Whoever is doing the commentary needs to be a sports announcer or news anchor. It’s obviously HIS pool that’s being resurfaced even tho he kept saying “we”. Enjoyed this!! ThanQ
Thanks I appreciate that. And thanks for watching.
I thought they sounded like Bob Odenkirk 😂
That guy with the dreads is awesome. Good energy!
Thanks
Excellent let me know how it goes. Good luck and thanks for watching.
Great vid for those of us who have to re-plaster for the first time our pools!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Really nice job with this video, thanks for sharing!
Glad you liked it!
We did a great job!
I need to hire those guys.
Thus is perfect! I'm having my pool resurfaced right now, this eases my stress!
Glad I could help. Good luck with your pool.
WHATS YOUR TOTAL COST
This was a well-done explanatory video of the steps to resurface the pool. What brought me to dig into this video was to get information on how to do it. I live in Florida and when we purchased our home the pool was in really bad condition. As I was cleaning it one day I felt a soft spot under and to my surprise there was a hole where then one more and more and so the in the walls the plaster was coming off. I don't have money to pay a company but I consider myself very handy and have the time to do it. I might will bather you when getting in there with a couple questions if you don't mind. Thank you so much and I look forward to checking out more videos on your channel.
Thanks we hired this company to do it and they brought in a whole bunch of people. I wasn’t totally happy with some of the results but all in all it looks pretty good.
@@TomLeemanhey,.. what is the average price for this? I am in florida and I have many spot like those..and of course I want to do the resurfacing of the pool fully
@@georgesotelo1917 we paid I think right around seven or 8000 including the tile and all of the labor but these guys weren’t the greatest. There were a lot of mistakes but it came out looking. OK. Good luck on your thanks for watching.
In st Pete fl. 7000 gal pool was just under 4k.
@@benleeper69 im on Spring Hill, FL north of St Pete. Mine was quoted at $4k as well. After watching this video I will finally do this myself. I am confident I can do this. Today is 03/29/24 I have to do this within the next couple of months.
Beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!
Looks great! I wish you guys were in my area!
Thanks and thanks for watching
These crews are all the same and it's the same process no matter where you are from and they all work the same way I have been doing this in Florida and NJ all my life
@@paulgray6100 I am up in Canada so things are not quite the same here. If anyone specializes in something like this it would probably cost you double here as it would there.
Yep, that was all the work and the tile and the product
nice job - might be doing this myself - but definitely not alone. clearly gonna want some help.
Go for it!
Great Job!
Thanks!
I heard that before. Thanks.
This guy is amazed with those spike shoes.
Spikes
Cool video
Thanks
When they got done, there was bumps on the bottom and they cement it in my light so I couldn’t remove it so there was a lot of problems with this crew, but the pool didn’t look too bad afterwards from afar
Thank you so much for all the details about this. This crew have done an incredible job. May I know the approximate cost and time for this project? Thank you so much.
Well, it took one day to drain it then one day to tear out all the bubbles or bad parts of the pool and clean it out one day to tear out the old tile and install new tile and then one day to do the CERT resurfacing about 7500+1500 for the tile Thanks for watching.
They did it the easy way, should've charged way less. Supposed to remove half inch of the old plaster of the entire surface
It would be more trouble than it’s worth to take them to court for the amount of money. It’d be cheaper really just to fix it myself, but I’m gonna live with it for right now.
Great job!!!
How many days did it take you to do that? And how many minutes does the plaster take to dry while in use? We are doing it ourselves.
Well, it takes a day to drain the pool then it takes a day to ship out all the bad spots and clean all that mess up and it takes a day to strip all the tile off and then it takes another day to do the plaster work if you have enough people And then he takes a day to fill it
Hi Tom I am currently having my pool replastered. The crew I have just came out to do the demolition today. Anything that I should watch out for or ask them to do to avoid any of the mistakes that you learned in your case?
