Even with the ending, this was so much better than the sequel. I had high expectations after watching this masterpiece and the modern day was such a disappointing conclusion to their love story.
@atozot09 yes. This is One & Only. Forever & Ever is the 'part 2'. With same actors playing Sheng Chen & Shi Yi. If you look at the drama by itself, it's honestly not a bad drama. Just not quite what I was hoping for in a sequel. They do finally get their HEA, however, which was nice to see.

The sequel would had been so much better if it had the angst and intensity of the first one, but the pacing fizzled out half-way through. I was surprised there weren’t more call backs to the original story. That would have been nice to see. The second wasn’t terrible, but neglected continuity and wasted opportunities in connecting to the other story.
Completely, unrelated to this series. But, this scene so reminds me of the novel scene from Til the End of the Moon. Thanks to Bai Lu for making this come to life for me since she plays Ye Xi Wu in the tv version of that book. This makes me think she really was destined for that role.

Великолепная роль, великолепное исполнение. Человек с сильной волей, но еще он заботливый, нежный, любящий!!! Как было сложно жить и любить в то время, с такими строгими ограничениями, чтобы не опорочить честь влиятельной семьи.. Когда убили ее любимого Наставника, она не захотела жить без него... Она была уверена, что соединится с ним в другой жизни... Очень трогательно..., до слёз !! ❤❤❤❤❤ Рекомендую!!❤

I don't know much about story in detail.... Her lover killed brutally by king, because he likes the female lead, after knowing her lover is dead, she committed suicide....this drama have sequel with same actors called forever and ever with happy ending
I'm guessing it might have been her way of entering eternity as virtuous and virginal as before her relationship with the Emperor out of duty and loyalty but not due to her own desire. She had been in love with someone else since childhood but could never marry him: fate, destiny, etc., had other plans for her. Knowing she was about to end her life on her own terms for her own reasons, she dressed in red, the wedding color, her thoughts that we hear as she's ascending the stairs speak to her love that if there is an afterlife, she asked him to marry her first: she wouldn't be a concubine, she'd be a wife. Removing the wrap/shawl at the first landing of the staircase was the beginning of setting herself free of the palace restrictions; her hair adornments and earrings was her way of rejecting all things Emperor, palace, wealth, forced relationship and mandatory physical relations with the Emperor; all things she had to do but didn't want to do. The more 'wealth' she removed, the freer she became and the more she returned to her true self. It was her way of starting all over again in the afterlife, fresh, clean, unsoiled, new, innocent, vibrant and worthy of her one true love. But that's just how I interpreted it: I could be completely wrong in my assessment.
never understand these love stories without a real romance or kiss scene even if it was a forbidden love ..i just never felt the chemistry between the ML or FL .. i didn’t feel emotionally involved in their love story .. great acting from everyone but way too much unnecessary deaths …

I love this series. I'm glad she didn't c him died. Bc it took hrs. I also love their 2nd series when they are a 2nd time centuries later.
I skipped this one as it looked too painful to watch, but did watch the sequel, which was a lovely love story.
They go together the happy ending is their 2nd life together.
This was sad though had me almost crying almost every episode.

我原本是因為這一段被白鹿圈粉的,但她没有因為被認同有功力,轉而跟前輩孫儷或趙麗穎愛惜自己[認真的慎選能讓自己更上一層樓的劇本]反而像一個地攤貨一樣只要能上境頭什麼角色都接,我已經對她起反感了,而她也因接了一堆不知所謂的角色把我對時宜我讚嘆完全消磨殆盡,原很喜歡的鑽石,變成滿地都是的石頭,這是我個人的感想
內地就沒有好劇本，她又一直參加綜藝
