like true professionals. And absolutely no real life fisticuffs, gun shots or actual physical violence. Glad to see these two acted like grown adults the whole time instead babified 5 year-olds resorting to Neanderthal violence.
I'm exactly the same way competitively when it comes to anything and everything I do. That's why I love this rap battle shit. The cunning metaphors and artistic wordplay really tend to shine through.
I remember when 50 Cent & Jay Z had that Reebok commercial together air back in 2003 during the BET Awards 😎👟
Super facts one of the last best era of hip-hop before the 2010 era. 50 was still coming at Jay at the time competitively.
There are various levels to beef ..
So when you say "disagreements" that's basically one of the smaller , less serious levels of beef , like the 50 and Jay beef
It’s just a pity they never did more music together . But both equally as competitive
Amazing video. ONLY thing missing is the time Jay and 50 did a track called Syllables with Em & Dre. Literally nothing else was left out ! Good job!!!
I come from a very small village in Africa and had to opportunity to go abroad and believe me when I tell You 50 cent is known there and she of his songs get listened to but only the hardcore fans of HipHop who are small minority know about Jay Z.

Snoop Dogg “Doggystyle” is quite possibly the best album cover ever.😂😂😂

Thanks for elaborating was I was wondering what 50 was responding to about twisting Jay’s words
Also Jay Z sneak dissing 50 Cent on "30 Something".
«I'm from era when niggas don't snitch, you from era snitching is the shit

If Ye would study the way 50 communicates, always calm cool & collected and no matter what the issue, he maintains that even keeled tone & usually dropping knowledge.
It's not always the message, the messaging is just as important if you wanna be heard & taken serious by more peeps.
Yeah 50 usually is easier at keeping a check on his temper more of the cold rage then the hot rage yeah.
I never really noticed but you’re right I never seen fiddy really get mad or yell. He always calm and laid back
That’s what makes Kanye a polarizing figure, it’s all about marketing.
Me being from the old shcool just have to say that Jay Z vz. Nas was one of the biggest and best rap battles of all time. I really don't think Jay and 50 would have been no where close to him and Nas.
