Heyy i love your videos from phil
Ok Boss
Number one
2nd place
3rd place hahaha
A few months after I got out of the army. I was invited to a Gala in Las Vegas 2013 where I was lucky enough to meet Tom Norris and his friend Mike Thornton i was lucky enough to hold both of their medal of honors. Both great men very down-to-earth. There were a lot of Medal of Honor recipients at that Gala and I got to spend about a week hanging out with some of the coolest people on the planet
Thank you for your service and theirs as well 🙏
They are recipients not winners of the Medal of Honor. But it's cool you got to hold them. I have met a few Medal of Honor recipients in my time in and they are the humblest (not sure if I spelled that right) men.
@@djbeezy I edited it. You're one hundred percent right. Thanks for catching that for me
@@snappers_antique_firearms not a problem man 😊😊
If you meet them again, tell them that their stories and their amazing works, had made them very popular on RUclips. I had never heard of them before. But since I watched this video, I can only give a salute to Mr Norris
im honestly amazed he was able to decipher that code lol
You have to know someone really well to make a code like that. Fun game to play with your best friends. Write them a code based on what you know about them and let them decipher the message. The more you know about someone the easier it is to make for them a secret code.
Yo JOEEE
Well duh
It reminds me of the lost in translation scne in Ocean's 12.
I cannot imagine how he must have felt as an "air guy" being on the ground. Terrifying!
yeah when you're working with stuff in airplanes (i can kinda confirm i play dcs, a very realistic flight sim) you often think like "oh thats just 20 miles away, ill be there in a minute or 2". but when you're suddenly wounded on the ground, i can imagine that its quite humbling to have such difficult reaching even 50 meters.
So true,
I admire his ability to stay calm after everything. Dude even reported on the enemies in his surroundings. That's nerves of steel.
Hambelton: I'M GONNA DIE!!!!
11 navy seals: *ALL FOR ONE AND ONE FOR ALL!!*
Really? Another meme to get likes? Get a life
@@-Sam69 Sure
@@-Sam69 you okay bud
Not all of the one's that died were SEAL's, in fact there were 3 SEAL operators still left in Vietnam at the time it happened, most of them were other service personnel..
Their sacrifices were not in vain
They really took "no one's left behind" to the whole new level.
BTW, how he deciphered those "golf" codes 10/10 is beyond me. I would have ended up in another river for sure.
Tom Norris picked golf courses that Hamilton often golfed at. After reviewing his files, Tom picked those courses specifically. He knew that he knew them like the back of his hand!
THIS should be the campaign for the new COD game.

People sadly ask why so many soldiers would risk their lives to rescue one or two men trapped behind enemy lines. I can only imagine what would keep a person from doing everything they're capable of to save them, and didn't know any soldiers that didn't feel the same way.
One thing is what you feel. Another thing is the fact you know the expected outcome is more death. You can't honestly say that one man is worth more than a 99% chance of far more dying.
You're referring to 'they'll do everything to save him because they expect the same to be done for them if they were in his state'
@@bobthegoat7090 if that man had a kid at home, I wouldn't think twice about it. Even if they didn't we still went wheels up as soon as the briefings finished and issued equipment. That's the difference between then and now, there's more training and less "let's see what happens"...Ma Deuce, mini guns, and the best pilots in MH-60s doesn't hurt tho.
@@evamkaushik5392 nah, it was my job. I meant I didn't get how you can willingly leave another soldier to die. Enough went home in boxes without being abandoned.
you also have to remember if it’s a high ranking officer who knows things the government doesn’t want our enemies knowing… if they don’t trust them to keep quiet forever they’ll want to get them out of there before they break. but that is a pretty specific scenario
These people are all living legends. In this time period, Uncommon Valor is exceptionally common.
So much respect to the Vietnamese commando that volunteered for the rescue. What a badass.
An amazing mind that could remember so many different holes from different courses.
Navy SEALs are America's best of the best in rescuing the pilot in Vietnam battling against the North Vietnamese Army, eleven Navy SEALs who fought and died like warriors in saving the pilot's life is a timeless form of honor, courage and commitment to the mission
There is no greater love than he who lays down his life for his his fellow man. Among brothers in arms they are the most respected and honored.
How about deleting himself so the others do not have to die in the rescue mission?
Hambleton had top secret access to strategic air command and nuclear weapons knowledge, he was no ordinary man
He should have never been allowed to fly that mission for that reason and the end result.
@@OneOut1 strategic air command was short on navigators or something like that and he volunteered. I’ll try and find the link and share it its a good read dark docs has a more general informed video about him and the operation
I just cant explain how much respect i have for men like this. This to me is a real true tough guy! God bless these men and there families. I know we are years past this war but a story like this should be told in American war history all over the country. Im happy i came across this story! 👍🏻
I thought the video was about to start with:
"This video is sponsored by the cold war." I was quite concerned.
Same
Bahaha That would definitely be a cause for concern.
To hear the real story read Tom Norris/Mike Thornton’s book, or the interview jocko willink did with Mike and Tom. Very heroic men.
Well done, our American soldiers.
We respect our American heroes honorably. 🇺🇸

