It is so nice to make a custom bowl with wood that means something to the customer. If a neighbour provides me with a log from their tree I make them a bowl from it too, for free. My best was making a bowl for the daughter of a dying good friend, from a willow tree that she used to play on as a child. It is now her favourite piece.
I like listening to creators talk about what they are doing and why. It's interesting to learn just incase I ever get a lathe. Keep talking in your videos
I really like hearing you discuss your process and how you are doing things. It is really interesting to watch the economy of movement that can produce a very nice looking bowl so quickly.
A pleasure to see skilled production turning -- the efficiency, the tool mastery, the economy of motion, the speed. And still a beautiful bowl, pleasing lines and attention to detail. I love the deep color that pear develops and your client should be continually delighted through the years with her artisanal bowl. Thank you for your generous time and sharing. Greg
I always watch your new videos and enjoy your no nonsense description of what you are doing. I always learn something. It was 39 degrees Celsius here in central Victoria, Australia, yesterday, to hot to go near my shed so warched all the 4ways videos for February instead. Amazing work.
Nice work. For the past month or so I’ve been using my bowl scraper to finish the inside bottom of my bowls like you and Richard Raffan do. It’s working very well for me. It’s quicker and the finish is much better than any other way I’ve used. Thanks for sharing your techniques!
Your talking is fine and is what attracted me to your chan. It does not slow you down or get in the way as you work. Please no duck taping; just video taping !
I watched one of your videos where you didn’t talk the process through and I felt a bit disappointed. Your talking through out the turning is what makes you stand out in my opinion. You have a great way of communicating and making a difficult process seem easy! I hope you never change. You are the standard by which other turning videos should be judged. You and RR!
Good morning. As always your work is amazing. Question for you. I’m looking to buy a new chuck or two for my shop. What are the two that you’re using? I have a Nova chuck but as I stated im looking to add a few more.
another great performance. you operate at a high level. do you have black locust(robinia pseudoacacia) trees in your area? I was wondering if they can be used for making food grade bowls after oiling/waxing for cold foods like salad, cereal etc. Thanks for sharing your techniques and skill.
Thank you very much, A lot of folks would say to stay away from them for food contact but I haven't found much merrid to that, I have several of rough out black locust but usually for more decorative bowls
I used to work with a guy that was so fast, but I work slow and steady and employ solid techniques and at the end of the day I always had more progress on the job than him. Rushing leads to repetitive motions, going over and over the same thing
I think in terms of pure beeswax, there are some differents but I'm no expert on that.... Usually on candles there is parafin wax which is different to my knowledge
Hmm not sure, Usually if there is CA glue then there is a crack or split, and hot liquid will find a way to expand that crack.... If really hot stuff will go in there find timber without defects
i donno how your math work but,you have to go get the wood, prepare the blank, turn the bowl the first time, wait for the drying process, turn the bowl once its dry enough,do the sanding, finish, you have to include the cost of the sanding paper you use,the finish product, the gaz for the wood prepare and the gaz you use in your car/truck to get that wood, the cost of electricity of your shop, the cost of the wood too, and the time you work on the piece..how do you make money at 25 dollars? this is why i dont sell my turning anymore..i give my work to friends and the rest is packed on box
It works for me, not everyone has a big standard that can afford to buy this size bowl for 100$ . When I rough turn bowls I rough them atleast 50 at time, everything is batched in few hours.... I can finish a lot of these in a day to sold them in batches.... So take this math, I don't and neither should you count drying time, so time invested in this bowl from blank to finish made is 17min, I bought entire log for 40 $ , got 300 bowls out of it. This smaller one is 25 and they go up to 80$ , so I can make good enough money and keep customers in line and wanting to buy my stuff beacuse I don't charge absurd ammout.... Cherry that I have cost more beacuse a log was way more, but still in cheery this bowl is affordable to most people.....
Thank you for sharjng Tomislav. I appreciate all your commentary as you are turning to explaining everthing.

Awsome story and you create more memories and something that she will be able to tell stories to her kids.... That is awsome....
Thanks for watching
Talk. Talk. Talk! It is beneficial. Thank you for the excellent demonstration.

Uff 39 is hot, I do hope winter will be good here so summer would be easier... we also get up to 40.... Hopefully soon you'll be back in shop
Great job, the way you returned it to the lathe was spot on, beautiful bowl.
Thank you very much 🤗

Really, thank you for kind words of support
Beautiful little bowl Tomislav.
Keep talking in your videos. It gives the viewer a better understanding of your thinking and process, and is very helpful.
Many of the bowls I made for my mother were ones with some sort of natural imperfections - those were her favorites.
Glad to hear that, I'm stiil due to make doug bowl for my mom....🤗 Thank you for watching
Good joob gays ❤❤❤
Along with many others, I much prefer to hear what you are thinking.
Thanks for that🤗
Great video, as always.

I use vicmark chucks, there is a few days old video , unboxing vicmark chucks...worth the watch🤗
Pardon me if you’ve already said, what kind of oil do you use? Thank you so much for your time and effort. You are an excellent teacher. God bless.
Thank you very much, there is a link in video description from the oil, this one is called woodturning oil, I think its linseed oil

Rushing and working fast in my mind are different things
Just curious if all bees wax is the same. Can you use bees wax candles for a finish?
I think in terms of pure beeswax, there are some differents but I'm no expert on that.... Usually on candles there is parafin wax which is different to my knowledge
Thanks
Please just keep talking ❤
Is-it Ok to use CA glue on a bowl for hot liquid?
Hmm not sure, Usually if there is CA glue then there is a crack or split, and hot liquid will find a way to expand that crack.... If really hot stuff will go in there find timber without defects
Do you sign production work?
Always, I usually sign it when packing.☺️
What a beautiful bowl. I was just going to ask what does the solid beeswax do? Great video as always.
Not much apart from polish and great base if you want to polish later through its life.... But has no protection but again feels super nice
That's why you're a professional wood Turner and I'm not 😅
Thank you,but its just practice🤗
Don’t dare stop the narrative, it is what separates you from the others by far. What type of oil and wax do you use on these?
No worries sir, I don't plan on stoping😀
Its pure beeswax and linseed oil