The most important thing is when they smooth out the diamond bright on the surface on the final application. Make sure that they’ve got it. Nice and smooth with no bumps. Good luck. Thanks for watching.
We are in South Florida
A concrete mix will work, to mix the plaster??? Good video. Good explanation. Good job thanks for sharing
You bet
We just tried to get the job done as quickly as possible and fill the pool. I don’t know if there’s anything that you can do to keep it from happening
Looks like a pretty good job with attention to detail. Would you recommend these guys? Great vid and nice play-by-play.
There were some things that I was not happy with, so I don’t know if I would recommend these guys because they didn’t come back and fix some problems that I had one was there completely in case it light, which was a total mistake and there’s some really rough areas on the surface bottom
@TomLeeman what did you mean by they incased the light?
thanks for the video. the installation manual says that coveage of an 80-lb bag is approx 22 sqft. is that your experience?
I do believe so
Hey Tom--I know you said you weren't completely happy with the plaster result. How about the tile part? Did that hold up well? Thanks!
Tile came out good and happy with the look thanks for watching
Great to hear!! @@TomLeeman
Great video Tom! Thanks for posting...If I may ask how big was your pool square feet and gallons? Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m not quite sure how big it is to tell you the truth
This crew never wiped down the finish with towels to expose the aggregate after troweling the way I've seen done in other videos. Wonder why not. Also, others have shown waiting a day before acid washing. Was a different brand of plaster. Does this make a difference in application?
These guys were not very professional. They screwed up a lot of stuff. Any other constructive criticism. Please write in the comments. Thanks.
Hitting the aggregate with a pressure washer takes off most of the dust that covers the aggregate, once you acid wash it it will make the aggregate pop a little more. Once the pool is filled you brush everyday for 30 days and that will help take off even more of that dust layer from the finish. Keeping the pool acidic during the curing process will help as well.
Excellent video, I need this done and it really displays the intricacies and amount of labor. Can you dispatch a Team to do my Pool, bikini models for labor??
That would be the best pool company ever if they have bikini models
How smooth was your finish? I’m surprised they didn’t polish the pool after the acid bath. The quartz can be sharp and it’s exposed after the acid washes away the white Portland cement.
These guys were not the greatest pool dudes as a matter fact there was a bunch of lumpy bumps on the bottom, and they never came back to fix it
This was about 7500 with the tile which I bought from another source, but I have to say these guys weren’t the greatest mechanics and there were some flaws but for the price I guess it was worth it
What flaws & mechanics please?
Hi Tom, the tile you picked is very nice. What's the name of it and where you got it from? Thank you.
It’s been a while and I’m not quite sure. It was a local tile place in town town.
How much cost this work?
Well "we" certainly got the job done.😄
Yes, we did
Props to the guy who can smoke his cig while he had trowels the steps 😂
The only problem is, he dropped a big giant ash and it turned the area gray. Now I have a spot on my son step.
Hi, was really good project, do you work in new york?
Nope this is a Florida crew. This took probably about five days. It takes a day to drain the pool and it takes a day to chip off all the old tile and knock out all of the bubbles and cracks and things that you have on the old pool then you got a clean it all out and then once you get that done, you can put on your new tile let it set and then you can bring in your big crew and cover the whole Pool with diamond Brite And it takes another day to fill it out. Good luck thanks for watching.
Do you unplug the valve hydrostatic relief?.
That’s a great question. I’m not sure.
@@TomLeeman I didn't know about that hydrostatic valve. But some pools don't come with it. I live in Atlanta, Georgia.
I do this for a living and have never pressure washed the interior of a pool, we always give it an acid wash and rinse it down. Obviously we take care of delaminations
I could’ve used your company if you were in Florida, dang it
If you don’t mind me asking, how much did it all cost?
About eight grand
Hello, I am watching your video and the price you stated I know I would have to take out a 2nd. My pool looks just like yours. Where are you located for quotes on my pool?