Well done? You traded 11 lives for 2. That is not well done. That is: What were you thinking?
@@bobthegoat7090 its called sacrifice

these are my favourite type of videos. war videos where someone has to survive and goes through all types of things
You have to do a video on Randy Shughart and Gary Gordon. Both were US Special Forces Soldiers who Volunteered to go in to certain death to rescue a downed piolt. Both died, but the piolt lived.
They went in to buy time for the rescue crew they knew it was pretty much hopeless

Whenever he said at the end that the lone soldier said to the the reporter “an American soldier was down of course I’ll do it again “ lit an extremely burning fire of inspiration in my core like I could physically feel it despite all the chaos this man’s been through exhaustion and futility he had to endure regardless if death was the outcome he’d risk everything to come back an rescue his fellow Conrad
I remember seeing that Gene Hackman movie BAT-21 years ago. Pretty good movie as I recall.

You have a medal of honor on Hambleton at the end of the video when it should be on Norris. Just a heads up!

I didn't expected the Vietnamese camando to also get an award being mentioned but nice
Dude mic dropped that reporter with one line like true American soldier. I bet that reporter still couldn't understand why. He doesn't understand the brotherhood that all soldiers feel for each other. They maybe from different branches and talk trash to each other but in the end they are all brothers in arms.
IT TOOK 11 MEN TO RESCUE A SINGLE GUY
US: I WILL NEVER FINANCIALLY RECOVER FROM THIS
Don't forget all the crashed planes and helicopters

Bat21 is a crazy good movie, Gene Hackman and Danny Glover were amazing!!

Men are willing to take on dangerous missions knowing that they will not be left behind. That knowledge goes for all fighters.
I love how in the promo it went from diplomacy to all out nuclear war
There's more information in this video than in the documentary. AWESOME JOB....
I wonder how many rescue mission we're gonna have to do in Kabul?

Y’all are a great channel thank you for these videos!!
I was surprised this wasn’t about Marcus Luttrel during Operation Red Wings. Incredible, but gruesome story.
I think more than 11 people died to rescue him
if i'm not mistaken 19 people died there
I love being civil and respectful
4:50 talks about A-1 skyraider *shows footage of A-7 Corsair II*
I always wait for these Military story videos
Crazy how brave
Yeah it cost the lives of 11 team members. I’m sure it cost the Vietnamese a lot more trying to stop it. Compared to a lot of other battles in that war the cost was more than worth it for the Americans. Morale wise also.
It's hard to say these men were worth loosing to save this man. I doubt anyone would really say that. But many brave men are willing to risk there lives to rescue 1 man. That's because all of our fighting men and women are very important, And in my opinion worth dying for. I'm guessing if your doing dangerous missions in witch you can be killed, just knowing that if possible you will be rescued makes all or a big difference in what your willing to do. Thanks to all our fighting men and women!
There is so many war stories that need to have a movie

So 1+1=1 hah that is a Successful mission
To mock the dead who heroically gave their lives is to mock that which you know not nor will you understand the words of honor such men live by. RIP the hero’s who fight fights for others all else are too cowardly to as such do not understand the sacred nature and love of life.
@@targeted-individualdallas-9963 let's be honest. If that's was an ordinary soldier they would have not risked so many lives. They only did it because ham's nuclear knowledge. Rest in peace to those fallen soldiers tho. Such bravery shall never be forgotten

USAF and US navy call signs go like Bat two one and Bat two two. Not twenty one and twenty two. On a second note, they should make this story into a movie
They did make a movie starring Gene Hackman and Danny Glover

Wow, just wow
There was a movie made of this. I believe it was named Bat 21 and Danny Glover was the pilot of a slow flying search airplane that had radio contact with the downed pilot.
Tom norris - Chuck's lost twin.
The 42nd ECS, the squadron he was assigned to when shot down, has a driver he used to own.

Off the title alone I know it’s Tommy Noris. Be sure to get his book “By Honor Bound” , Tommy Norris and Mike Thornton. Both Medal of Honor recipients. Mike received his SAVING Tommy , after the BAT21 mission happened

Navy SEALs are NOT soldiers they are sailors. Soldiers are in the Army.
Cool
Sure boss sure
And Marines are Marines not soldiers
That bugs me too but you can't expect people that never served to know that.
Navy SEALs are not sailors lol. They are in the Navy, sure, but the Navy has fighter pilots too. Are they sailors? Navy has SEALs, Army has Rangers, and Marines have Green berets.
