  • In this video, I'll show you the new NOVO String library by Heavyocity. This is a good size library of sound (38 Gigabytes!) including Traditional Strings, Low and High Ensembles, A String Designer, and even a Loop Designer. I'll cover a fair bit of each section and some of my favorites, but we'll only scratch the surface of what NOVO Modern Strings has to offer. The modern string compositional tools can morph, punish, twist, and design string sounds into your own compositions to complement what's happening on screen.

    I've got a lot more Heavyocity tutorials in a playlist on my channel if you're interested. www.youtube.co....
    Affiliate links are used here, I receive a very small percentage and it helps support the channel. Very much appreciate it if you choose to use them. Hopefully, this video gives you an idea of the possibilities and inspires you in your work. Thank you for your kind words and thank you for watching!

    Excellent concise and quick review. I liked how you showed the emotional variations possible with the played strings. I think a little dynamics goes a long ways, so less is more with real time changes if emulating the natural sound of a real string section. I especially liked the violin section timbre.

    Is Heavyocity paying you? If not they should be because your tutorials have largely been the deciding factor for me picking up almost all of these libraries over the past year. Nice work.

      Thank you! They have sent me some newer libraries for review before, (this one in particular), however, there is a cool story behind that. Having made a lot of these reviews for fun, they reached out to me and we worked together to create overviews and tutorials for their channel too. So it has lead to opportunity and they have been supportive of the community which means a lot to me. They’re genuinely good people doing what they love and I think that’s super cool.

    An excellent review.... Thank you... Now I have a choice... This, or Spitfire Tundra V..... Novo seems more flexible, but Spitfire Tundra seems more realistic and sensitive, and has brass/woodwind... What a difficult choice! :-).... Superb video though!

    • @TobyRyan
      @TobyRyan  7 лет назад +1

      +Oxygen-61 that's a tough decision as both are great choices! Spitfire makes excellent strings. NOVO has different advantages up it's sleeve, especially if you're wanting to layer tonalities and create hybrid string sounds with the string designer. Consider your needs stylistically for the music you make, the different approaches to workflow and you'll make a good decision. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Toby amazing tutorial. I have a question. Being a newbie I find hard one thing. When I want to use a loop there is a certain key on it. In my song I may have another key. What are the best procedures to handle this. Is there a tutorial that can help me deal with this? Thanks and keep it up

    • @mistral-unizion-music

      Just change the red keys on the left octave range to suit your actual keys from your composition.

    What is the cpu usage like with NOVO?

    • @TobyRyan
      @TobyRyan  7 лет назад +2

      +Simon James CPU usage is pretty good, not really any different than other Kontakt instruments. It does depend on each persons hardware, but I'm using a 3.2 GHz intel i5 and have 6 Kontakt instruments loaded up at once and it's handling well. The memory usage is pretty good too as NOVO has some samples purged by default and allow for extra purging of sections you don't need. Again, that depends on each persons memory installment, but I've found when working with Kontakt that anywhere from 16-32GB is ideal, 8 isn't horrible, but often fills up faster since the DAW is also needing room. Definitely check the "Tech Specs" tab on Heavyocity's webpage for minimum requirements. Thanks for watching!

    What midi controller are you using in this video?

    • @TobyRyan
      @TobyRyan  5 лет назад +2

      It’s an M-Audio Keystation Pro 88. It was my first keyboard. I loved it for the full range of weighted keys and midi fader controls until one of the keys broke and started disengaging every time I needed to play. Made me sad to replace.

    why does everything sit on the right speaker in this library? I have to pan everything to the left 50% just to get it centered.

    • @TobyRyan
      @TobyRyan  7 лет назад +1

      +Richard Spillers that's odd and definitely not normal. Try looking in your DAW's automation lanes on each track that has NOVO to make sure there's not anything automating the pan. Have you tried opening the same instrument in Kontakt Standalone app? If the instrument is the same there that will be a good test to see if it's specific to NOVO or the DAW. Check other Kontakt instruments in the same instance of Kontakt to see if they're panning left. It's also a good idea to look into systems settings, DAW Preferences/Settings and audio interface settings to rule all of those out too. Lastly, if the issue is specific to NOVO in both your DAW and Kontakt standalone app, I would either re-install NOVO and/or contact Heavyocity support. Thanks for watching!