We are in South Florida and they charge about $7000 plus the cost of materials and tiles
How much did it cost for the entire job?
Just under 8000
This guy kept saying we a lot like he was part of the crew doing the work 🤣🤣
When I say we, I mean them
The bond cote is not meant to be rolled on. It should be applied with a broom to create a rough surface for the plaster to bite
Thanks for those tips. These guys that we hired we’re not the best I can tell you that you see anything else that you think they did wrong. Please write in the comments.
I beg a differ it can be rolled on or sprayed.
@@TomLeemanSo as a subcontractor you acknowledge that you didn't hire a quality crew? Wow, that's not cool. I guess whatever to maximize your profit.
@@TheGoldenTrout no as a homeowner, I hired Gulfstream Pools and they hired these guys as subcontractors
@@TomLeeman ahhhh, got it.
Do you know the kind of tile used on the pool line
It’s a glass tile that I want at a tile shop cost me about $1500. It’s twilight series turquoise GT 82323T for glass mosaic tile. We love it. It really gives the pool. A cool look
Is there any chance the pool could crack without the weight of the water when drained
When we drained ours for this application, it didn’t crack but we had to bust out a bunch of bubbles and then in a really do some work on it so it’s a whole process. Thanks for watching.
NO, BUT IF IT RAINS A LOT, THE GROUND WATER COULD PUSH THE POOL OUT OF THE GROUND, IT HAS HAPPENED
How much should something like this cost? I have gotten a couple quotes and compared to the some from last year they are easily 10,000 added to the old price.
It was about 7000+1500 for the tile
@@TomLeeman Thanks for the response. I am getting quotes for $17,000 for similar work in about the same size pool. When just last year they quoted around what you just said.
@@totallynottrademarked5279 for a resurfacing?
@@islandwayaustin Yeah. Crazy. Some light paver work around one of the drains where ants undermined them. Other than that it is just resurfacing.
Some company here in San Antonio quoted me 18k similar size but in quote it was 11k in labor cost
We dump it with the acid? What does it do?>
I think it cures it or seals it in someway I’m not really sure
What’s the going price for this needed to do this to my pool
This is right around eight grand
@@TomLeeman thank you where are you located?
What's the cost to redo all of it?
When you include the new tile which was kind of expensive, it came out to about 7500
Is there any concern with the integrity of the pool with the water drained?
Yes, that’s kind of dangerous because sometimes they can pop up but hopefully you try to get it done as fast as possible possible
@@TomLeeman Thanks for the reply. So what precautions do you take to prevent that?
Hi what was the cost of this job? I have a similar pool situation.
With the purchase of the tile it was about $8000
@@TomLeeman How many days did this take before you could swim in the pool?
@@rachelharriott5101 first you have to let the chlorine dissipate before you drain it then it takes a full day to drain it then you’ve got to go in and bust out any bubbles in cracks and you have to clean all the debris from the interior if you’re redoing your tile that will take at least a day maybe two to terret out and put in the new and then one day to put the diamond Brite on and a day to fill the pool back up so it’s gonna be about a week. Good luck thanks for watching.
How much did it cost for this pool?
This was just about eight grand
Was that for labor as well?
Why mix like that why not a paddle mixer seems harder I been doing this for years never seen it mixed in a barrel nice job
Thanks for the comments. Any other constructive criticism that you have let me know. Thanks for watching.
@@TomLeeman when I do my bond kote I broom the walls left to right instead of up an down helps keep it on the walls with no sag or drop off when you trowel on your first scratch during plastering.
Why did they add muriatic acid at the end?
I believe that makes it cure and harden up because they fill it right after
@@TomLeeman ok thanks
I got a quote for 25$ grand to do this and tile. Sound like to much?
As three times more than these guys charged
What's the purpose of pouring acid ?
I guess it says the coating
Expose the aggregate.
