I did the exact same thing about 3 years ago with an identical model axe, one I found in an old shed when I moved into my property. Mine needed the socket re-welding, and I couldn't source quite as nice handle as you, but still pleased with the results.
I know what you were going for, but I would of left a little more meat on the blade, but nonetheless it came out stunning, really amazing work and so many tools and knowledge at your disposal, well done...just subbed
Beautiful design on the axe. I have a different opinion, though; using sandpaper left the axe looking like a practical but fancy axe. However, further polishing it on the wheel to that aluminum look was quite an overkill. Unless the axe is for display purposes only, I don’t see how it would be suitable for daily use. Otherwise, great job in cutting the axe to that size. The handle looks very nice too.
That came out really nice. I've wanted to do one of those but can't bring myself to change the shape on an old antique axe-head. Maybe if I come across one that's already badly damaged i'll go that direction. But very nice work.
The Viking design was due in the past to a lack of metal thus they stretched it out now their ancestors have so much metal they can discard it. Interesting as they saved metal for spears and swords.
@@reborntools I’m surprised given the amount of heat you put into it via grinding and sanding. Then again, I suspect this is mostly decorative vs daily functional.
@reborntools it looked like the front of the eye had a crack that was maybe opened a bit during cleaning. I have seen this a few times on old heads. When I find it I like to weld it to secure things and fill in any odd gap.
Lots of work with beautiful results.
Well done!
Thank you! Cheers!
Though I preferred the original shape, it still turned out gorgeous
Next one will be kept original, thanks for the comment!
Yes it was a really nice « kent pattern » type hatchet. It’s a British style type of axes and hatchets..
Awesome work! Beautiful axe!!😁👍🔧🛠️
Thank you bud!

I'm sure it came out nice too. Next time make some video of it 🙂
Well done mate. A lot of work but you've an impressive axe.
Thanks bud!
Top job, a really nice viking axe.! You have all the right gear, and you really know your stuff. Greetings from Australia
Thanks very much! Greetings 🙏
very nicely done.. question: would the steel surface not rust over time if unprotected like that? I don't know - it's a basic question.
Yes it will rust, need to be oiled up after use...

Thank you! I just wanted a more viking style finish. I don't think it's ever will be used properly, more like a display in my workshop:-)
excellent focus on details! stunning outcome
Thank you sir!
Awesome. What was the white wax/treatment you put on the handle? Thanks
Thanks!
That's osmo oil. Normally used for kitchen worktops.
Well done, i prefer the previous shape, but great work 😊
Thanks!
I made another one where I kept the original shape.
That is an amazing remake!
Thank you🙂

Some great skills on show but the original was a fine looking axe. I think I would have liked to see it preserved.
Next time!
I have an old hatchet like that. I got it as a head and two handles. My restro was much less ambitious. But it is a powerful fire pit hatchet.
Hello, a very nice job, could you perhaps send me the link to the Osmo oil
Sure

I tried, but you tube doesn't let me send a link.
Just Google it, bring it up straight away..
What did you use to coat the handle? Beautiful build!
I used some osmo oil. People use that stuff for doors and kitchen worktops.
NICE. Work.!!!!
Thanks!!!
Very nice job but the original shape was far superior.
Thanks
Disagree.
The cut-down version is far superior...
@lawrieflowers8314 agree 🙂
Additionally , removing a considerable amount of mass reduces the energy for chopping , etc !
I love the "hit the like button" at 05:14 when pretending to show the beautiful gloss finish 😉.
I'm glad you recognised it 🙂

It's more like display than daily use.

Great work there.

Thanks bud, I will keep the shape of the next one, what I already started...
斧頭と柄のバランスは悪いですが、とても綺麗な修復でした。
Thanks
Well that was fun to watch! 👌
I'm glad to hear that, thanks.
WOW just outstanding work!!
Thank you !
Stunning work.
Thank you!
Только испортил. Был лучше.
Really nice work and transformation
Thank you!
It looks too pretty to use. What was that white stuff you put in the handle?
Thank you!
The white stuff is osmo oil (normally used for hardwood kitchen worktops)

Another great restoring. I simply lover your work.👏👏
I'm glad to hear that! Thanks very much!
Can’t you use the belt sander to do a lot if the work you did on the handle with the file?
Hand file and rasp more controllable 🙂
Why did you do this to such a awesome antique... it wasn't even damaged beyond restoration
That's OK 🙂
Awesome! Well done!
Thanks a lot!
A really cool hachet well done on restoring it👍
Thank you! 🙂
❤❤❤❤❤Super Super 👍👍👍👍👍👍💞
Thank you ❤️
If it was an ordinary kindling hatchet you ruined I wouldn't mind. That was a well crafted single bevel Kent pattern carpenters axe.
That's OK, still plenty of them around 😉
Hey dhuber, I've got a well crafted single bevel Kent pattern carpenters axe that hasn't been "ruined". Want to buy it?
@@stretch130MFEI dare you to ruin it

You need to make one 🙂
Cooool again 😊😮❤
Thanks again!🙂
Nice restoration 👏👏👏
Thanks!🙂
What did he wipe on the handle? It darkened up quite a bit.
I used osmo oil . Can be used linseed oil too.
The wallnut wood is already dark wood, and the oil makes it even darker...
That's a beautiful hatchet
Thanks!
I wonder how well the temper held up?
Very well...

American black wallnut

Why didn't you address the issues with the eye? What looked like a crack and a resulting odd forward profile.
I don't get it.

strangest head seating ive seen i cant lie, i dont the point of cutting out the cross section but then not putting another wedge lmao
I changed my mind I didn't put the cross wedge in , I thought that will split the handle...
@@reborntools ah gotcha
The fact that he cut away like 30% of the axe hurts my soul.
What a dumb thing to do...reduced the strength as well as the lifespan of the axe...
You have a week soul 😁
That was a antique worth about 900$
No, plenty of them in carboot sale. Got it for £3 😉
Beautifull, but metal part is too light, wood part is to big
