    I remember Pope Cyril III speaking about the Armenian Orthodox presence in Egypt, and even spoke about our cooperation in having their catholicos sending a bishop for the Armenians to pray their rites in Egypt. So this is about 11th century.

      Under these circumstances, which patriarch would have been commemorated?

    • @dioscoros
      @dioscoros 6 месяцев назад

      @@TheCopticParabolanos the Armenian one, most likely, since their bishop (while sanctioned by the Coptic Orthodox Patriarchate) is himself under the Armenian Catholicate. But it is possible that they commemorated both patriarchates for their own context.

    Okay, here's the citation (it involves the Sees of Alexandria, Antioch, and Armenia); Pope Cyril III ibn Laqlaq of Alexandria, Response to a Letter from Patriarch Mor Ignatius III David of Antioch:
    "It has been known to all the patriarchs since the splits of the church [into patriarchates], that each patriarch became the caretaker of his [own] people who reside in other areas, including areas under other patriarchs. So, you were informed, along with the Armenian patriarch as well as others: the patriarch of Armenia preaches the Gospel to his people who are in Egypt, and although they are only a few, yet they have had one bishop after another until now to instruct people in their traditions and language, and they believe in the true faith that was confirmed by Anba Severus and Anba Dioscorus. You have in Egypt one monastery with only forty monks, and yet you have appointed a bishop to it, with the mantle of your authority; we do not deny (you) this right, as each people is aware of its own needs."
    Note that this involves every jurisdiction of the Universal Church, since this is before there was any autocephaly to those who were then under the 3 patriarchates. For the medieval Orthodox Church, it didn't matter if another patriarch had jurisdiction within our own patriarchate, so long as they maintained communion and the true faith (that of Sts Dioscorus and Severus). It gives us all a lot to think about.

    Hey Daniel, love your content.
    I was wondering where I could find the document showing that the majority of Bishops labeled the 2nd Ecumenical council of Ephesus as ecumenical, that is of course before the whole Pope Leo event that came after

    Greetings from Ethio/Eritrean Oriental Orthodox. I have a question about Assarian Christians, they call themselves "The Church of the East". They have some similarities with Oriental Orthodox, but also their dogma drifted towards Catholics. I am curious what makes them different from Oriental Orthodox.

    ST SAWERIS TAUGHT THAT CHRIST'S FLESH IS INCORRUPTIBLE FROM THE UNION:
    "Does not Christ offer himself to us thus [like the ark]? He is one from two, from the Godhead as from gold that shines in bright splendor, and from humanity which is removed from corruptedness as imputrescible wood on account of the conception of the God-Logos in purity, without seed, worked by the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary... In fact the word: 'Inside and out the wood was plated with gold' means that. Notice here how appropriate the symbol is: as that imputrescible wood is indeed from natural wood and of the same type (genos) and of the same essence (ousia) as all other timbers which decay attacks and destroys, with the one exception that this is imputrescible [that is, not subject to decay]; so too was the flesh of Christ, endowed with a rational, spiritual soul, of the same type (genos), of the same nature (physis) and the same essence (ousia) as ours; it had, however, one advantage: it was free and far from the corruptedness of sin. For it was conceived of the Holy Spirit by the Virgin; and it was united to the Logos, to him who has committed no sin and in whose mouth there was no deceit. Moreover, as the wood of the ark stood above decay and was free of it but could still be cut up and burned, so indeed the whole pure body of Christ had no share in sin and the corruptedness resulting from it, but could nevertheless suffer mishandling, blows, injury, death and all suffering of this sort. And when he came into the tomb and descended into the underworld, he had still not yet experienced the corruptedness which is present there, and this because of his resurrection from the dead. Thus it follows that the body of Christ has shown itself in everything as incorruptible, because he was in no way subjected to the debasement that comes from sin; certainly he was susceptible to the corruption which is tied to death and burial but has excluded it without being seized by it, on account of its union with the Logos. For the latter is by his very nature incorruptible, impassible and immortal."
    Homily 67 of St Saweris
    THUS IT FOLLOWS THAT THE BODY OF CHRIST HAS SHOWN ITSELF IN EVERYTHING AS INCORRUPTIBLE.
