This is the Joan Baez/Fleet Foxes standard take on an old folksong about a suitor trying to gain the hand of a lover and the parents being less than well-disposed to the idea. Wikipedia has a great and detailed page about it. This is essentially the same song/song-family as my previously posted “I will set my ship in order”.
