I mean if you repeatedly throw yourself at the enemy you may end up with decent damage but you'll get absolutely no gold or XP (Ryze was level 9 and 2nd lowest gold in the match).
It's even more misleading if they FF15, sometimes I'll have a decent advantage in lane from getting 1/2 kills then zoning the enemy laner until they FF at 15 minutes so my damage is like 2k, but that's because the game ended before I got to fight at all.
