They sure do! I used their tool to remove the barrel nut. I like having teeth over a smooth barrel nut though. The one I used is a Savage patterned barrel nut so I can use my savage barrel nut wrench with it.
It’s a bolt action I took my 308 tc compass for the project and the barrel came from x caliber also shoots amazing and it’s sitting on a Boyd’s stock and it’s bedded also
Yea that makes sense the drop off after 300 because it’s such a heavy projectile. Sounds like your barrel life will be as good or better then a 308 since it’s going 300 FPS slower. Have you taken an hog’s or what ever you like to hunt? Thinking this would maybe offer a one shot per customer for a good 250+ lbs Boar/s. Is the barrel on your savage also an Excalibur, memory got me I think that was a fluted bull barrel in 308? That 375 is cool, that savage is gorgeous.
Barrel on my Savage is an X-caliber as well. It’s a Savage Big Varmint profile which means it tapers down to about .810. It’s definitely a heavy barrel and the spiral flutes help reduce weight. It’s chambered in 6.5WSM. Barrel life will not be as good as the .375 Raptor. You are right about barrel life being better than .308. It’s a soft shooting gun and one shot, one kill for big hogs. 6.5WSM is a wildcat based on .270 WSM but with better selection of bullets and better BC for long range. I’ll do a video on the Savage shortly to really go over everything on it.
Looks almost identical to my 375 raptor. I got a savage 110, preferred barrel blanks 18" #4 sporter, vortex razor hd light hunter and the green magpul hunter stock.
Nice build! I had to use a spanner wrench for my PTG barrel nut, of course this was back in the day when they were the only option in the game. Are you going with a Bug Nuts barrel nut in the future?
@@yellowhammeroutdoors5516 I'm finishing converting brass now. Then I need to start on my loads. Still haven't finalized what optic I'm going to go with
Great question, I considered the .338 federal and I actually use .338 federal brass to form 375R. However, 375 RAPTOR changes the shoulder angle from 20 degrees to 35 degrees to provide a well defined datum point for the cartridge to headspace. In addition, the 375 RAPTOR is .150″ shorter than the 308 Winchester which permits up to .935″ of bullet exposure while keeping within magazine length - required to load the 350 grain Sierra Match King magazine length. This allows me to load very heavy bullets and still be able to load them in short action magazines. This gives me much more energy down range than a .338 federal ever could and also gives me the flexibility to load high energy subsonic rounds, should I have the inclination.
Whitetail and hogs. It packs quite a punch. Everything has been dead where it stood without taking another step. Planning on making this my round for Nilgai, as well.
@@yellowhammeroutdoors5516 I’ve always archery hunted Ga whitetail and was looking at this round as a candidate but wondering if it’s too much. Most shots would be within 200 yards.
When I first built mine, I wondered the same thing but I think it’s a perfect round for GA Whitetail. I hunt quite a bit in Laurens County, south of Macon, and it’s my favorite woods rifle. Can shoot through brush if I need to and you can get away with an 18-20” barrel making it very handy in the woods.
I ended up going with a 20” barrel. That was a good length for velocity trade off while still having something that would be very handy, especially with a can attached.
@@yellowhammeroutdoors5516 where are you pulling your load data from I used the load data from the raptor website and got pressure signs even at the minimum charge.
I’m having to work up loads myself comparing what’s on the Raptor website with known data for loads like .358 Winchester. What powders are you using? I haven’t had any blown primers or hard bolts yet.
@@yellowhammeroutdoors5516 I was using 1200-r and 235grn speer. But I'm thinking of trying some h4895. I've never worked up loads from scratch so I'm still reading up on it
I like H4895 powder. For H4895, you could start at about 42 grains and work your way up to about 46.5 grains. Something else to keep on hand is a powder burn rate chart to compare burn rates for different powders.
I went with a #8 light target contour. I wouldn’t recommend any bigger for the Hunter stock, it’s a perfect fit and free floats but you might run into issues with larger contours.
I’m glad to see somone talking about one of my favorite cartridges, hard to find much of anything on it these days
I love the 375 Raptor. I plan on making more videos for it here within the next few months.

Thanks, brother. It’s been years in the making. Be sure to hit that subscribe button. Next video will have a giveaway.
I kept and used the oem barrel nut. Little crow works makes a barrel nut wrench for the Ruger American to reuse it.

375 Raptor is an awesome round!

I have left the PTG barrel nut on there for now but I have been eyeing the Bug Nuts barrel nut for a little while and I may upgrade here soon.
I have to wonder how many of the .308 off shoots are going to be around in 50 years.
.375 is definitely a wildcat cartridge. Niche cartridge, for sure.
🇦🇺😎👍Noice
Do you have any trouble maintaining the headspace when you reload?
No problem with headspace at all.
I built the same thing on a Ruger American.
I love the platform and caliber. How are you enjoying your build?

I’ve been developing 250gr. and 270gr. Loads using Benchmark. I’ll be doing a video soon with the results on that.

Why not use the 338 Federal with 250 grain bullets?

Do you start with a 308 and just change the barrel to that caliber?
Yes, 375 Raptor is based on a .308 caliber so it is easiest to do it that way. You can use any short action rifle caliber with a .308 bolt face.
what did you use for go and no go! gauge?
Headspace gauge can be bought from Pacific Tool & Gauge.
I would like to order that Barrel I have a 308 doner action can you help me Order the right Barrel? and Barrel nut. Thank you!
You can order the barrel and barrel but directly from X-Caliber. They have a sale going on currently.

I am using Lee dies. They work great, I have a full length sizing die and the seating die.
