For those not from Southeast Louisiana, the Honey Island Swamp is a real place just north of New Orleans adjacent to the Louisiana/Mississippi state line. It is a popular area for hunting and hiking. Parts of the year it is mostly flooded, but in late fall and winter it is lovely and dry. I have spent many pleasant hours just wandering aimlessly around hoping I will be able to find my way back out! I am going to have to trek down to the French Quarter to pick up a bottle of this ink. If you are ever in New Orleans, you will probably venture into the Quarter at some point. Make sure to visit the shop. It is a tiny place with a feel of antiquity. For a small shop they have loads of journals, pens, inks, and other interesting stationery supplies.
Thanks for the local lore 💚
Very funny name as the Japanese call fountain pen ink collecting The Ink Swamp 😂. I've ordered a bottle just for the Bigfoot stamp. The olive green ink, wax sticks and gold are a bonus 👌
Got your letter today my friend! I worked with Hank Bauer and Ted Leitner at KFMB-TV. Loved the wax seal. And the writing sample! Thank you for your kindness.
Thanks for the interesting review. You added informational comments are very enjoyable.
As usual I went on the site to buy a bottle. Just for the story, it was worth it. Rachelle in Seattle
“No, Officer, I’m not inhaling the wax fumes.” We’ll vouch for you, David, if you get arrested for lighting up.
I have a very old seal with a wood handle that is flat on the side that is the bottom. It’s so simple and brilliant. If i need to make more than seal, I rest the stamp on a blue-ice type rectangle.
I suppose it makes sense that a swamp-creature ink would have good water resistance, but I want expecting it have that much staying power. Bonus!
I just got my box and need to get the ink into a pen today.
I always enjoy your ink reviews because of the interesting content you share in your writing samples. I do want to know what happened to those chimps. I hope they reveled in their freedom and did, indeed, adapt.
Thank you for the review!
I was about to comment on David's statement only I do not think he was intimating wax inhalation but something to do with a teaspoon and syringe! 🤣 I have a paper embosser that I found abandoned in a cupboard at an office we were moving from. It is like one of those older style staplers but made of cast iron. I would like to replace the die (about 2.5cm diameter) with something that identifies more with my family but that is on the to-do list. Anyhow, it makes the Basildon Bond paper look a bit more special with the stamp at the centre of the header.
from a safety standpoint I would advise using a shallow metal tray when playing with the wax so that flammability risk is minimised! Happy writing, waxing and sealing!
I can always appreciate a green ink! It's my favourite colour, and I've been keeping an eye out for a potential replacement to my Diamine Sherwood Green. Having studied some minerals in the past, I will say that Monteverde has the shade of olivine much better than Pelikan has. The name of the mineral is a hint - it comes from its olive-greenish hue.
When you wrote the first sample sentence, I seriously thought the Honey Island Swamp Monster was going to jump over the lazy dog. 😂