Hi can you help me give all the product name from A to Z and where I can buy ??? Please
The stuff that they resurface the pool with is called diamond bright and if you Google it, you should be able to find somebody close to you who has it the tile I bought from the Tile Store I’m not sure the name of it and the mud that you used to put it on has to be a waterproof so you may have to do a little research on that one. Good luck. Thanks for watching.
How much did you charge for this job?
About 7500
Damn the way they were throwing that hydrochloric acid around is terrifying. My safety engineer would die if he saw us even pick up a bottle barehanded in the lab 😅
I know right I mean how about some masks these guys are crazy
Is the commentator Clark Howard?
Yes, he is. Thanks for watching.
@@TomLeeman genius!!! lol we are getting ready to do this to our pool lol
What was the cost?
7k
@@TomLeeman 7K? Where are you located, I need this done in Pensacola, FL.
WHAT WAS TOTAL COST?
About 8000
So labour intensive I want to. buy fiberglass
Yeah, this takes about five days one day to drain it one day to chip out all of the tile and grout one day to pop all the bubbles and holes and tear out all the loose diamond Brite one day to put the tile on one day to let it dry and fix itself and then you need about 10 guys to come here and put the diamond Brite on and then you gotta fill it up which takes a day. It’s a whole process.
For a point of reference, can anyone give me their best estimate of how much this job would cost today?
I think about eight grand
30k
WHO is the Company? Why not credit the creator
These guys didn’t even have a name for their company. They were just a bunch of blokes that came over and did the work.
Is this crew for hire?
I don’t think so. I tried to get them to come back and fix some things, and they just ghosted me.
They should’ve pressure washed the pool after they chipped everything out. The pressure wash was pointless since there was more dust created. Another thing is the shell of the pool should be dried with weed burner torches unless the sun dried it out. If the old plaster or gunite is wet or damp the bond kote won’t adhere as well. Also I can’t believe none of them are wearing PPE. I do this exact process for my job everyday and there is so much bad stuff in there Omgggg 🤢
Thanks for that constructive criticism anything else that you say that you know is incorrect please write it in the comments these guys or not the most professional
Pressure wash? Not acid wash?
Complete guide “It’s a B”
HOW MUCH DID THIS COST YOU?
Well, the tile was $1500 and the job was 7500
@Tom Leeman where at in the US?
@@whitephoenixfire88 Florida
@@TomLeeman that seemed like a LOT of work for $7500 to be divided among all those guys. It was extremely labor intensive. I thought some of the applications were very sloppy (and dangerous) but cheap labor comes with a price. Always.
@@TomLeemanyes understood. But they cannot spend or eat tile. So they had to divide the $7500 for the labor part.
It is not going to be an inch thick
I think that you could be correct
Typically a professional would tape your waterline tile off. ESPECIALLY GLASS TILE
I don’t think these guys are professionals
No necessarily, if done correct it can be cleaned during the process as they did and after with a brush and flat head to remove any plaster in the grout. However, I did find it odd that they did not acid wash it prior to adding bond kote and no mixer?¿
@@richggg4050 please add any other comments or criticisms that you see I appreciate it. These guys made a lot of mistakes.
My dad would use duct sometimes.
So this is more of a guide to what it looks like when you hire someone to redo your pool 🤣
Yes, you could say that
@@TomLeeman I imagine that was a very expensive project. Not many people know how to do this kind of work anymore. In 2014 I was quoted $20,000 for a pebble tech finish on my very ugly 17,000 gunite pool.

How do you deal with hyrdostatic pressure once draining the pool?
Theres no why I can accomplish this in a day before having to fill back up the pool before jt shifts?
Our pool was empty for about a week. It’s weird to bust out all the holes and holes tear out all the tile and it was fine.
@@TomLeeman maybe that's why it was ok. The holes released the pressure
I'm a big DIY'er. I've built additions, rewired my whole home, and many other big projects but after careful research I'm thinking this job is much bigger than what a man and his wife can do....😆
